I really don't understand why the Air Force needs to be on the ground. That's the area of responsibility for the army and the Marine Corps. As far as pure reconnaissance goes. There's none better than Force Recon. Period. Anytime, any place. No questions asked.
Air Force does plenty on the ground. From their security forces protecting airbases, Tactical Air Control Party for providing close air support for the Army, Pararescue proving casualty evacuation and emergency medicine for pilots and other special operations forces, Combat Controllers setting up drop zones airfields landing zones, and yes Special Reconnaissance to provide some reconnaissance support to SOCOM and the Air Force. Special Reconnaissance used to do just Special Operations Weather Team things when deployed but are now doing all sorts of information gathering like using handheld drones.
Sure they do all that stuff now. I'm just saying there wasn't a need for it cuz we had people on the ground for that already. Everybody just wants a piece of the pie. Just like when I was in Grenada. The biggest klusterfuk around. Just saying there wasn't a need for it.. not saying they are dedicated. Nothing negative. Just that it wasn't needed because we had people with those skills already.
Do the guy that says there was no dedicated intelligence and surveillance special operators. Well I would like to know what the hell I was doing with my team in Beirut Lebanon. In 1983 and 1984.
@minsikbuff To join the Air Force, you must live in the United States or an area that has an AF recruiter. Ladies and Generals: America introduces the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance Asset of Air Force Special Operations Command ( ISTAR AFSOC) , known as Special Reconnaissance ( SR) , Formerly known as Special Operations Weather Team ( SOWT).🇺🇲🇺🇸✈️🪖💣💥🪂🤿🇺🇸🇺🇲‼️
Well first off let's get one thing straight. All that material in your message was already known. It still doesn't answer the question. Why is something labeled "AIR" would want to make those kind of capabilities on the ground. It's just more money for the Air Force to spend. Is not a unit that is needed. Just like in Grenada. The only people that could communicate was marine and naval communication. Army couldn't communicate with Air Force vice versa. Navy couldn't communicate with Air Force. Army couldn't communicate with marine and naval units. Stupid planning. I know this cuz I did the hydrographic relay team before the invasion. So debrief and briefing is done with admiral Metcalf, general Norman Schwarzkopf was president. Why spend the money when you don't need it. Do you have army and Marine Corps capability right at your hand already.
I think you misunderstood my questions. With the Army, Navy Seals, Marine Corps. Were there reconnaissance assets I don't see the need for an Air Force One as well. It's in the name Air Force. It doesn't apply to the ground. That's why it doesn't make sense. Army has several assets to use, Navy has theirs, the Marines have theirs. Let's just spend more money I'm at the Air Force do it too. Does it make any sense, mentally, and financially. Never said they couldn't. Just think they shouldn't. I'm not dissing Air Force. My father joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He also fought in the Korean war. Was with him when the Air corps became the Air Force. I grew up in Air Force brat. There was no real need for the Air Force's special reconnaissance.
If you have such a huge problem with the Air Force Special Reconnaissance, why don’t you become Secretary of the Air Force and get Special Reconnaissance disbanded? Why don’t you go talk to your Senator and explain to him/her why Special Reconnaissance is a waste of time and money and that the Air Force should disband it? Perhaps the Air Force should get rid of the Pararescue jumpers as well and let the Marines and Army and Navy handle search and rescue. How about getting rid of TACP and let the Army call in air support or just let ANGLICO handle all air support missions?
Marine Corps is self-sustaining, and Marine Recon does recon for MAGTF. Army recon elements does recon for Army, and SEALs does recon for NSWC. They're all playing in their own backyard. Air Force SR locates potential airfields, guides direction of air and missile attacks, and prepares the environment. As you can see, these are all tasks that the Air Force would handle. Although SR supports other SOCOM units, the Air Force comes first.
In all this butthurt stuff that people wrote. Why does everyone get so bad out of shape when I brought up just a question. I served in Force Recon for 6 years. I have four combat tours. I think I know all about the other branches of services capabilities and such. It was just a thought. All these people that have negative responses to my question, I have a question for you people. When and where did you serve and what branch. What was your MOS? Because if you really were a PJ, or an Army ranger or whatever the case may be. But I have a stinking suspicion the negative naysayers, probably didn't serve. And if you did again what was your MOS. Completely completely misunderstood but I was saying. There was never any ill-will intended. I work with Army rangers, I worked with SF. I worked with Navy Seals, Anglico in Beirut. All fine units. So please it was just a question to throw out there. From my experience I was just saying why. I was not saying they all suck which was all the negative comments were thinking. Grow up.
Random person: I have never known, seen or heard about an SR operator.
'Random person' 2: Let's keep it that way.
Haha, When I was in the Marines the Force Recon guys used to tell people they were in "bulk fuel".
They should have called them Special Tactics Advanced Reconnaissance or STARs.

U.S. Air Force and Space Force Recruiting
So Combat weather, but it didn't sound cool enough. So they made this because recruiting sucked. Cool cool
Crazy how people will watch a 3 minute long video and immediately forget everything they just watched.
@@definitelynotthefbi4412 It's basically a Shake-n-Bake course for CIA field ops recruiting.
Not quite 😂
Unless of course the Air Force is using it just for their specific needs. But that is not the case.
Sounds like a plan.
Ladies and Generals: America introduces the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance Asset of Air Force Special Operations Command ( ISTAR AFSOC) , known as Special Reconnaissance ( SR) , Formerly known as Special Operations Weather Team ( SOWT).🇺🇲🇺🇸✈️🪖💣💥🪂🤿🇺🇸🇺🇲‼️
Marine Recon
Grow up.
