Go get ‘em, Jedd. I was playing with some of my cousins this weekend, and they noticed the difference in my approach. Almost all of that is due to you and Tom.
There's no other guitarists that inspire me to go get my guitar out and noodle around more than Jedd. It's the combo of his great playing and his good vibes. Thanks Jedd.
Jedd, Tom put out a vid last night announcing the people in th eband. Wow, what a lineup. Glad you're included brother. I hope you guys can get some practice footage. Have a blast my friend. Wish I could attend a show!!!!
@@JeddHughesOfficial I'm doing well Jedd. Love hearing you play my friend. I learn something new every time! I do miss Jeff Buckley, his passing was a heartbreaker for sure. I can only imagine the music he would be making today.
The Buk lessons are definitely paying off, I could hear him all over the intro to this one. Keep it up mate can’t wait to see behind the scenes of the Vince Gill gig!
I'm pretty sure you're talking about White Denim...great band! Check out the album D. Tom posted a video talking about what a blast you guys are having on this gig and was very complimentary of you as usual. Love your opening jam on the Shark Fin...good stuff Jedd! Cheers
Hi Jedd, great playing. Hearing you play and seeing you in a great mood lifts my spirit ! Thank you for that. Be well, look forward to more playing and stories.
Buckley does the same to me too. Blew my mind the first time I heard him 20+ years ago. The Grace album is easily in my top 5. It hit me on so many levels emotionally. He was a star that burned unimaginably bright. His writing singing and playing were unmatched. And I hope your dance party was a blast. Hearing that warms my heart.
That Teisco is still one of my absolute favourites of your guitars. It just sounds killer in such a unique way. Josie, her friend Clara and I were singing Jeff Buckley's Last Goodbye in the car the other day btw. The 14 year olds could hit the high notes that I no longer can! 🙂 I was fortunate enough to see Jeff in Feb '96 at Belvoir Ampitheatre in the Swan Valley just outside of Perth proper. It was a starry summer night and although I'm not by any means a religious man it was as close as I've got to a spiritual experience via music.
Great sound coming out of that guitar Jedd. I have loved your playing since the first time I heard you many years ago, thanks for sharing these videos!
Wow Jedd, you’re killing it on those Tescos. I had one like the gold foils and rocker switches. It was my fist electric. I’m not sure what I did with it. I do think I have one off the pickups from it. Very cool guitars!
Looking forward to the Vince show(s), what a great guy!! Being on his short list of band mates is a great place to be!! 8) Nobody mentioned Paul playing steel? I thought sure he would be there. I had a question, but I've got "CRS" this morning! LOL Have fun at the practice, that sounds great!! 8) --gary
Great stuff as usual. Thrilled about the Vince shows, too. And, yes: Jeff Buckley. What an enigma. West is 1 of my favorite records, btw! I got it right after Uncle Larry and yourself were hanging out in his kitchen back in the day. My fav thing you said: splatty & chatty. Look it up, kind! LOL.
Another old song I just discovered in the realm of Tim Buckley was nick drake river man. Rhythm harmony lyrics orchestration; it’s got everything. Love the guitar and the beautiful noodling!
Wow really loved that intro Jedd love the part where you throw in a bunch of octave changes like Wes Montgomery! Wishing I could make it out to Nashville to see you, Tom B and Vince at the Ryman Auditorium. I can’t think of a show I’d like to see more! That entire band is nothing but the best! Have a great time!
Hi Jedd. What a great tone on that spaceship looking guitar you've got there. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and points of view on music. I agree with you on Jeff Buckley. Such an unbelievable great songwriter and musician. The album 'Grace' should be a standard in every musicians recordcollection in my humble opinion. Have a great gig with Vince Gill. Best regards - Jonas
I hope there are some posts of the concerts with Vince's band!! I would love to see it. What you said about Mr. Buckley hit me hard, as when the stars aligned and I 'got' Jeff Buckley it absolutely blew me away. Grace is definitely one of my desert island albums. Also, COOL GUITAR!!!!
