I love this channel. I would love to know, out of all the German marques that you work on is there any specific one that gives least trouble? Over 30 years I’ve owned Mercs, Audis, BMWs, Porsches and VWs. For me Mercs were in the shop more than any other.
"Joe's Plumbing, Bakery, and BMW Repair, how may I help you?" I am at a loss to understand a shop that has the resources to repair a broken wastegate, but can't or won't change O-rings on an oil supply line.
“It’s good enough as is” mentality, probably. And if something happens down the road - sorry, you’re out of warranty, but we’re happy to work on your car at our shop’s rates.
You should do a video on regular annual maintenance needed for the BMW i3. I just bought one but I have no idea what to do to keep it properly maintained.
Rich Rebuilds just bought a v10 m5 that makes a tapping sound when running.. Wonder if you can identify the noise for him. 11:52 timestamp "I bought an “easy fix” V10 BMW M5 from Facebook marketplace, here’s how stupid I was"
WHY is a 2019 anything in your shop needing replacement parts?? BMWs have 4 year/50K warranty; if I had a BMW just a few months or few thousand miles past warranty needing new parts I'd be pissed.
You make it sound like another shop ,mess up on the repair, How do we know if maybe the customer didn't tell the shop not to replace the lines ? The repair the shop did is still working, your not repairing what they fix and it's been over 2 years
The a4 ive brought in to you a couple times decided that the steering rack wanted to take a dump and it puking fluid out the tie rod boots idk why they didn't make the seals replaceable i dont wanna buy a whole new rack ugh lol its a $300 part and whole lot of cussing
BMWs aren't that special to me, they are over engineered and the computer systems makes them harder to work on. Some car companies are bad about making things over complicated. I steer clear of those car companies, the cars lose a lot of value after they get some mileage.
I don't about you i live in newyork and i find it crazy the amount of german cars you work on i work on them too the problem is the people that bring in their European cars to be worked on can't afford the repairs soo why purchase the car in the beginning and ofcourse ita the usual demographic of people that keep thaf stereotype
You should name the shop if they do bad work no one should give them any business all there going to do is do it to another customer I'm all for a mechanic shop going out of business what do you care more business for your shop
Correct. And mine's a 535xi. I did this same job working around a driveshaft. No fun. The process was: turbos out, upper coolant and oil lines connected to the block BEFORE reinstalling the turbos, then all the remaining connections to the turbos. It's very tedious
Thank you for this channel and all the hard work you’ve put into it. I’ve just purchased a 2014 S5 and I would love to ship it to you to give it a a look over.
I blew the coolant line off of my e60 535xi a year ago, that repair bill was nasty. In hindsight I should have coughed up more money and had the turbos replaced too. The major part of the cost was the labor to get to the turbos on the awd models, lowering the subframe and whatnot. Still love my car, plan to drive it forever! 175,000 miles strong!!
I've become a subscriber (few years ago), so how do I become a friend? ;) (I have two non German cars that would want you to work on them when needed!)
So far these have been pretty reliable, I haven't seen any major oil leaks, a few minor coolant leaks I have seen. Did have a 2019 X5 40i with 129K on it that had a coolant leak from the water pump tube leading to the block but wasn't that hard of a fix. I don't own one myself but I do work on a lot of them.
I bought a brake clean can only to find out it was as cheap, if not cheaper, to buy the aerosol vs a bulk brake clean. If anyone has any different experience as a DIYer please let me know. Thanks.
Here in Orstraya, it is much cheaper to buy 20 Litre drums of brake clean. The auto stores sell spray degreaser, but even that is not the same as proper brake clean. Of course you have to factor in the spray can for AUD110 but this amortises over time.
@@oiygfdxssfgg Yes. Champion must have given BMW a good deal, to be used as the OEM supplier. If it were me, I would install NGK, or perhaps Bosch or Denso instead.
@@forzaferrari9912 Yeah, looked like two downpipes as well under there. But kinda hard to tell, as well as I never quite got a grip which chassis switched to N55 when. Like my E82 was shipped with N54 and 6 speed auto, then there's a short run with N54 DCT during the LCI production before they switched to N55 DCT. I have a manual of course. 😁
@@forzaferrari9912 Ikr? But DCT is listed from LCI onwards, (late 2008) but if I'm not mistaken the N55 appeared in 2011 (late 2010 production). I dunno. 😅

You live in America, and come from a foreign country, working on an American vehicle shouldn't be an issue. I don't care what's in the shop, i just like watching car's being fixed. This channel would probably grow with longer video's that show more detail because you upload so far apart. I really like Jonny, but i don't feel like he really enjoys making video's, which i wouldn't like doing them either. Jonny, you just have something about you that people like, and not everyone has that making video's. G-d bless, and thanks for the video.
Ask yourself, are BMW famous for making turbo 4 pots? N20 has all the usual reliability issues of the era, plus timing chain, without really being worth it. If you are set on one... watch for stupid long oil service intervals, that has rekt pretty much every BMW model in the last 20 years, and cheap models were rarely owned by people willing to ignore 20k,25k,30k oil change indicator stupidity, and pay for more frequent servicing

Not replacing O rings? Stupidity or laziness or both or basically reused oil cooler lines when replacing turbo

Is BMW using Champion spark plugs because they are a good brand, or because they are a cheap brand and it saves them money?
Champion typically was/is used on Chryslers. I’m sure it’s made to bmw tolerance. But it’s a strange brand to be seen on a German car for sure.
