      @@IronFudge123 It's nice when you manage to pull off a ship that looks decent but actually hits hard despite that. I know I've got a few light ships that used APHE railguns (Unfortunately outdated nowadays), and I really enjoyed rolling them out to fight against the opposing craft.
      They were really good at killing turrets and the like, so you often got to see turret detonations, but they actually looked like ships and used absolutely no cheesy mechanics like up-props or dedi-blades to beat down opponents and stay afloat. Counter flooding was incredibly fun to work out the mechanics of, as was setting up the whole ship with redundant buoyancy without having it bob around like a cork.

    Thanks for spotlighting my little boat here!
    The shell design probably isn't the best no. I don't know much about good shell design so I kinda just throw on something basic that works okay.
    Regarding the engine; as another commenter said, it's just one I threw together for the boat without much thought. Radiators no longer have a downside, they just reduce the heat of the engine meaning better ppm so I just plopped a bunch on in the space I could.
    I only tested it against the DWG and SS so that's why the laser and EMP protection is so awful. I'll probably look to improve that, so thanks for highlighting it.

      I currently have a real problem with getting back into FTD because I want to build nice looking stuff like I have done in the past, but I'm setting a high mountain for myself to climb right from the start which isn't very smart. I just can't bring myself to build a functional, floating, box - even if it does wreck face. I'd have to relearn how to build something good and vaguely good looking, and it'd take so long that I know I won't end up finishing it :(

    A interesting thing with engines especially injector engines is that the lower the temp that the cylinders run at, the more efficient they will be for PPM, so essentially the more radiators that you put on a engine the more efficient it will be.

  • @Skinz01

    That thing that stands out to me about that engine is that it runs really cool. I imagine the IR signature of the boat is really small.

  • @SuwinTzi

    In case no one commented, but heat drops piston power more than anything now, so radiators are now viable and recommended to keep your power and fuel efficiency higher.

    If you remember "Scott's Engine Platform," you can take one of his "best 5x5 turbo" engines, cut it in half (just delete all the blocks above the crankshaft) then reconnect everything so the turbos all work properly, you get n engine with I think 676 power/material and quite good performance. If you run it properly (optimize for bursts, meaning you want more engine than you need and request power in bursts, aka railguns and particle cannons and the like) you should get full use of that 670+ efficiency. (Turbos, if you remember, are more efficient the higher their rpm.)
    You can contrast this with supercharged engines, which should run lower, but you still want to build for overperformance so that they can run at much lower rpm. (I might recommend 0.3-0.4 rpm limit if you want a guess.) This will get you at 700-1000+ power/material, but with higher upfront costs.

  • @fauxbooz4286

    600 PPM is pretty good, the engine also runs very cool so maybe it's to reduce IR signature?

    Stone is pretty much worthless for EMP defense, even a single EMP warhead on a medium missile will deal nearly full damage after 2 m of stone.
    Sure, once in a while a stone layer can cause the EMP to path to a different target, but you really don't want to rely on that for anything vital.

    • @BorderWise12
      @BorderWise12  3 роки тому

      It works very well when used in a 'faraday cage' setup. EMP takes the path of least resistance, so if it hits alloy or metal it'll often ignore stone and wood completely.

    • @asrieldreemurr5029

      @@BorderWise12 EMP doesn't hit alloy or metal, that's the issue: it flows through them without being dampened at all.

      @@asrieldreemurr5029 Not what I was saying, but testing proves you right. Stone on in its own isn't enough, I guess. Especially for small builds.
      Edit: I was absolutely right about the Faraday Cage effect: EMP needs to really close to a stone compartment to get through it. Stone AI compartments still work. 👍

      @@asrieldreemurr5029 alloy and metal does weaken emp, i have tested huge emp missiles against a thick ship of mine and it did 0 damage, since the armour is so thick it couldnt reach anything to damage

    • @asrieldreemurr5029
      @asrieldreemurr5029 3 роки тому

      @@BorderWise12 Stone cage can work when you have more palatable targets outside of it, for example surge protectors or heavy armor, but it's still less than reliable compared to an HA cage: all it takes is 250ish damage that wants to slip through and your mainframe gets fried.
      Amusingly enough, spaced armor is a strong defense as EMP has to path around it as it can't jump through the air, so then you can place a bit of stone and a few surge protectors at key points because you know all EMP damage will have to travel through them.
       @The Gaming Cat that's because EMP pathing stops after a certain amount of blocks, you can test by putting an HA block behind an increasingly thick layer of metal and you'll see the damage remain the same until it drops to 0 abruptly.
      You can also look at EmpNode in the game code to see the details of how it paths.
