I made the World's fastest nerf dart, the MEGA kind this time!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The pipe is sealed at both ends with tape. Using a vacuum pump I evacuate all the air inside the barrel pretty close to full vacuum.
Once I break the burst disk (tape) at one side the air rushes in at an incredible speed (6 to 15 times the speed of sound even though it doesn't accelerate the dart at the same speed) and it takes the dart with it. The momentum of the dart doesn't stop at the end of the barrel so it breaks the other burst disk and it gets out at an incredible, destructive speed.
This version of the cannon it's not super efficient though. I learned a lot and the next video will be much more powerful.

its possible to get a nerf dart into orbit if you would do air pressure in stages (first low pressure, then add to the pressure by using a very long barrel for firing to prevent it from breaking)

using masking tape to prepare paintable stuff and glue, that's a smart one i'm going to use now
Get a tube with the same diameter as the dart because the air that is floating the tube and pushing the dart is faster and will slow down the dart at the end of the tube. With that in mind the dart could reach more than double the speed:D

From what I think the thing that came before the dart is really fast wind from the thing you made
Because it’s a really small tube with air pushing the dart and of course there is air that is being pushed by the front of the dart which made me think that the thing before the dart is really fast wind/air.
I’ve seen well built MegaBurns that hit as hard as this.

try to make a gun that shoots nerf darts, but that the gun works like a real gun.
Xtrouble but a gun works bc of a mini explosion in the cap at the back of the gun. If you were you make a real nerf gun that works like a real gun then the bullet would explode. (I based this whole thing off a few sources may be inaacurate)
that pointless, nerf guns already work like a real "gun". and building a firearm that has 80% or more of a completed receiver is illegal. and they already sell rubber bullets for guns because the foam will just catch fire and explode in the barrel
I think that the thing you saw coming out from the can was a high-pressure air "bullet", maybe mixed with the moisture inside the can.

If you do it gently you can push an elite dart into the back of a mega dart. This may keep it from wanting to collapse when it's shot

Interesting that it embedded in the wall after going through the can. It'd be interesting to see the different effects with different lengths of pipe. Could you get the same effect with 8 meters instead of 15? Cool experiment.
Ideas for custom darts: spiked Mega Darts, wooden Mega Darts with and without spikes, or instead of wood use metal Mega Darts with and without spikes! That would be an amazing video.
It would be cool if it had a shotgun effect, like mini darts or 3 normal darts

Experiment with shorter barrel lengths. I think you might be losing velocity as air gets around the dart and slows it down in front before the muzzle burst disk ruptures
HighFlyer but there is a vacuum in the barrel
So the dart sits at the end where he bursts the disk (tape) wich creates a unequal pressure betwen the vacuum and atmospheric pressure wich makes the dart move, so in short there is no air in front of the dart.

Please tell me the vacuum pump had just started when you put your finger over the 'muzzle' to check the tape seal. An 'accidental discharge' would have been very interesting to watch, but -- pain!

Very cool Giaco.. What ever it was that came out... Metal rod, bbs, aliens....... It paved the way for the dart. I would think that if the projectile made a tight enough seal in the barrel, a metal projectile would still be effective. It might not have a very high speed, but it'd have a good amount of momentum to punch through things.
