This is just like the beginning of the musical _Evita,_ when the theater manager interrupts the movie to announce that the First Lady of Argentina has "entered immortality." Incidentally, the real Evita was snubbed by the Queen Mum and King George VI (Elizabeth's parents) when they refused to receive her at Buckingham Palace during her Rainbow Tour of Europe in 1947. Also, both Evita and George died in 1952, within months of each other.
The Queen Mother was a truly dreadful person who was backseat driving her daughter's reign. You could even see the Queen's mood lifting and demeanour changing once her mum had gone.

Now, the news was coming, so chances are people were checking and someone around them would've heard the news even if they hadn't, plus central London did switch to appropriate screens pretty quickly, but it *it is possible* that there would've been people who by 19.25ish would not had yet heard.
The side of me that gets how stupid cautious PR has to be now knows they did that literally for those opening lines, because SoMeOnE would have complained that it was clearly a reference to her dying as if they don’t say it every night. No one lays a lily on their grave" Haha shit..

Were she still alive, Queen Elizabeth would have also graciously accepted the condolences of the cast; that's the sort of lady she was.

I’m pretty sure where the person who filmed this was sitting might very well possibly be where I was sitting all those years ago when I watched Wicked. So, it’s like I’m seeing what I saw right before the show started, adrenaline of getting the privilege to just BE in the theatre (I don’t live in London), so that brings back huge waves of nostalgia of one of the jolliest moments of my adolescence- but the only thing that is different is that an incredibly important figure just died.

What terrible announcing...he couldn't even get the words out properly. As to whether the royal family feel uplifted by the thought that the cast of Wicked send their condolences I have to say I would be astonished if they even considered it. The late Queen had no interest in the theatre whatsoever. This is just pompous self importance.
Rubbish. The Queen was actually a great fan of the theatre, in fact Prince Charles said in an interview that one of his happiest childhood memories was going with his mother, or sometimes his grandmother, to West End productions and variety shows. The Queen's favourite musical was Oklahoma, and Philip used to play the number "People Will Say We're In Love" for her when they were first married. Were she still alive, Queen Elizabeth would have also graciously accepted the condolences of the cast; that's the sort of lady she was.

I’m pretty sure where the person who filmed this was sitting might very well possibly be where I was sitting all those years ago when I watched Wicked. So, it’s like I’m seeing what I saw right before the show started, adrenaline of getting the privilege to just BE in the theatre (I don’t live in London), so that brings back huge waves of nostalgia of one of the jolliest moments of my adolescence- but the only thing that is different is that an incredibly important figure just died.

Well we were in the line to see the coffin and I can assure you probably 90% were young to middle aged.
Why not change the first few lyrics of the show to be "THE WITCH IS DEAD/ THE WITCH OF THE WEST IS DEAD!" instead of "GOOD NEWS, SHE'S DEAD/THE WITCH OF THE WEST IS DEAD!"?
It would drastically throw off the rhythm, and making that kind of lyric change for a chorus part without time to really practice it wouldn't be a risk worth what it's avoiding.
Because it would be asinine to start rewriting every live show every time an event of public interest occurs.
