  • My 5th sleep study, to try and figure out if there could be any physical factors causing my night terrors.
Basically, all we found out from this study is that I don't have sleep apnea (already knew that), I'm not having seizures at night (we weren't sure about that), and I wake up 17-25 times a night (based on the cumulative average from 5 studies). Go me.
I still don't have any answers on how to stop my night terrors, but someday I hope I do!

I just got a sleep study to re-evaluate my previous diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (I need a new CPAP machine cuz I stupidly decided to stop using it years ago, and its hit my like a ton of bricks these past couple of years). I hate the glue for the electrodes! It's a pain in the bum to wash out of my hair. Lol! At my previous studies in 2008, I pulled some of the devices off in my sleep a few times (autism-sensory processing disorder stuff. I pull my socks off all the time and pulled the finger cuff for bp/o2 as well, I guess...). I don't think they had to fix that stuff this time though (yay for sticky-tape monitors!).
I hope I'll never have to do the tube down my nose thing. That wouldn't be fun to start tugging at! 😂 the little nostral sensors I have to use are enough of a pain. Lolol!
Anyhoo, I hope your study got some useful results for yah. Sleep studies can be such an annoyance, yet valuable. I wish you the best, doll.

I have night terrors where I literally cannot breathe. I have been getting them forever, Typically, I dream at first that I am drowning usually or sometimes something else, but then I become completely conscious, yet still unable to breathe or move. I am so aware that everything becomes black and I am just unable to breathe or move.. I always try to yell for help or push myself awake. but I can never get myself to wake up. I have just been lying through it trying not to panic because that makes it worse...whats really weird is it happens quickly when I lay on my back.. for example if I am trying to sleep and lay on my back I will almost immediately fall into it and cannot breathe... however when I lay on my side it will only happen after ive already fallen asleep and started to dream. I also have insomnia and find it hard to fall asleep in the first place unless im completely exhausted from days of not sleeping much. Even when I do sleep it feels like I haven't slept. I get so tired from everything. I also grind my teeth at night and my boyfriend has to grab my head to get me to stop. Can anyone help me? I am afraid doctors will think I am crazy if I tell them I nearly suffocate in my sleep.

I have never had a sleep study, but I know how the tube down your throat thing feels.. 😞I had to get that twice in two weeks. Yes it's uncomfortable, you can feel it all the time, and I could not talk or eat. I only ate tiny bits of popsicles and drank some water. Also, I could barely get any sleep, and I had to be cautious. But the second time was too much for me and I ended up vomiting. It does not hurt when they take it out, but you feel weird. I never want that again in my life🙃. (PS. You are awesome, I love your channel)

I've had sleep issues my entire life, and have tried different types of over the counter sleep medication. My mom wants me to get a sleep study done, to see what exactly I need to help me sleep. But I know I'll never be able to fall asleep... The wires and shit are bad enough, but I have an extremely difficult time falling asleep in an unfamiliar place.
I dunno, maybe my lack of sleep during the study will help lol

Niki Samero I feel ya girl! I had a sleep study done two days ago. I couldn't sleep in the hospital setting...with the camera and all the wires. I kept needing the toilet as well. I probably had an hour sleep max! The sleep techs were probably so annoyed with me. I can't sleep in unfamiliar settings either. Even with my sleep meds.

Hi! Do you have any other videos on your night terrors? I live with someone who has horrible ones as well, and there is just so little useful information on the internet about this. Thank you for sharing the sleep study by the way! I hope you'll get well soon :)

I'm a Reg. sleep therapist. 14yrs). 1st test is to diagnose apnea. If test is negative for apnea second test will is to test for narcolepsy.. neither of the test will do anything for night terrors. It was just process of elimination.

Yeah I had one of these when I was like 11 and it was miserable, but mine was a lot different then this one, 1: I didn't get food 2: I went at 7 pm and left in the morning, so of course no naps. And just saying getting that glue out of you hair is awful. Oh, and they had me put on a back pack that held all my wires and you can imagine how great it was trying to sleep like that. Anyways I guess it was good I did it because I had sleep Abnea and a lot of other problems, but yep it was just so fun😂 (I distinctively remember before going thinking you sat in an all white room what like glass windows and people behind it watching you and taking notes😂

It just seems ludicrous. Any one of those things would be so uncomfortable. Does a sleep study reveal anything if the subject doesn't sleep?

From what I understand- the tube is a test in itself- if you see the nodules on it- those measure her tolerance. It has something to do with how well the esophagus is working. Of course, I may be mistaken 😅

Gosh, I'm sorry you're having night terrors. My son had them for a time when he was little.
I always wondered how people sleep with all those wires and in a place where you are being monitored. So now I know - you don't sleep much. Also, that tube down the esophagus sounds like torture! Who on earth could handle that? I hope they find something that will help stop the night terrors and that we find out soon!

Question.... Did the O.P. actually need the study, or is this simply another "Cha-Ching" on the part of the medical community?
Goodness knows I have certainly had those doctors.

That's great that they found it! I've been seeing a lot of progress on developing smaller CPAP machines that don't make as much noise. They just go across your face and stick into your nose, but they make a huge difference.
