I purchased that same gun back in June of 2024 used as a consignment , most likely an estate gun. Western Field M15OB , and the choke measures 0.395 with an inside mocrometer. Mine is the same just true to point of Bead. I gave 250 or so for it with tax waited the time frame here in Washington State and picked it up. We had a 183B our neighbor loaned us boys when I was young and never forgot those fun times. Thankyou , I did not know if TSS is ok but it appears it is fine , I do reload and use non toxic wads in some other guns so I feel you had a great video and great pattern , Thankyou
I have the exact same shotgun. Bought it used around 1973. Mine is actually a Hawthorne Model 150 B. Made by Mossberg for I believe Montgomery Wards. It's a great little gun. I still use it for dispatching varmints. The Hawthorne Model was made between 1953-56.
My dad bought me one for hunting 60 years ago and I still have it. Being left-handed I had trouble right away and only fired it 21 times before my dad bought me a new Ithaca Model 66. My Mossberg came with marbled fancy wood and the only one I've seen. It's basically brand new. My Ithaca is too because I quit hunting soon afterwards. It's been fired 6 times.
Thanx for the walk down memory lane, Great video. My grandfather from Corinth, Ms bought me my first gun the same exactly like this in 410. He bought it in Booneville Ms at a hardware/Barbershop (guessing Curlys barbershop?) for $27 brand new. It’s the most cherished gun since he gave it to me 50 years ago when I was 16yo. I have not used it yet for hare season in NH but next fall it’s on my bucket list.
I’ve got my old New England firearms .410 my dad bought me my first gun somewhere around 84 or 85. Had a fixed full choke barrel and man I remember terrorizing the woods with it. I haven’t shot it in a long time but gonna pattern test some TSs this spring as well in hopes of killing a turkey this spring. That’s the beauty of TSS bringing to life some of those older relics today. Good luck this spring.
I totally agree, that TSS has been a game changer, especially for the 410. My son did kill his first Gobbler over 30 yards. Only 1 pellet hit the bird in the vitals. This was before TSS hit the market. I just want to take a gobbler with this gun, because of it being my grandfather’s. When I get Older, it may become my turkey gun, because it’s so light and low recoil. Keep me posted on how yours patterns and if you kill a bird with it. I’ll try and film the hunt, that I take this gun on. My plan is to use my wing bone & turtle shell call that I made, Grandpaw’s 410 and borrow my dad’s case knife to breast the turkey with. If I can seal the deal, it will be a great accomplishment and memory for me. Thanks for watching and your comment. Marty
Very nice. Im looking forward to hearing about the turkey you harvest with it this upcoming season. I inherited my grandfathers Winchester model 94 in 30-30 Winchester. It's definitely a family treasure to me and I was blessed to be able to harvest a buck & a doe with it so far.
Yes, these are treasures for sure. And like you, I’m blessed to have it. My cousin will get the twin to this gun, that is my uncles gun. My uncle had this gun, for several years, but gave it to me. I my let my 2 daughters kill their first turkey with it also. If I kill a turkey with it, I’ll upload the video. Do you have a Video of your 30-30 kill? I’d love to see it. Thank you for your comment and for watching. God bless. Marty
That’s a great gun and a great story. I look forward to seeing you take a turkey with it god willing. I know that your grandfather is smiling down and looks forward to seeing it as well.
I have the very same 410 . The problem that occurs now is the extractor cannot extract the newly version of the three and half inch cartridge. The rim on the front is taper, where 30years back, rims were more square. The extractor hook slips on the taper angle. Only the two inch cartridge can be extracted...
Good luck!! keep us updated I have the model 183 d-b it's '50-'53 with removable choke and by the grace of whatever higher power I found a guy with full chokes for it I'm gonna do the same this year and hopefully we both smoke a stud!!
Thank you. I actually tagged out two days ago, but I wasn’t successful in taking a turkey with this shotgun. I took it with me several times, but the opportunity never presented itself. Maybe next year.
Thanks you so much for your review..I was just dusting mine off..It sits in a corner by my front door...Have you ever witnessed "Mag Wobble while loading??
50 years pulling that little Mossburg. The safety is the sweetest out there. I would never part with mine
Sorry 60 years after I think about it....Hahahaaaa

Thank you for an outstanding video. Love stories about old guns passed down through the family. Best of luck on your quest for a turkey.
My first gun was a 410, still have it. I have this same shotgun in 16 gauge. Love it
