I grew up with a Border Collie. She would actually 'herd' my brothers and myself to stay in our yard, away from dangers on the farm. When we grew older she understood so very much of what we said to her. She was just astounding. Her one drawback was fear of thunder. Poor girl had to be brought inside during storms. If we happened to be out and about on the farm when a storm rolled in we just had to hold her big old self in our laps until it was over. She was the perfect dog to grow up with.
They are such beautiful dogs with gorgeous natures. Soooooooo intelligent it is frightening. I used to take one of mine down to a play park where there were stacks of kiddies. Parents would all be standing around with themselves, so I'd pick my moment and tell Pfeiffer (the B.C) "Get em". and she would zoom off and just start rounding up about a dozen or more children. Fusck it was funny to watch. Eventually a parent would express concern come over and ask what was happening and you'd have to call her off in between giggles. She loved it for fun And yeah I've had four and they were all utterly terrified of thunder and fireworks. Turn into quivering, dribbling fools in your lap trying to get inside you via your lap to get away from the noise. In storm season it was a nightmare because you'd have to monitor the weather constantly and at the hint of a storm leave work and rush home. The boss thought it was ridiculous. But it was that or they escape the yard and disappear.
+Christusolus Thanks mate! I so miss having one. There is a absolute beachfront pub so every arvo I go down and hijack owners walking them. Without fail I get a B.C hit or four. They can be rude fuckers and completely ignore you no matter what you try for interrupting exercise or be all over you like a cheap suit. :-)
That's how my Bearded Collie currnetly is. She can't stop herding us, but whenever there's thunder, we cover her up and cuddle with her until it's over. Such a wonderful family of dogs, the collies.
2:23 i love how Chaser was ready for some more work but became so happy when she saw that the human became happy with her. Can't stop watching that scene.
I love on the last one, the dog is waiting for the guy to give his approval and without a word he smiles and makes a happy face with no words spoken. The dog then feels acknowledged and rewareded. so cute
wow. when they were back in the studio sitting on the chairs, with the dog chilling out on the floor in front... she says the name 'chaser'... the dog picks his head right up and starts listening to their conversation. chaser is clearly trying to discern if they are talking to him directly or not --and when the camera zooms in on chaser's face, you can watch his eyes and see how intently he is listening to their words. you can almost see his brain working--that he's truly a thinking creature.
This surprises none of us that have worked in rescue for years. Glad that others are learning just what intelligent beings dogs are. We know why we spend all our spare time and money saving dogs....They feel pain, fear, and loneliness just like we do. They give so much in return and they need and deserve our protection.
I have a Ca de Bou (Mallorcan bulldog) who knows a lot of words. If I for example say "Wikus (his name) - bring BALL. He'll go look for the ball, and if it's in another room, I'll say "no no, Wikus - BALL. In the COUCH." And so he goes in to the living room, finds the ball on the couch, and comes trotting back, looking very proud of himself. ^_^ He knows ball, rope, leash, sock, bento (a special treat toy), lila (means purple, for a purple toy), dalmatian (for a stuffed dalmatian he had), dinosaur (same there), stick, frisbee, chew bone, food, pizza, meat, treat, hungry (but I bet he thinks they all mean the same thing - I could make a test on that some day), friend, Alex (my fiancé), Frida (that's me), Mimas (mom's dog), Daphne (sister's dog), dog, baby dog (I say that instead of "puppy" to him), cat, go pee, go poop, visit friend, chair, bed, couch, and this is excluding all words that are commands. When I say something he doesn't yet know, he'll stare at me first and tilt his head around, then stare straight out into space, trying to process what I said. My mom's dog (Shetland sheepdog) knows the difference between go, go out (leave the room), and go to bed, which I think is pretty impressive. Border collies are super smart but all dogs are on a scale of intelligence, and molossers are pretty smart too. (Can't say that for the whippet I had though...)
Dogs can truly learn anything if you take the time with them. My dog legitimately will use nodding & shaking his head to answer questions & communicate with me :)
This makes me think of my own dog - who is 15 years old. Such a nice and loving dog. Even though he's old he still likes to cuddle up next to me and demands to be pet. Or he likes to play with our younger dog (who is 1 year old).
I find it amazing that he moves with the dog at the end, dismissing the woman. That's a very dog-like thing, and is vital. That man is brilliant. That alone, besides his brilliant companion.
What an amazing display of a dog's intellect, especially in finding the new, unknown toy by process of elimination. Sallie, the famous canine Civil War mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, was said to be able to tell the difference between Confederates and Union soldiers. She also recognized the various drum rolls that gave the soldiers their commands. Smart dogs!
Chaser's person and owner (Dr. John W. Pilley) died on Sunday, June 17, 2018. In April, he had been diagnosed with leukemia. Pilley would have turned ninety on July 1, 2018. Pilley's daughter said that shortly before her father died Chaser positioned herself facing his bed looking directly at him and barked loudly at him (she isn't a barker) and kept her eyes fixed on him until after Pilley died. At the memorial service on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, I saw and spent time with Chaser. She is till very grief-stricken and misses her person greatly. Pilley was at work on a second book about Chaser and how to train your dog to be one. The family--especially Chaser--are adamant that the book will appear soon as a memorial to Dr. Pilley, Chaser, and their work together.
Joseph R. Gainey Aw thats so sweet and sad wish chaser the best of luck with her next person but Philey will have a special place in her heart RIP PHILEY
Border Collies are awesome dogs. One night when ours was sleeping in my mom's room, she got up to get a drink of water and my mom grumbled at her because it woke her up. So now she waits until my mom gets up to go to the bathroom before she gets a drink of water. So smart.
I had a Rottie a few years back who could pick out toys like that. Amongst her toys were 7 rubber spiky balls of different COLORS and I could ask her to bring me the YELLOW spiky ball or the PINK spiky ball and she would. I think a LOT of dogs are THAT clever but we are, as a species, too self centered to realize it so we treat them like "dumb" dogs and they simply live down to their expectations.
I had a shepherd mix that could pick out toys too, like her hedgehog, ball, bone, etc and she also knew people's names and where they usually came into our house. George would come in the side door, gramma would come in the back door. So if you said Where's George? she would look for him at the side door, Where's gramma? she would go to the back window etc, Where's Elizabeth (my daughter), she would go upstairs to her bedroom. She died a few years ago - lived to be 14. Miss my old girl.
The dog is amazing and full props to her owner and trainer. The other thing I noted was that NDT was not so full of himself that he would not play with the dog at her level.
I just lost my border collie Gabe this morning he got hit by a car I never got to say goodbye because my friend takes care of him its half and half custody of him I miss him dear amen Gabe R.I.P.
And I bet if you donated one to charity, Chaser would be very upset. My BC Tess knew which one was missing if I hid one. She used to wake me up and woof in my ear to tell me I had to go per. She also herded me to my meter to tell me my sugar was too high and to the kitchen if my sugar was too low. Before she died at 16, Tess taught her new BFF-my red/white BC-to take over my job. And she did after a doggy lecture when she was just a pup and helped me manage my Diabetes til she died at 14 last year.
i loved this segment. .. this professor is from our local area college WOFFORD COLLEGE IN SPSRTANBURG S, C. this is so amazing and just awesome how smart these animals are. .. so cool
Awww that is adorable!!! It is a good thing that you were one step ahead of her and kept her inside... the poor thing hahahaha.. I love border collies so much. I was on a train once and a couple with a border collie hopped on, I ushered it to come sit next to me and it strutted up to me, sat next to me on a chair and it wanted me to shake its paw!! It was the most cutest thing I have ever seen!
I love these dogs and I enjoy reading each and everyones story. If you have a border collie, please tell me a story about them and what they did to show their intelligence. I would love to hear it!!

