      On a modern air brake vehicle. Air pressure is required release the brakes by pushing the pads off the drum or disc whatever the case may be. When you apply the service brakes you are putting air pressure on the opposite direction which that in conjunction with the springs apply the brakes.
      basically if you have no air pressure the vehicle is not moving as a fail safe or if you lose air pressure the vehicle will start to apply brakes automatically just because it won't have any pressure to keep the brakes released.

It's generally advised in Europe to get out and get behind the guard rail or away from the road at least. If that's smart in the cold, is a second thing, but at you are the safest against collisions.

    Canadian tip to keep your bunk heater exaust clear from freezing up in the winter is to get a teenis ball cut a x with knife in it till it fits snugly on the exaust pipe. Just remember to remove it when your ready to fire up the heater. Just need some weights for those triangles and make sure your lights are clear. Please stay safe out there. In those types of road conditions the best place to be is the cab of your truck. When its like that it only takes a split second for someone to lose it. It important for everyone to make it home safely at the end day.

    Nice job with the Triangles Dave. Most truckers don't even bother to set them up. Huey Lewis said it's Hip to be Square but you proved it's Hip to be Triangle. CFI hooked you up with a nice crib. Don't take any spoons brother. Peace!

    TIP: If you are ever close to gross and driving in the ice and snow the buildup of ice and snow adds weight to your tractor/trailer and could put you over on your axles as well.I would knock it off whenever i stopped.

    I don't miss the bunk heater. I like my APU. In the winter I will set the temp 65. After my home time the truck will be warm when I get back to it.

    • @drawnbytornadoes
      @drawnbytornadoes 3 роки тому +1

      Exactly ...and for those who don't know it an APU on most can be put in the econo. mode when on hometime which keeps a fridge, warmth as your saying and trickle charge to batteries if they get below voltage point. But they will never do this..lol

      I drove for Swift for 6 years. Was averaging $1,700 a week working 5 day weeks and did it sleeping in my own bed. I was on a dedicated Quaker Oats account, took my truck home every night, hauled bottled water so I knew exactly what I weighed, and made $20 drop/hook pay on a 100% drop and hook route. You can talk shit about Swift all you want, but remember one thing- every driver out there was new at one point. Common sense would tell you the company is doing something right, considering they're the biggest in the US and they can self-insure. If it was as bad as the pretend super truckers make it out to be, it would've gone out of business a long, long time ago. It's the largest privately owned transportation company in the world. There are no investors to buy stock to offset operating costs. You can find shitty drivers anywhere.

      @@legion4076 Don't listen to the wanna be super truckers who love to talk shit and tell you "derp, my company is better because...reasons!". Even the super truckers who were born with a gearshift stuck up their ass were sitting in that seat with zero miles under their belt. 9 times out of 10 when a super trucker is bragging about himself and bashing other drivers or companies, they're nothing more than steering wheel holders or have never even sat in a truck.

    Just FYI, it does matter how far do you set the triangles, yo need to make sure they are DOT distance approved, if somebody crashes in the back of your truck and the triangles were not placed at the right distance is on you!

    If you have a decent inverter in your rig it's a good idea to keep an electric tea kettle in your truck to warm up water and use it to thaw out frozen stuff like that exhaust pipe for your diesel fired bunk heater
