Great film. A much better film to showcase Naval Aviation than Top Gun in my opinion. Love the score as well. The scene with the Tomcats vs the Zeros was awesome!
It's almost weird to think that, in 2023, the only aircraft remaining in the air wing that's in the movie is the E-2 Hawkeye...and even then, it's the E-2D now, vs the E-2C back then. This is probably my all time most watched movie ever. Absolutely never gets old. Never. Finding this was a joy. Thanks!
Fun fact: the tomcat had to recover from a stall chasing behind the 'zeros'. Almost lost it in the sea. The 'zeros' were too slow...the tomcats were too fast
This movie has been one of if not My personal favorite for so many reasons. The music in itself is perfect. I've found myself humming and recalling the mellifluous sounding music mixed with spinning rotors of the sea kings and powerplants from combat aircraft of my time. Tomcats, Intruders, corsairs. And who can forget the tomcats and zero's. This movie had me ready to join the navy. Imagine everyone's surprise however when I came home from basic and schools as a pararrooper in the Rangers and 82nd to name. A few. Lmao. Defiantly in a class of itself. Please folks, for the love of all that is good. Do not hope for a remake in this day in age of....... Well most of you have seen or not, the horrible 80's remakes this generation of the confused absolutely butchered. Examples. Ghost Busters 2 and Red Dawn. All jokes aside, seriously don't.
A 'Thinking Mans' Movie. "There are more things in Heaven and on Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy". The amazingly evocative soundtrack compliments this great movie magnificently. 💜😪💔
Good points all! Also the sound effects are awesome, the sound of the F-14 trailing the Zero - pulling out of a dive, almost sounds like it's screaming as the engines spool up - just gives it so much power. And to think, this was only one camera shot! Not cuts, no CGI, no AI - just one well arranged shot, two airplanes, perfect.
Just saw a documentary about that scene.....the pilot said they were 100' at pull out. And the producers had the wife of the pilot scream and that was mixed into the engine sound.
When this movie was made, the USS Nimitz was the most advanced and feared ship in the world. Today, 40 years later, the USS Nimitz at the age of 50+ years is STILL the most feared ship in the world!

This soundtrack is one of the greatest movie soundtracks ever you can listen to it and see the movie happening in your mind what great music great actors and good script writing is supposed to d.
The one blooper in the movie that really stands out, is it shows the Zero's firing their guns from the wings. Zero fighters didn't have wing mounted Guns like U.S. planes did. The Zero's guns were in front of the cockpit canopy atop the planes fuselage.
I watch this at least once a day just to tell Marty sheen he has 😂Charlie, a forty. Year old dog. They should. Have made a sequel to the Final countdown so we could follow Warren Lasky in the limo with the Tidemans, any movie starring Spartacus great by me. I'm a huge KIRK DOUGLAS FAN. AND I AGREE WITH David radjch, the Tom cäts vs the zeros was worth the price of admission!
One of the most beautiful movie soundtracks I've ever heard.
It _is_ pretty good. I especially like the somber flute music in the first part of the track, starting at about 4:55.
@@robertgantry2118 Yes so atmospheric!!
Agree 👍
Absolutely agree.

In just a couple of more years, Nimitz herself will be retired. End of an era, man.
Okay, makes me want to cry to hear that soundtrack again after 30 years ...
Samez!!
I feel that. “Shake up the Zeros” leaves me speechless today when I hear it.
Love the movie and soundtrack. The dive of the f-14 tomcat . You can actually feel it.
Fun fact: the tomcat had to recover from a stall chasing behind the 'zeros'. Almost lost it in the sea. The 'zeros' were too slow...the tomcats were too fast
@@bryfunkenstein .. it’s the best scene of the movie. How crazy one thing was a mishap that turned into a exciting scene. Thanks for sharing.

Best best best best best movie i the world 😊😊😊
Loved the movie. It's an excellent "What if?" scenario, that could be possible, but just not in our lifetimes. The soundtrack is awesome, though.

I growe up with this Music and Movie!
One of Martin Sheen’s greatest acting moments.
The Believers was a damn good movie for Martin Sheen too.
Excellent soundtrack.
The F-14 was and will ever be the most bad ass fighter the navy will ever have!!! Great movie 🎬 and soundtrack also.
TOMCAT! Sir you are spot on. Anytime Baby. The tomcat taken to early I think.
Agreed!

Sadly, her days are numbered. She will be decommissioned in a few years.
@@Kgio-2112 as what i have saw in the news, USS Nimitz will be put out of commission by 2025 or 2026, or probably 2027.

Great Soundtrack and fun movie. :-)
Beautiful soundtrack.
Wow ! The bass trombone comes through loud and clear at 0:14
Thank you for posting this. Takes me back a ways. Seriously appreciated.
The Final Countdown, or as I see it, the Top Gun Prequel :-)
Excelente película, la ví en el cine en 1981 y no he podido conseguirla. El final ahora si es de película. También la banda sonora es excelente.
Great soundtrack.
Under rated classic
Indeed.
And underrated.
Incredible music.
This Soundtrack was my introduce to John Scott.Since then I am collected all of him.Inseminoid is my second favourite John Scott Soundtrack
His score for the 1974 psychological horror thriller Symptoms is excellent as well!

Helping me get through a lawsuit. Thank you.
Best of luck!
May your Tomcats “splash” the Zeroes!
I know Im kind of off topic but does anyone know a good site to stream new movies online ?
@Darren Gerald i use Flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Alijah Connor definitely, I've been watching on FlixZone for months myself :)
Zero pilot's fictional expression upon seeing a Grumman F14 was modeled on B17 pilot's actual expression upon seeing a Messerschmitt Me 262
Like, imagine sitting there strafing this puny boat, and then a schoolbus-sized rocket with wings goes past with this giant "BANG"

Splash the zeros! A gun burst of one second did the job on one Zeke. Hey, if Marty flu. bbed, a scene, Kirk could have grounded him
Inspiring,,,, F-14's wow .............They should never of retired thoise planes.
18:05 this is where the fun begins!
I've seen them fly F-14s with zeros at air shows and this music always came to mind..
splash the zeros
Hey, Fox, THAT woke 'em up!
in the Avengers Endgame, where you know that Capt America stays in the past and you see him old, totally thought of the last scene in this movie.
Sehr gut
Splash the zeros!
