Mover, what an historic accomplishment, getting all these pilots that were involved with the movie. The subjects of script, cinematography, naval command (Pentagon) approval & leaning how the motion picture industry works. There was an education on both sides of the camera. The laughter and tears of these warriors at top gun school, no, top gun ACADEMY, a unique time in US military aviation. You should get an award for this incredible interview!

I became a GCI while stationed on the Nimitz between 1977 and 1982. Upon rotation to shore I became an instructor at the AIC school (GCI). After my instructor I returned to a bird farm (JFK) and as soon as I arrived the Combat Information Center officer told me I would be heading to the spring 86 Topgun class (was there over Easterr).
The filming had just wrapped up. My instructors were the fliers from the movie.
We did not really talk about it and the first time I saw much about it was when I went to a movie in VA Bch and saw a poster for the upcoming movie.

I was part of a Marine GCI controller squadron at MCAS Yuma from 93-97. The Snipers have a really cool ready room, with lots of scale models hanging on the wall, and Russian themes everywhere. There was a Colonel commanding the squadron then, callsign 'Circus'. He was one of the 'Russian MiG-28' pilots in Top Gun, when he was a younger Captain if I remember correctly. Cool unit, and great pilots.

I had the privilege of talking to Hollywood at the Miramar air show in 1986 I believe. He was doing duty on the Topgun static display, 543 if I remember correctly. He was kind enough to talk to me at length and answer all my questions. I was a big Topgun buff, not the movie but the actual program. I became enamored with USN fighter aviation after reading about the Kleemann and Muczynski Fitter kills. I had read all I could on the subject, bought Shaws book on ACM etc. I’d even park on Kearney Villa road at the end of 24 and take photos of the jets coming into the overhead, at least until security told me to leave. I wound up with a pretty good collection of Topgun aircraft photos from 1982-1987ish. Hollywood answered all my questions was polite and treated me with dignity. I remember telling him he had the best job in the world and I’d sell my mother to Arab slavers to have that job. I’m glad to see all of you are well and getting the notoriety you deserve, not for the movie but for your accomplishments in service and for winning the Cold War.
Should also mention Venlet and Anderson regarding the Fitter kills.

Maybe, in the world of the movie, it wasn’t until Goose’s mishap that jettisoning the canopy became a boldface item.
In any case: amazing that you got everyone together for something like this. Most film and TV documentaries collect talking-head interviews with people on different days and intercut them, and here you are casually doing it live.

Thanks for all the entertaining and educational videos. I'd like to see you get a show on Fox Nation themed for aviation, cars, copters, and life lessons. You are a terrific interviewer and I reckon you could make that transition seamlessly.