I love Dr. Tyson. He's so mind-blowingly brilliant that he could murder you in a battle of wits and you won't even know it....and yet is so down-to-earth to get down on the floor and roll with a doggy! :)

Haha. I was actually talking to Sheryl Johnson, but yours is awesome too
That's how my Bearded Collie currnetly is. She can't stop herding us, but whenever there's thunder, we cover her up and cuddle with her until it's over. Such a wonderful family of dogs, the collies.
By deduction????!!! That.is.incredible
induction
Eddi WTM
Displacement
It proves that they are capable of abstract thought
Some humans can't even find something by deduction
Chaser be like, "who the fuck is Darwin?".
Hahahha right right
Shut up man there dogs he found it 😔
Dan O. How dare you say that to chaser
He's giving the dog humor. Just because the dog found Darwin, it doesn't mean the dog didn't think "wtf is darwin?"
chaser: hmmm this weird looks not familiar I thinks its darwin haha
that dog is more intelligent than most people I meet
*****
As long as your not one of the "different" that sounds like an excellent suggestion.
Vincent Matlock (I know a reply to 2 years old comment), the irony is I think I trust a dog (or any animal) more than human because human lie alot :(
You ain't just a-tootin' !
What a magnificent dog! Was heartbroken to learn she passed away a year ago. RIP beautiful furry angel along with your dear human father.
She died? Bruh you cant do this to me
@@gutsssz 😞 sorry 😢
2:23 i love how Chaser was ready for some more work but became so happy when she saw that the human became happy with her. Can't stop watching that scene.
I have a highly intelligent Bichon. I talk to the dog all the time. The dog knows many different words. Smartest dog I ever had.
i have a bichon too :)
yes i heard theyre very intelligent too
I read this as "highly intelligent Bitcoin"
I had a Bichon too❤️ she even learned to do a couple tricks just by us doing hand signals. Very smart dogs.
They are poodle crossbreds.
Wow!!!!!! One of the smartest dog I have ever seen. I simple amazed.
That was cool
i just like seeing tyson this happy. he is the best
I met this man and his dog today. I played with the pup today when I was at Wofford college ❤️
I love on the last one, the dog is waiting for the guy to give his approval and without a word he smiles and makes a happy face with no words spoken. The dog then feels acknowledged and rewareded. so cute
The end just brought a huge smile to my face.

