You have a very "winsome" aura about you and deserve more subs. I'm a new one. 😀 I got the SSS version of this in "chocolate burst" a few months back and it's my favorite guitar now. That thing just sings like no guitar I've ever played. Nice video.
I just got the white SSS version of this guitar, today. It's my second Made in Japan Fender and my 3rd Japanese guitar in total. I also have an Ibanez prestige RG. I prefer all 3 to the core model PRS Custom 22 I had in 2005. I think that guitar would cost more than all 3 combined, if I were to buy one now.
I bought the California blue sss strat couple weeks ago , awesome guitar . I can’t find a single flaw on it . I was so impressed I went back to the store and bought the dolphin grey telecaster as well . Love Japanese guitars .
Nice! I was considering getting a dolphin grey Tele to match my dolphin grey Strat, but they only offer a maple board in grey. If it were rosewood I'd probably get it. But I agree, these Japanese Aerodynes are great guitars. Congrats and thanks for watching!
update!!! Reverb has the Fender Aerodyne special strats from japan in dolphin metallic gray for 600 bucks new!!! I'm not kidding. The seller has bought them up and they are being sold four hundred bucks less than a month ago. I just bought one thanks to your video!!! Not my birthday but at first i'm like, wait a minute i have a japanese made strat which has a nicer neck than my sons american one and these are made there so what the heck? They won't last at that price. Everything has gone up, food, gas, housing, fools in D.C. caused it and now we can get quality guitars at a great price! Trying to focus on the positive. Cheers! tom.
Great deal but correction, they're not new. They're refurbished, No Fender warranty. But still a great deal if looking and don't mind a few surface scratches . Looks like all have gig bag too.
I'm super tempted to pick one up from them, how would you say the aeordynes sound compared to regular strats? My fear is that it's not very similar and we're essentially getting a high quality "super strat" from fender; which wouldn't be a bad thing, if I didn't already have 3 guitars 😅 If I can have this as my only stratocaster then I'll be pretty happy with it but thats assuming they sound v similar.
What a nice looking guitar. Great B day present! I had a 1984 Tokai Love Rock LP made in Japan. It was great guitar that I ending up trading in on the Gibson version. I actually wish I had the Love Rock back. It was a better guitar. Live and learn.
fantastic guitars...I bought the HSS and a tele during that last sale a couple months back and liked them so much I bought the HSS a couple days ago brand new for 799....I am planning pickup swaps though
I LOVE BABICZ! I have the saddles on all four of my strats.. l have them on my "tune-o-matic" guitars as well.. being 3 Gibsons! I think they are very smooth and highly adjustable, chrome is excellent.. it's simply a real modern design to replace a 50 plus year old design, smooth on your palm, l give them a 10 PLUS!! Thanks for your vid! I bought the chocolate brown burst Areo.. it's light, plays and sounds excellent.. it is near perfect but something l can't put my finger on feels cheap.. maybe it's lighter than most of mine.. lm glad l wanted an old first run Areo..l am glad l waited. Look.. BASSWOOD was what EDDIE VAN HALEN used.. and he ROCKED THE WORLD with BASSWOOD. If it was good enough for Eddie who are we mortals to question BASSWOOD? l say if it ROCKS.. let it ROLL!
Wow, you DO like Babicz! So far I’m digging it on the Aerodyne. Still getting used to the raised part of the saddles not being flush with the strings but I do like how smooth it feels on my right hand. It does seem to facilitate more tone and sustain. Totally agree with you that it’s time to move on from something invented in the 50’s. My Aerodyne isn’t all that light, I wish it were lighter. I was surprised about that seeing that it’s basswood. And yes, I agree, if basswood is good enough for Eddie…! Thanks for watching and for your comments! Much appreciated. Rock on!
Hi Great review. And Happy Birthday! Very interesting about the pole pieces, never heard that before. I'll have to take a closer look at one of these Japanese guitars. Regards.
Good morning, great guitar. I got lucky, I bought one on reverb brand new for, $599.00/640.93 out the door from Franklin Guitar Works. Not sure when the sale ends, but they are still on sale today,11/13/2023. I never recived a guitar that had spot on intonation except on guitars over $2000. i definitely recommend this guitar for younger people to explore. Thanks for your review Ray!!

Hard to say how it would compare to your other guitars. To me the main difference with the aerodynes is the absence of a pickguard, so the pickups are screwed right to the body. To me this changes a fundamental aspect of the Strat that I believe contributes to a classic Strat tone. IMHO I like the pickups mounted to the body, it seems to be a bit fuller, or could just be placebo.
@RayPlaysGuitar thanks for your input! I ended up pulling the trigger and I absolutely love it. I will have to do some digging about comparison between it and a classic strat on my next trip to GC, but the note about sounding fuller is spot on. The craftsmanship on it I'm sure will edge out any player series as well so price wise I'm sure I've made out big!
