Jedd’s always so complimentary about his fellow band mates, let’s all take a moment to acknowledge the level of musicianship he maintains. There’s a reason why he’s on the first call list of all the greats. Great episode.
Jedd’s a pleasure to listen to. A great talent but humble and appreciative of what he’s accomplished. Followed his dream to another continent and aced it.
For a cool short video, type in Vince Gill guitar collection. He has some great vintage guitars with cool stories. Vince is a down to earth guy. Thanks for all you do Otis
Thank you again. Otis Gibbs like Superman appears to be a traveling musician but disguised as one of the best music journalists and interviewers. Vince Gill was the guitarist for Rosanne Cash in those early days when she was performing. The list of musicians Jedd Hughes named are among the best. ☮
I met him in a music store. He was hanging out, listening to other people play. Did a song or two himself. He was friendly and patient with everyone. Not standoffish at all. Put his arm around my Daughter and I when he met us.
A very big reason to love @jeddhughesOfficial : "It's just intense listening, to contribute something that adds to the picture and doesn't, like you say (Otis), muddy the water. It's like what's key in that situation." A quote for the ages, whether music, world peace, or communication writ large. Thank you both.
I discovered Jedd when he put out Transcontinental around 2001. Great record. Still in my rotation. But I think the record company saw him as the next Keith Urban. And I thought he was more like this Tele guy he’s describing here. Then I noticed him popping up with a lot of other songwriters. Super solid guy. He’ll always be around and called on. He’s so good. He can sing, write, and play. And his vibe is just genuine.
Otis my man! Who don’t you know in the music world? You’re the coolest👍 Jedd is so underrated, first saw him as Rodney’s hired gun, he was so young, but silky smooth! Thanks Otis for another great interview, love ur content.
Been a fan of Vince Gill from the beginning. Awesome, awesome musician. Love what he does and love the fact he’s playing with the Eagles at the moment. Literally nobody else could just jump in the Eagles. Vince is THE man, he really is.
Great video Mr. Gibbs, I really love hearing people tell their stories. I always watch Jedd's videos on his channel. He is so talented, the complete package. Great guitar player, song writer and voice. But best is he is just a very nice humble person. Like someone you would love to have as a friend! Thank you for sharing, Cheers from Canada
@otisgibbs Thank YOU. I loved your working with Knopfler video from.. a few years back? And as a Vince Gill fan and as an Aussie who also lives on the US, I always love to hear how fellow Aussies are doing Herr. Jedd is clearly a top bloke.
Great stuff Otis and Jedd. I wish more than anything that I would have been able to make it down to Nashville for one of these shows. I think the world of Vince, Tom, and Jedd. It's so cool that they've more or less opened the door and let us plebs out here in for a look see. Thanks Otis and Jedd. Cheers guys
What a greta interview! This is my introduction to Jedd and the comments below have also encouraged me to check out more about his playing. It's a beautiful thing that even at 65 years old, music keeps giving me new things to hear and learn. Thanks, Otis!
Jedd is a great guy! He's a great player and has a wonderful voice! Some day soon he is going to write and record a "magic song". That's what I call a song that hits big and gets him noticed big time! I hope we can still have little conversations about guitars and music that I love so much. If you search "Sarah Buxton" here, Jedd did a show with just her and him, and its outstanding!! I think they play all the songs from one of her albums. Really good stuff!! 8) --gary
Thanks for posting this, Otis. Really appreciate your channel. My wife and I saw Vince's Ryman residency show this past Friday. So incredibly good! Love Jedd's work. Such a treat to see my guitar heroes, like Jedd, Tom, and Vince, together.
I was at the Saturday night Ryman show with my wife, son and son's wife. I told my son before the show that he was about to see two of the very best guitar players in not only Nashville, but anywhere, and get Vince Gill thrown in as a bonus. The show was sublime, Jedd and Tom lit it up and I thought Vince could go on past midnight! My rear was getting really sore from the Ryman pew!!!

