Education was not always a business. The best Universities in the world like Princeton, Harvard, Yale and Oxford were all founded by missionaries that aimed to bring education to the masses. However, these days all the schools and colleges are owned by politicians with only business interests in mind.

Their syllabus is unnecessarily bloated in name of all round development, they cut deals with publishers to prescribe fancy books whose price is exponential compared to content. Ingrain them to develop some expensive hobbies that is mostly irrelevant like stamps collection, coin collection, mugging world map just to show off infront of other un-informed parents and gather useless accolades , first step to validation seeking behaviour and fascination with foreign countries.

Why people send their kids to private School it is because State governments are stick with their own state language medium.. But when you go to give competitive exam you have give exam in English or Hindi. So now sending kids to Govt state board (medium) is worthless. For example Tripura. If you want go abroad you have to speak English, Teaching in bengali medium is worthless, even TPSC takes exam in English. So teaching their kids in state medium is totally worthless. Therefore parents are forced to send their kids in Private School.

Most of the big private schools/colleges are owned by big businessman and/or politicians which are always in collusion with each other, it has become like private hospitals where the public service provided by govt is pathetic which forces you to look at the other side where they loot you as you have no other option ,since everyone is out there to loot. There are many bad things in Delhi(not NCR) , but one good thing that I have observed that has happened over the last 10 yers is that school fees have not increases in such high number.

Teachers salary is a joke... They don't even pay 1 student's annual fee as a teacher's annual CTC. Claiming 10% hike on fee every year in the name of salary hike is never implemented.
Many private schools don't pay more than 40k/month (incl. PF and Tax) to a teacher managing 6-10 classes STEM subjects.

Why is ThePrint focusing only on international schools and making the claims they are making? Of course, it is obvious that international schools are expensive, which is why they are not the cup of tea of the commoner in India. If ThePrint really is interested in informing the citizens of the cost of education in contemporary India, first they must provide the data on what % of youth in the country are in enrolled in such international schools and what % are enrolled in other common schools. But then, the single point agenda of ThePrint is (and has always been) to spread negativity about contemporary India and carry out a regime change via social engineering and manufacturing consent. And therefore, their flawed reporting is only predictable.
