Trying a CPAP for My Severe Sleep Apnea

  • In this vlog I discuss my severe sleep apnea and how trying a CPAP for the first few nights affected me. My doctors think my sleep apnea could be making my depression resistant to treatments, as my brain isn't getting the oxygen it needs at night. They also think it is contributing to my weight gain (which contributes to the sleep apnea in a vicious cycle - though not everyone's apnea is affected by their weight, mine probably is). In addition, it could be contributing to hormonal issues, anxiety, a heart arrhythmia, extreme chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and more.
I am posting this a few weeks after trying the CPAP and I can say my energy levels improved, though I did get sleepy at first as I think my body was catching up on sleep. But I do have a lot more energy when I'm awake, and am able to get lots done in my days for a change. My doctors say the other health effects of the CPAP therapy will probably take up to a year to notice, as my brain needs to adjust to therapy and recondition itself to quality sleep.
Overall, I'm just grateful to be on a CPAP and able to start my journey towards better health.

I'm so glad that you are experiencing some positive changes. When I got my CPAP I finally understood why people go to bed! It did take a little time to get used to using it, and I had to change my sleep position too. I had trained myself to sleep on my side since it was supposed to stop me snoring, but after I got my machine I had to learn to sleep on my back.
I'm not sure if yours has a water tank on it or not. I remember how dry Alberta is...I found that where I am in Japan, January and Feb were so dry that I had to get one with the water tank in it. I got rhinitis every year until I got the steam function. Just in case you have to deal with that in winter.
    Good luck with your machine!
