    You done a fine job young man I'm a retired machinist while I was working I would take a broke windmill sharpen it by hand on a 45 and hand clearance it worked great and fast and easy way to use up broke tooling would take a pretty heavy cut then climb mill on the spring pass and be chatter free you also have a nice shop of machines and tooling keep up the good work

  • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering

    Good build and a great pair of cutting tools Tom 👍
    Quick question, were your table gibs locked when doing those cuts? I’m curious to see if it improves those skip marks 😉

    • @TomMakeHere

      Actually not sure now. I did however find that my spindle bearings were a tad loose, but I haven't checked since. So that may be it

    I think these two Cutter Bodies look fabulous. I really like the fact that you are well aware that the Insert Screw location is critical. Been Selling Industrial tools for over Forty Two Years. Dont worry about getting them Blued or Blacked. I think the raw finish makes them unique and that's the way they should be. Very well done..! As far as the finish the first tool produced, check to see if those TNMG inserts have a neutral or positive rake, if they are true TNMG Inserts, they have a neutral rake meaning the "back" of the cutting edge may be hitting as it exits the cut... producing the chatter marks. 🤔

    • @TomMakeHere
      @TomMakeHere  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, they are positive rake, I think the issue is that the entire edge slaps against the work piece, and I was taking deep cuts for my mill. I probably need to experiment with feeds and speeds a bit more too

    • @TomMakeHere

      Ha ha yeah those chips really came off hot! I think that was at least a medium carbon steel, but I'm not sure (scrap special)

    Gday Tommy, Great design and build, there’s a fair bit of math involved with making these so that’s me out, the broaching tool did a beautiful job with the hex, was there a burr in there or did you knock them off first?, great idea as always, thank, take care, Cheers Matty

    • @TomMakeHere
      @TomMakeHere  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah the dual cutter (with top and bottom inserts) really messed with my head for a while.
      The broach kinda pushes 6 curled chips inside, I just run a drill afterwards, it catches the chips and tears them off easily

  • @rickpalechuk4411

    Nice design, would have liked to have seen an indicator on the inserts. I see a potential issue with the tips of the inserts not being on the same plane. There is nothing to register against in that plane except the fastener.
    Cheers

    • @TomMakeHere
      @TomMakeHere  4 роки тому

      You mean perpendicular to the vertical face? You might be onto something there, that might be the cause of the misalignment. I suppose I based the insert seating on some lathe tools I have which really doesn't matter where the insert seats
      However I think mainly I will use these for cosmetic bevelling (followed by sand paper) or bevels for weld prep, so it's probably not the end of the world

  • @ianbertenshaw4350
    @ianbertenshaw4350 4 роки тому

    Top job mate !
    I like the idea with the retaining bolt ! This couls be what is giving me grief with one of my slitting saw arbours as it uses a countersunk screw and i can never get it running true even though i know the hole in the saw runs true and the arbour does too but there is a little play in between the two - must investigate that !
    Are you having trouble with trolls or hate mail or something ?

    • @TomMakeHere
      @TomMakeHere  4 роки тому

      Might be worth a try at least, or maybe turn the arbor down a bit, and press a sleeve over it with less play?
      No real troll issues lol, I've just seen arguments over centre drill use as a spot drill (it's the wrong angle etc). I only use the tip of the centre drill which I like to think is a reasonable option