I have the exact same guitar...a fantastic Strat. MIJ Fender guitars are some of the best values out there. For a reasonable price, you get a very high quality guitar (on par or better than Made in USA) and they have much more interesting design quirks. I have 3 MIJ Fenders and they are all stellar. With the new Vintera II and the solid MIJ guitars, the USA factory better step up it's game. Ensenada and Japan are kicking their ass right now.
I agree Daniel! MIJ Fenders are probably the best bang for your buck as far as Fender goes. The Vintera II's look sweet, one of those might be my next Fender! Thanks for watching - Rock Onward!
Basswood is alleged to be a slightly warmer wood. Somewhere between Mahogany and Alder. My only knock against it is that it’s a little more susceptible to dints or dings.
Thanks for commenting on the basswood! Was about to quit out the video until I heard you talking about it. Which is what I’m researching hahah. Do you think basswood will age just like any other wood? I.e mahogany. People say there’s a sound difference but iono if hats just for people with hood hearing
There is a long standing debate on how much the wood affects the overall tone in an electric guitar. With acoustic guitars you can easily hear tonal differences among different woods. With electric guitars the difference between woods seems to narrow dramatically once pickups and amps are involved, and when recording the differences become negligible to most ears. But to me the type of wood isn't just about the tone but about how the entire guitar behaves, how the strings resonate and how well notes sustain. With all that said, basswood is a perfectly fine wood for electric guitars. I believe the entire EVH line of guitars are made of basswood, including the Wolfgang USA EVH Signature model which retails at $4,500.00. Last night I was sitting on the couch playing my Aerodyne and noticed how much I can feel the guitar vibrating against my body. The only thing that would make basswood better for guitars is if they changed the name to guitarwood. 🤣🤣🤣
I noticed on my Aerodyne that the output jack has a shallower angle than my Squier Strat. Not sure if the regular Fender Strats are like my Squier or like the Aerodyne but wanted to pint out the difference.
I have the first year strat model, just wish the neck was a 9.5+, guess I could fret it and change it but meh, maybe a different neck? the decal is so easy, lil gloss black.. BOOM! too bad the colors are limited on that model .. . should be alder
Was looking for a made in Japan Tele 60's custom...I had one almost 40 years ago I should have kept along with a Fender Japan Trans Grey semi hollowbody .... I think if I'd have been a better player then I would have known what I had....
I want one of these for all the reasons you mentioned, but mostly for the 1.69" nut width. I prefer a wider neck than is found on Strats (both real ones and copies). How do you like the neck feel?
about basswood. It's not about good or bad. It's about the tone. Basswood is very balanced across the board, might be perceived as boring. Mahogany is midrange nasal and you can riff on it. Alder is snappy, open, higher treble etc... Basswood is a normie wood, that's the so called "issue"
So, it’s only an issue if you play unplugged or if you listen with your eyes. Got it. The tonewood myth has been debunked more times than either of us could count. In electric guitars, the vast majority of the tone is from mic placement and the speaker. In terms of raw output, the sound is almost entirely in the pickups and electronics, guitarists love wasting money though, so the tonewood debate isn’t much of a surprise. Seriously, unless it’s an acoustic, if you’re buying a guitar based on the wood because you think that effects tone, you’re VERY susceptible to marketing. If you truly think the wood changes the tone, watch the Jim Lill video on the subject or do an objective A/B test, you will be sorely disappointed in yourself like I was when I fell for that marketing bs.
@@watersnortmoment3734 I am happy to disagree. There is world for everyone. Without being a wise-ass, I can actually identify a mahogany guitar vs an alder or ash guitar with my eyes closed, A/B/C testing, etc.
@bogdanniculescu4941 Alright, have fun with your placebo effect lmao. If it’s for feel and the feel makes you think it sounds better that makes sense. Otherwise, you’ve genuinely just fallen for marketing. You can believe what you want, but buyer’s remorse is a guaranteed way to create cognitive dissonance.
@@bogdanniculescu4941 Did these guitars all have the exact same pickups in them. I'm not talking about the same model either because the same model of pickups can have slight variation. So did you wire the same set of pickups in each guitar? I'm will to bet you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if that was the case. I used to buy into the tone wood on electric guitars thing, but it's been debunked numerus times by different people. You can think what you want, but it's just not true. Basswood is very underrated. It's smooth and warm with a hint of brightness. Great for melodic players.
I had the same guitar delivered on my 65th birthday. That bridge makes the guitar very harmonic !
Is there any play in the vibrato arm? Every Strat I've ever had the arm rocks in the socket and I hate it
Hi, screw in arm or pop in either grub screw?
It has a screw in arm.
It does have a slight bit of play. Ever try putting teflon tape on the threads of your vibrato arm? That’s a hack that has worked for me in the past.
