  • Here is my run down of why I believe Sitka is pushing Subalpine towards the Whitetail Hunters. I reference this article below in the video.

So many compound youtubers are talking about Sitka, I shoot traditional and went for Subalpine because of the shorter range 30 yards max. Sitka say Subalpine is better for close range so that's my reason.

To me it makes sense to get ur early season stuff in subalpine, so you can also use it for turkey season.

Honestly wishing I would’ve ordered the equinox guard hoodie and equinox guard pants in subalpine. I agree that early season subalpine fits better especially here in the south when everything is still green.

I've been pestering Sitka to make quiet products like stratus suit in subalpine several times. Finally last year they replied to wait for new releases. Bottom line, against the sky, you're a silhouette even if you wore shining white blanket. Meanwhile on the ground Elevated II shines like glow stick in any other conditions but snowy forest. I have the Fanatic suit for late season and there the Elevated II is perfect, tree, ground, there's usually snow when it's that cold. For anything lighter than that, I want the versatility of Subalpine camo, because I use the "mid season weight" for lot of other things but tree stand hunting, and the subalpine isn't really any worse for tree stand.

Definitely will be using the subalpine more. I hunt in south Louisiana and west Texas whitetail. Leave stay on the trees we’ll into December most years here in Louisiana. The pattern just mixes much better in the environments of the south. I’ve had the EV 2 stratus and I just look like a huge cotton ball and stick out in the woods. Subalpine was a great release for the southern white tail hunters.

I think a lot of people will be giving Subalpine a chance this fall.

I as well hunt south Mississippi/Louisiana and just made huge haul and intend to use the subalpine for both duck and deer. Expecting it to perform well!

I’ve been using subalpine for the past few years for the majority of archery season here in WV. It blends so much better!

I see more of a grey in the E2 line vs a blue. I do think the Subalpine camo looks better in the south. I think late season up north with snow the EV2 is better camo.

Great video- I was interested to hear someone’s take on this. I personally don’t wear Sitka for whitetail because I have always thought the EV2 pattern was too “blue/gray”. If they had offered subalpine whitetail gear a couple years ago I might would have gone that route.

I have the Sitka Thunderhead rain gear in Subalpine. I have used it here in NW Florida during the late season hunting out of pines and it blends in great. I would say the pattern is just another tool in the box to be used at the right time in the right scenario. If we really get down to the core of it camo is mostly for the hunter. I have killed a pile of deer in a pair of tan jeans and an ASAT T-shirt.

I have zero issues killing deer using elevated 2 in early whitetail season.
After spending $5K-$6K on all my Sitka gear the last thing I’m gonna do is change it up and buy sub alpine now.

Interesting video. Sitka had me confused about introducing it into the whitetail line. They marketed the heck out of EV2 being the do all pattern for whitetail stand hunting. I’ve always liked how Sitka backed their patterns with a “scientific explanation” which it seems they’re getting away from. The article was a good read. I personally think it has to do with revenue. It’s like what happened with timber (which I love) being made to pretty much sell more gear. You can check out the Rodgers waterfowl podcast Sitka episode to see what I’m talking about. It seemed like Sitka had plans for marsh to be a do it all pattern as well, but guys who hunted in heavy timber thought marsh wouldn’t work and Sitka then made timber to sell more of their waterfowl gear. I do love sitka gear for its performance out in the elements and that’s the main reason I buy it and will continue to buy it. The article did mention macro patterns being better compared to micro patterns , and I wonder if Kuiu’s patterns would be better for deer? Just a thought. Loved the video

I'm buying Subalpine for early, just because it's cool. Thanks.

Yup.. I want to blend in with my surroundings as ill sometimes hunt from the ground and that EV2 sticks out like a sore thumb early season.