I don't know how into Jeff Buckley you are, I went down the rabbit hole. Dig up all those old bootleg recordings pre-live at Siné and the shows from around that time. It's absolutely fascinating to hear how he developed those songs that ended up on Grace. Hearing the extra verses in songs that were later dropped, hearing him start Grace from what became the bridge. He was an absolute beast on guitar too, even though he's known for the vocals. Jeff's my Elvis, I know his nickname as a child.
I can’t wait to watch all this! I love watching song evolution from live shows and watching the editing in real time! so much to learn from that. Thanks for the heads up!
Very cool Sharkish look to that old tiesco.i sTrolled over from OtisGibbs'.and subscribed. I cut my teeth(became a Packrat) repairing those old Japanese brands, too bad I didn't pick Gibsons.ive been enjoying some of West for the last hour.👏🏻 Fresh Air is great so I hope you kick the doors open if Uncle Larry shows up on Jedd in the Shed. Look forward to hearing more.✌🏻
Jeff Buckley was the reason I got my first telecaster at 16. Played the hell out of it. Really wish we got more JB albums, but at least we have Grace and his live shows like Sin-e, plus his unreleased 2nd album demos (some of which are also incredible songs).
Hey jman...cold chisel's ian moss solo from forever now on that guitar would be candy. Taking a seat at the bar...she don't know anyone..❤kick hard bro....
Speaking of using a common note among chords, one of the first tunes I recognized this in was David Grisman's E.M.D. on the original David Grisman Quintet album with Tony Rice. I think that's why the B7 chord in that tune stands out so much, because it is the outlier without the common E note with the other chords. Used to great effect. Love your videos man.
Jeff Buckley was intense, my friend. I agree with your assessment! P.S. A friend of mine named Molly Pauken has played with you before with Rodney Crowell and she speaks so highly of you.
The Opry is always a great gig. Have you met Jimmy Capps? He played guitar in the Opry house band and track sessions for decades. Capps passed too young. I'd love to hear any Opry stories.
Jedd, look up One Note Samba (Jobim) for pedal/common tones over changes and Central Park West Coltrane, nice jam ya did here, sometimes the guitar says it all ❤
Getting sassy on that intro Jed! Good stuff. Yes, the album Grace is a masterpiece. Andy Wallace recorded it and there’s a cool documentary that came with the cd/dvd release. Would love to see the prep for this gig, is it all Nashville number charts or all from memory?
I think I discovered Jedd a few years ago when I saw him play this guitar on an Ask Zac episode (yeah, I was probably late to the party). The sound of that old Teisco has haunted me ever since, and I had never given one second's thought to owning one before then. I then realized that the cost of not only obtaining one (they ain't cheap!) and then having it reworked sufficiently to make it into a "good" instrument probably wouldn't make sense for me. But man, those pickups are completely unique to my ear, to say nothing of the looks of the whole guitar. Aesthetics aren't usually my priority but this is one COOL guitar! My first guitar was a piece of garbage 60's Japanese Norma, so this sort of takes me back :) And yes, a big +1 on Jeff Buckley.
Jeff Buckley was one hilarious MF!! I think people overlook his guitar playing because his voice was so devastatingly outstanding with an incredible weight of lyric, but man could he play the six string. He was a freaky music savant angel.
Was the band White Denim? My little cousin is the guitar player in that band, if we're talking about the same band. His name is Jerry Clemons the 3rd, he goes by Cat Clemons. Monster guitar player.
Good Morning Jedd! Nice groove you’ve got going there! It sounds like you’re out of the ‘funk’, hope so.. Have a Great Day and a Great Gig at the Ryman! BTW, what looper do you use? Thanks!
Is that thing Vince showed you kinda like what Tom talked about once in an episode? Keep any melody/high note static and you can change to any chord and any bass note? Even outside the key? Sounds pretty cool and works great! Would love to hear more about what he showed you. Thanks!
