But he will come around, and his being hard headed at his age, he aint never gonna change that, besides, his hard headedness got him where he is, paradise with a beautiful woman waaaaaaaaaaaay out of his league. Alfred's health condition is about reduced mobility -- as in hip and perhaps knee joints. He is not sick.

In my understanding he doesn’t care about permanent residence. He is content with just visa, being 3 people trying to convince him makes him feel pressure and make him doubts to do things. I would feel the same way. Let him just stay using his visa, if he doesn’t want to become a permanent resident then let him be. He also said his wife doesn’t need to be with him that respond he felt pressure.

The reality is, permanent residence makes sense.
On a visitors visa you are required to renew several times a year equivalent to every two months at a cost of several thousand pesos plus travel time and expenses. Travel is hard for Alfred due to his weakness in the legs. From his home it would be an all day thing maybe even an overnight hotel stay and this is every two months. Permanent Residence requires just one appearance per twelve months with a cost of just p300, yes three hundred pesos!
He wants the permanent residence. The only disagreement is about WHEN!
The Filipina viewpoint is based on experience of needing plenty of time allowed for anything going wrong. Beth recommends playing safe and doing it sooner than later.😁

Yes it makes sense but not to Alred. He is very stubborn he says he has already paid until next year. Filing the forms like you suggest according to his logic is like he getting double charged. In his viewpoint he thinks he is being scammed. OMG poor Marie. She is trying her best to help him but he won't listen. just let him keep renewing his visa if that is how he feels comfortable. We have been there too. Some of these foreigners have no patience. They always compared that their place is much better when processing things.

Or at minimum some good German speaking agency.
Because at his age and mental stage, it will be hard with such important understanding of processes in english.
He needs it in German, to easier grasp things.
And he is used to German public services.
But in ph, what they say and what actually can expect is often not in sync.
So always add extra buffer.

I know the process about securing a 13a visa, been there done that, even if he speaks English, his mother tongue is German and he probably would understand better, but he's a grumpy old man who will find out the hard way if he doesn't have those papers filled out correctly, feel sorry for the Asawa,she has a ton of patience🤔
We should show a little patience. His reluctance to act is understandable. The process so far has been very difficult. The German government are not easy to deal with. They insist, of course, on all paperwork being in German which means having everything translated into German and notarized and then translated back into English for the Philippines. This is only part of the complicated process he has been going through for some time now.

It's true that finances do play a major role in why foreigners retire here but meeting a Filipina and having another chance at life is equally as big a reason.

He thinks that MAY is when he needs to fix things. Bc it expires in aug.
And maybe the paper says that.
But ph is VERY unreliabile in many things.
So any bigger paperwork should be started many months in advanced in ph.
And you never know if they suddenly ask for some EXTRA paperwork.. that jeeds to be legalized etc.
Legalizing of papers can take months to fix.

In the Philippines where nothing is predictable why would you wait when it can be done now?
Correct if he'll process his Tourist visa but not correct now because the paperwork is about securing a Permanent Residence Visa for him - so that he can have the option to stay in the Philippines forever instead of another Tourist Visa that requires him to go out of the country after a time frame and then come back again. He's no longer strong enough to satisfy the requirements of a Tourist Visa.
He's a very lucky man to have Marie

Renewing a tourist visa takes time and money in visa fees and travel -- several hours driving -- several times in the year.
Alfred is not physically fit as you can see. The wisdom of being resident is obvious -- just one trip to immigration every twelve months with a fee of only p300+ as opposed to thousands of pesos and physical stress. Personally it doesn't matter to me either way we are just trying to help.

It may have increased now, but when I applied it cost me p11k at the interview stage and ty three months later p9k when I picked up my card, we did the paperwork ourselves -- it wasn't difficult. Now I have to appear once a year at a cost of p300.

It's more about quality of life. Smoking carries a greater risk of a stroke so while you may live a long life it may include the need for someone to feed you, bathe you and change your diaper.
