I like how Janis' voice over is settling into a more natural sound as he is getting used to the role of being the main host/character on the episode. I'm loving all this youtube content with Janis and Cal and the more peripheral crew.
My father introduced me to hunting in a local public land forest when I was 10 or 11. We still hunt together in the same block. There's no place I would rather be... The sentiments in this video hit hard. Fantastic content!
This video speaks to me so closely. As someone who grew up hunting north-central Wisconsin, we now have a cabin on just 10 acres, but surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of public land. I relate to the MeatEater team so closely that the invitation is open to join our deer camp any time. God bless.
Fantastic episode! The moments we get spending what we love to do with those we love is what life is all about, this episode captured that beautifully. Well done.
Pumped to see Janis using a saddle! I'm giving it a try this year myself. We had 80 degrees the afternoon before the MN firearm opener last year and I sat bow hunting in it, tough conditions to deal with. But I love too that this episode captures what hunting means to a lot of us northern whitetail hunters - not the arduous pursuit of game across vast expanses of the West, but of the pleasure of hunting with friends and family on a small patch of familiar ground.
I’m with you here. I get to hunt with my brother and uncle in my parent’s land in MN. It’s a small strip of land but we have success every year. That last opening forearm weekend was crazy warm. First time we had to work super fast to butcher the deer since it was 70 degrees!
My grandmother was from Latvia. I wish I had asked/learned more about Latvian culture when she was alive. I perk up any time I see or hear someone speaking Latvian. Janis and Papa Janis are the best!
I want to find a Latvian bakery & buy me some of those bacon perogi's. Truly enjoyed this episode, takes me way back to my hunting roots. My family emigrated from Eastern Europe as well, they used to do the shot of whiskey thing, & also put a little branch with leaves in the bucks mouth after the kill. The old generation in my family has passed, was nice to see Papa Janis enjoying the woods.
Great episode from a fellow South Western Wisconsin hunter. Interesting to hear the discussion about the warm weather last fall. It's been worse this rut with even warmer temps the last three weeks.
I grew up in Wisconsin and these accents get me every time. “Oh eh ya know I was out on open’n day there, big ol white tail came prancin out of the thicket, real beaut” But you vacation in northern wisco, hunt central and eastern. Going to do give my try at bow hunting this year. I love this content
I loved this video. I remember all the guys getting ready to go to camp and not being able to go. Until one year when I was 12, I talked my dad into taking me out bow hunting. I killed my first buck that sit. I was able to join hunting camp that year and every year after. It was the week I counted down to every year. I learned so much each year, still do to this day.
Hunting used to be more about the people. Now it's more about the deer. Pretty good job capturing that. We've reached a true crossroads when it comes to ego. I like to think we humans learn from our mistakes and as hunters navigating todays circumstances we've made some. Humanity is super complicated.
skip the limb cutting and you might see a deer while you set up...use the tether to keep yourself attached to the tree while you move your linemans belt over the limb.
My dad used to tell me....." A bad day hunting is better than a good day at work." Hard to argue with that. My grandfather took me on my first hunt. I was maybe 5 years old. I couldn't keep up so he carried me on his shoulders. The dogs put a big bear up a tree and they shot him. He fell into a fork in the tree about 20 feet up in the tree. I remember standing next to the tree looking into the bears eyes and the blood dripping from his mouth hit the tree trunk just above ny head sprinkling blood on my face. I've had a special place in my heart for bears ever since.
This is a great video! Around 6:30 he talks about the climbing pack. Anyone have a clue what that is? I can't make out what he says and google searching hasn't come up with anything. I'm interested!!!
Love the vidz but just gotta couple questions.... 1) If you went hunting with your Dad, why split up? 2) When setting up in a perch position in a tree, isn't the wind direction a consideration to be taken into account or does it NOT matter?🤔 Plz keep these vidz comin. Peace ✌😎
Enjoy your parents/father while you still have them because in the blink of an eye they will be gone. I lost my dad in 2017 and think about him every single day miss him dearly. He watched me in my younger years grow into a great bowhunter which was around the time when compound bows transitioned from old style round cams to the faster, harder shooting, hatchet cam bows that finally broke the threshold of a 300 fps compound. I was around 25 yrs young when this revolution happened and I literally slaughtered them like shooting fish in a barrel. My dad got to bear witness to some of the most amazing shots on deer with a bow that he had ever seen. Comments like "My God son how did you do that?" After a shot on a big doe crossing the field at 70+ yards from my tree stand in an open field edge. She went less than 50 yards and piled up no tracking required. I will be 53 in November and I have now resorted to using a crossbow during bow season as I can barely draw a 60# compound bow and can't hold it at full draw for more than a minute.
I like how Janis' voice over is settling into a more natural sound as he is getting used to the role of being the main host/character on the episode. I'm loving all this youtube content with Janis and Cal and the more peripheral crew.
I think he is a producer as well. So host/hunter/ producer
Yes! Papa Janis's wisdom is always welcome! Keep it coming!
Janis's "special top secret" assignments are the best keep it up! :)
That’s the best part of these series, knowing the history and biography of these hosts. Bring on more!👍🏼👍🏼🤙🏼
Papa Janis is a great human being who has raised some great kids. So happy to see him in another video.
Papa Janis is my favorite! He gives me a look inside as to what I strive to be as a hunter as well as a father!
I enjoy these videos with Janis more than the Netflix episodes! Please keep them coming
Episodes with family just hit different. Love the episodes that truly capture the reasons most hunters take to the woods.
I grew up hunting central Wisconsin with my dad and his buddies and brothers. I was the only son that liked it. Love those memories.
My father introduced me to hunting in a local public land forest when I was 10 or 11. We still hunt together in the same block. There's no place I would rather be... The sentiments in this video hit hard. Fantastic content!
Not only do I love meat eater but love watching Janis also, great video man
Agreed Steve and/or Janis content is great to watch. Please keep it coming.
This brings back so many memories from growing up in deer camp with my grandpa and my dad. Great episode, one of the best yet!