I love how he just plays with the dog on national television at the end, there.
Didn't take the dog long to train that guy to shake his head around either! :)
That dog is smart and Dr.Tyson is great! you rarely see adults showing such genuine warmth and curiosity towards an animal, very nice.
You can see Dr DeGrasse really adores Chaser. How adorable they both are
That dog has more ability to focus than most of my classmates.
I have a Ca de Bou (Mallorcan bulldog) who knows a lot of words.

My dog is a little like this, she knows her toys names but she doesn't have as many as Chaser. The dogs mind is truly amazing
She's so cute and looks like she's having so much fun too
I find it amazing that he moves with the dog at the end, dismissing the woman. That's a very dog-like thing, and is vital. That man is brilliant. That alone, besides his brilliant companion.
This makes me smile.

I hope the family treats her well. RIP, Professor.
They won't give my dog a driver's license even though he drives me home from the bar every night.
Peter Griffin is that you???
It must be such a privilege and wonderful experience to have a dog like that
it's the dog's unique desire to please humans that makes the difference
The interaction with NdT at the end!💞😍💞😍
How could anybody dislike this? It has Neil Degrasse Tyson and a puppy!
That's one smart dog. I like the ended when the one dude and the dog started playing.
Beautiful dog
Oh my he is such an intelligent dog
DeGrasse-Tyson is SOO enthralled by what this dog is doing that he can't help but laugh like a little kid..
A dog of the same breed was doing the same trick with the toys on a German game show. Those dogs are so smart. I wish I would have one too.
She is so smart and cute.
That science guy Neil cool af.
Very cute! I read her book, that she actually loves to play too
Wow That Dog is Amazing

I only know ten words, the ones in this sentence.
onthespoke and you counted correctly. Now you get a treat.
+G+ is terrible How did you learn the word "ten" without learning the words "one", "two", "three", ...?
+lah30303 "ones"
+lah30303 "ones"
+lah30303 cuz he knows how to count the number but doesnt know they are also words
Dogs are so awesome. Border collies definitely very smart. Chaser is great, and what a lucky pooch to have so many toys!
Absolutely amazing!
You could tell the woman's not a dog lover. She had her chance to pet Chaser and kept clear.
Chaser, all the best to you, you wonderful animal.
Border Collies...best dogs ever..!!
It's sad how nowadays reality TV shows are more popular than these types of shows. Thank for you posting this video :)
Worth it for Neil's reaction to finding Darwin.
CUUUUUUUTE! I wish my dog could do that.
Amazing! Delightful!
most amazing dog/animal ive seen
My dog cant even distinguish the difference between sit and lie down -.-
My dog doesn't even know the difference between shitting and pissing

Wow, more intelligent most humans!
Cute dog and Neil D Tyson. This is internet gold!!
NEVER seen before.. amazing!,.....from hk..
I love these dogs and I enjoy reading each and everyones story. If you have a border collie, please tell me a story about them and what they did to show their intelligence. I would love to hear it!!
Bonnie was my girl.
I took her to obedience classes to give her something to do.
She maintained eye contact with me nearly all the time.
She picked up the idea on nearly every exercise quickly.
In the end, Bonnie left us, we think, for a neighbor/farmer who had livestock, and real work.
If you want a chill dog, do consider a Retriever. But if you have tons of love, patience, and work, a Border Collie might be a great choice. ❤🐶❤
Process of elimination. Smart dog! I like this video
I always do that whenever I take an exam and dont know the answer hahah
I love Dr. Tyson. He's so mind-blowingly brilliant that he could murder you in a battle of wits and you won't even know it....and yet is so down-to-earth to get down on the floor and roll with a doggy! :)
She's so cute :)
I have no words just wawoo...
That's amazing..
