Snake Island Hog Deer Hunt - Australia

- I was fortunate to get drawn in the Snake Island Hog Deer Ballot for the 2024 hunting season. It was an awesome hunt and due to the nature of the lottery, potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity. Got even luckier and managed to fill both tags!
This video has highlights from my 5 day backpack hunt on an island off the Southern shores of Australia. Beautiful scenery down in Prom country. Worth the visit to Port Welshpool, Victoria just for the views but the fishing is also fantastic.
I hope future ballot hunters are able to pick up a couple tips from this video. The most important part, as with any hunt, is preparation! Getting on/off the island is definitely the most challenging aspect of the trip. Hog deer are hard to find and if you do happen to get your eyes on one, you'll need a solid plan and awareness of the tides/weather before you pull the trigger or fling an arrow to successfully preserve the meat and cape from your harvest.
Thanks to the Blond Bay Hog Deer Advisory Group for organizing the ballot!

It’s fantastic to see the fruits of a successful hog deer ballot hunt. All the hard work payed off due to your preparation and planning.Well done and congratulations. Thanks for sharing your hunt.
Appreciate the feedback! Put a lot of miles and time into scouting, even spent my Christmas Eve on the island! Definitely a hunt and species that pre scouting is critical for.
That was super suspenseful!! Very real and relatable
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I can't believe you got a stag AND a hind!! that footage of the hind shot is rad
Right?!
The stag snuck up on me a bit so unfortunately didn't get footage of that shot but luckily got the second one on film
@@UpNorthDownUnder nice! yeah it's great footage
Congratulations on bagging out. Hoggies are incredibly hard to hunt.
I used to live in the area but only saw stags out of season 😢. Did find a 15 1/4" cast antler though 👍🏻.
Thanks! For sure a tough animal to hunt. Rarely see them during daylight hours on the mainland. That's a giant shed! Hopefully he is still cruising around.
that's a CRAZY hunting story from start to finish!! I didn't see that ending coming AT ALL. wild
Lol totally agree
Dave didn't see that ending coming either 😀
