    Here I am: A GenX who is not benefiting from this book at all! I watched Mili Velikova's review video and shared my thoughts on the comments section. As an older woman in her 50s I have a keen perception about people. I don't know David Kibbe, I am not a member of any group related to his styling techniques. I bought the book because I found this styling approach interesting by watching UA-cam videos. My gut feeling is that he is a stylist Con Artist. I said it! He has created this "persona" that only exists within his fantastical Kibbe World. Aside that, I have never heard of him or seen him in any fashion related scenes. I call him "The Wizard of Oz of the fashionsphere". He is not known for styling any celebrities or famous people. His name has never come up anywhere, and I compare that to stylists of the height of Law Roach, Andre Leon Tally or even Tim Gunn.
    His supposed "system" was a rip off of the work of Harriet McJimsey. He made his own concoction of that previous system and made it seems like he created something. I found the book boring, the language convoluted, shallow, and lots of nonsense. It is more of a self-help book than a true styling guide.

      @@rosanilebron1566 thank you so much for sharing! You are not the first person I’ve heard compare him to the Wizard of oz 💚 I think it’s a very apt comparison, unfortunately. I’m sorry you didn’t find success with this book ~ I’m honestly glad to be done with his system after years of study and confusion! I would loooove for Law Roach {or someone who’s actually GOOD at styling} to share their secrets 🤭

    Very interesting to hear your thoughts, lots of them were similar to my experience of the book too! Loved seeing the shopping section - i literally wondered what shops stock their clothes by sizing?
    And yeah the draping still confuses me!

      @@StylingbyPriest I don't want to be mean, but some of the outfits he put together had a very outdated feel and definitely not something I see in stores at all ... (I loved his dramatic look, that lady looked so stylish)
      But the SC look - I wouldn't know where to find such a dress?! (I don't like the dress but that's not even the point, I haven't seen that sort of silhouette anywhere). So I feel like him not giving any guidance on options felt very ... unhelpful!

    I agree with a lot of the critique. I definitely could have done without the constant mentions of his past. But then again. He is a RU in Ritas style key and you can clearly see that in the entire book. A lot of things were a bit alienating because of that.
    I'm very grateful for Reddit for closing the "knowledge gaps" the book "left me with".
    But at the end of the day it is his system. He didn't create it for every woman but for himself. We just decided we want a piece of that cake lol

    • @StylingbyPriest
      @StylingbyPriest  5 днів тому +2

      @@ducklingscap897 forgive my ignorance ~ what’s “RU”?

    • @ducklingscap897
      @ducklingscap897 3 дні тому +3

      @@StylingbyPriest Rita created a style key system. It basically describes a logic for your style. There are four style keys (visualized with quadrants). There are two dimensions of style: left/right and up/down. RU means right up. It means when creating an outfit the person cares about their environment and the message the outfit is going to send (right logic) and their outfit is going to be a bit "extra" or bolder because the people want to be looked at (up logic). According to the "up logic" "extra" in style helps people make sense of you: it’s like a lens that helps people properly focus and *see* you.
      In contrast the left style logic means that styling choices are best guided by your inner experiences, sense of self (so you don't really care about sending out messages into the world. Your style is about you and nobody else) and the down style logic means that getting dressed is about emotionally connecting with yourself and the situation you’re moving in to. Outfits are often more simple as people feel easily overwhelmed by certain clothes.
      I feel that Kibbes book is very focused on style being a message and all that.

As a parent I want to be able to get dressed quickly and move around easily but I also want to look put together and stylish.
