BUT you're not taylor, and taylor is keeping her marketing strategy ever since by pre-releasing singles that are public friendly (no matter how bad the songs are), especially for the younger ones (the song 'me!' for example), so she can still have a fanbase for the next generation. besides, she promotes the physical copies of her albums more than the singles that's why she will, and can never flop, and she always sells a million on the first week even though we're on the era of digital streaming.

I don't hate "ME!" but I agree it doesn't make sense for a lead single when ANY song off Lover could have been a single. It definitely made me think she just wanted to get us excited for her new album. But I love my girl. So I can't be too critical.

Taylor could’ve done a complete 180 from the reputation era by releasing more ‘meaningful’ songs like paper rings or I think he knows. But Taylor herself said in a recent interview that she wanted to keep the surprise element because she didn’t want people to feel that they have figured out her entire project by listening to the lead single. And if we look at Taylor’s history of choosing singles, we can tell that she has been following this approach from the start. This doesn’t justify this approach of course, but it makes me personally understand her choices. But one thing that is important to note here: Both Taylor and Brendon said that they knew the song doesn’t take itself seriously and they wanted to write it from that perspective. So it’s not a song that Taylor believes has genius ability indeed. She knew its weight and decided to release it because she knew what kind of song she needed to release at the time (again, it doesn’t mean I personally agree, but understand her choice). When Taylor was asked about her favourite songs on the album and the ones that she’s most proud of or the ones she believed are most complex, she said Cornelia Street, Lover, Miss Americana, The archer (which are in fact lyrical masterpieces) and she knew the weight of them and everyone who has listened to the album has to agree with these choices. So i do believe we need to stop treating Taylor as ‘an idiot’ for releasing ‘ME!’ As the lead single, because she’s certainly not. She just wanted this level of song to go first to keep the surprise element.
okay but the song is still terrible, and probably Taylor's worst song ever in her entire career. We been knew Taylor usually drops a radio friendly / very catchy song as the lead single but that doesn't mean the song has to be bad. Shake It Off is so radio friendly and repetitive but it's still a GREAT song, with good lyrics and production and that's why it was a massive hit, same with Look What You Made Me Do and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. There's no excuse for Taylor to release a song like that. After the critical praise & comercial success red, 1989 & reputation recieved, she had to do something even better. If she wanted a fun/not to be taken seriously/radio friendly & to not spoil the entire album as the lead single she should've chosen paper rings, i forgot that you existed or i think he knows. Taylor could’ve done a complete 180 from the reputation era by releasing more ‘meaningful’ songs like paper rings or I think he knows. But Taylor herself said in a recent interview that she wanted to keep the surprise element because she didn’t want people to feel that they have figured out her entire project by listening to the lead single. And if we look at Taylor’s history of choosing singles, we can tell that she has been following this approach from the start. This doesn’t justify this approach of course, but it makes me personally understand her choices. But one thing that is important to note here: Both Taylor and Brendon said that they knew the song doesn’t take itself seriously and they wanted to write it from that perspective. So it’s not a song that Taylor believes has genius ability indeed. She knew its weight and decided to release it because she knew what kind of song she needed to release at the time (again, it doesn’t mean I personally agree, but understand her choice). When Taylor was asked about her favourite songs on the album and the ones that she’s most proud of or the ones she believed are most complex, she said Cornelia Street, Lover, Miss Americana, The archer (which are in fact lyrical masterpieces) and she knew the weight of them and everyone who has listened to the album has to agree with these choices. So i do believe we need to stop treating Taylor as ‘an idiot’ for releasing ‘ME!’ As the lead single, because she’s certainly not. She just wanted this level of song to go first to keep the surprise element.

okay but the song is still terrible, and probably Taylor's worst song ever in her entire career. We been knew Taylor usually drops a radio friendly / very catchy song as the lead single but that doesn't mean the song has to be bad. Shake It Off is so radio friendly and repetitive but it's still a GREAT song, with good lyrics and production and that's why it was a massive hit, same with Look What You Made Me Do and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. There's no excuse for Taylor to release a song like that. After the critical praise & comercial success red, 1989 & reputation recieved, she had to do something even better. If she wanted a fun/not to be taken seriously/radio friendly & to not spoil the entire album as the lead single she should've chosen paper rings, i forgot that you existed or i think he knows. Me! should have never existed in the first place.
I feel heartbroken when people says ME! is bad. I love this song so much, especially that it features one of my favorite vocalists ever, Brendon. I feel like it could be not the best choice for lead single, but it still worked. It gave me chills. Don't @ me, I just simply love ME! :(

What's more sad is that Katy had such a good potential launch with "Never Really Over". It just sucks she went with that style choice for the video, and then stopped promoting it within a month. And then... AND THEN... she followed it up with two boring singles back-to-back. Katy needs an A-N-T-H-E-M, not a song.