Met Vince and his daughter at a random Waffle House in Nashville. Just spoke to them as we walked by their booth and said “Hey, how yall doin?” and Vince said “Great, how about you?” I said “Fine, thank you.” and that was it. Nobody was around him, and I just treated him like any other person I might pass, he was just a normal regular guy!
@bfr123456, reminds me of the first time I laid eyes (and ears, of course) on Stevie Ray Vaughn. Summer of 1980, a run down bar in Austin. Between sets, he walked by my table and I said to him “sounds great!”, to which he replied with a large grin “thanks for coming out!”. That was it. Pretty cool, though, at least to me.
@@melodymakermarkNice! I was lucky enough to see SRV in spartanburg SC in early 87. I didnt see him or Layton or Shannon but Lonnie Mack was down below the auditorium in an area about the size of a gym where they used to set up a wrestling ring and film mid atlantic wrestling in the 70s. He was smoking a cigarette and he was surprised we knew who he was!
@@melodymakermark I've posted this story before on You Tube. I'm a big fan of Los Lobos. Been going to their shows since the very early eighties. I was at their first big headlining show at the Greek Theater in L.A. GREAT SHOW! After the opening act, my girl had to go to the ladies room. I'm standing outside waiting for her and the lights go out. Los Lobos are about to come on stage and everyone scurried back to their seats. She's taking a long time (or so I thought) and I'm the only one standing there. I see a small group come in from outside and immediately see SRV, Lenny, and a couple of security guys. I am bugging out! They have to walk right past me to get to a side door for backstage. He sees that I recognize him and doesn't want to be noticed. They waited for that moment to come in. He starts to walk past and I pulled my pick out of my pocket and held it up to him saying nothing. He looks at it and smiles and pulls out a well used Fender medium tortoise shell pick and flips it to me and goes inside. I still have the pick, but not the girl. Fair Trade. Sorry for the long rant.
@bfr123456, that’s cool too! Any SRV encounter is. I was living in Memphis at the time and my best friend and I drove down to stay with his sister, who was attending UT Austin at the time. As pleased as I am to have the memory, I regret the way the night played out. We’d made plans with his sister and significant other to have dinner at Threadgills (an Austin restaurant tradition) so me and my bud were just killing time before we had to meet them for dinner. We dropped into a little dive called the Rome Inn. This was before SRV had hit the big time, but the Fabulous Thunderbirds were really big. We were just dropping in to see “Jimmy’s little brother”. Anyway, we only caught like three tunes before set break, and that’s when I had my little exchange with Stevie. There were two more sets to go, but we had to jet out to dinner. Over the years, I’ve looked back on that night thinking “you know, we could’ve done dinner at Threadgills on another night. 🤣 Anyway, yeah, cool memory. I don’t know if Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon were playing with him that night or not. Could have been. I was pretty fixated on the guy holding the Stratocaster.
Good video! I think my favorite "Vince Gill" story, was when Vince was in his late teens, playing in a "Bluegrass Group", that opened for KISS. Vince's band got boo'ed off the stage. I think he was in Oklahoma. Remarkable musician, Vince Gill. I Karaoked his songs, on many a night.

I played in a band that opened for Vince. I asked his drummer if he'd ever heard Vince sound bad. He told me in the seven years he'd played for him Vince's voice only cracked once and he had the flu and 103° fever!
at their recent show Mary Gauthier told nie stories about Vince and the song they co wrote and she was humble honest and humrous of course Vince seems like a swell chap for sure. When I firstsaw what he looked like I was on the flor laughing cuz def not as i imagined from a po country star like that all respect meant lol

Mr. Hughes is such a monster musician...everything he plays or sings is so soulful, inspired and right. Top shelf craftsmanship on display.
GREAT interview!
You gotta love Vince Gill and you gotta love Jedd Hughes!
(Jedd should be this relaxed when he's recording "in the shed".)

Mountain Smoke was the name of the local (OKC) bluegrass band that he was in before heading out to LA.
Besides being maybe the most talented guy in Nashville, I've never heard anyone have anything bad to say about Vince
Jedd fits right in with Vince and Uncle Larry (Tom B.)
Food, laughing, playing guitar.
Wonderful!
Still waiting for another Jedd Hughes solo album. I listen to him all the time.
So how many have you got? 🙂

Emily Lou Harris or someone asked him about his B-bender and was shocked to find out he didn't have one. That's how freaking good Vince is.
JEDD!!! :)
👌😎
Vince is indeed a triple threat. He can write ‘em, he can play ‘em (oh boy, can he play ‘em), and he can sing ‘em.
I think I’ve met Jedd as the opener for Rodney a couple of times. Have you been to the Sellersville Theater Jedd???
So how do you and Uncle Larry decide who plays what when?
I am confused, scared & don't know who or what to believe. Why should I do what you're asking?
Vinney got that Eagles look now days. lol
Vince tells such good funny, poignant stories.
I once sold a house to a couple and at survey time the lady said she bought the house from me because " I looked like Vince Gill". 1994.