I really enjoy any time Papa Janis is in an episode. You see where Janis Jr gets his positive demeanor.
Always love the wisconsin episodes a little more than the rest!
Such a heartwarming video and absolutely fantastic editing and score, very well done.

Loving this content meat eater crew brings some real nostalgia and so cool to see all the mentors
Putting these videos at the top of my feed right away is pretty much he only thing the UA-cam algorythm gets right.
I love the humor and wisdom of the "old man." I recommend more of this, as possible. Good show...enjoyed it.
HOOLY CRUD! AMAZING episode…listening to Papa Janis talk about his son in the beginning brought tears to my eyes
My grandmother was from Latvia. I wish I had asked/learned more about Latvian culture when she was alive. I perk up any time I see or hear someone speaking Latvian. Janis and Papa Janis are the best!

Thanks for the great content you are putting out. Keep em' coming.
Great episode from a fellow South Western Wisconsin hunter. Interesting to hear the discussion about the warm weather last fall. It's been worse this rut with even warmer temps the last three weeks.
These are moments I never got the opportunity to share with my dad that I hope to one day share with my son
Great video. Love Poppa Janis.............

Great video evolution of mentor and hunter where the hunter becomes somewhat of a mentor.

Thats exactly what I'm hoping, for my boys to be like me but better
Great job! Really enjoyed the spirit of this episode. Watching folks not fill their tag is encouraging to me. Makes me want to stay out there longer.
I loved this video. I remember all the guys getting ready to go to camp and not being able to go. Until one year when I was 12, I talked my dad into taking me out bow hunting. Papa Janis just makes me happy :)))))
Rich Evans should have been a special guest in this episode, his star power would have given you guys hundreds of millions of views.

People in Wisconsin are the nicest.

Great episode!
Yo, I just saw you on Joe Rogan. Keep up the good work 👍
I loved this!
What is the pack setup and sticks @ (05:06)? Looks well organized and secure.
Stone glacier w Timber ninjas
Very cool video man you couldn't pay me to stay in a treestand like that I need comfort while waiting for deer
The
"Bump and dump" sounds like a nocturnal activity in the bed room,
More than a hunting technique. 😂Hahahaha
Nem todas as caçadas ti da a certeza de que você vai abater o animal, paciência 👍👍👍
Love the vidz but just gotta couple questions.... 1) If you went hunting with your Dad, why split up? 2) When setting up in a perch position in a tree, isn't the wind direction a consideration to be taken into account or does it NOT matter?🤔 Plz keep these vidz comin. Peace ✌😎
I am not a hunter, but the camerawork is awesome!
What setup is Janis using? I couldn’t hear him clearly enough to look it up.
A 'tree saddle'
I can't find any links or more info about the tree sap stand used in the video. Any help is welcomed.
keep doing it,,Guys
Anyone know what climbing sticks those are?
In estonian pirags are called pirukad. Also filled with onions and ground beef or veg. But bacon is a much better filling
What kind or brand of saddle were ya using in this video and what sticks?
Believe he was in a Tethrd saddle. His sticks are Timber Ninja C1s. Check them out at www.timberninjaoutdoors.com
@@tylerross9094 Thank you!!
Any idea on the pack?
Found it, I think
