I believe that the process of using both the yarn end and the tail of the cast on to double the second and third round of knitting should be credited to "Crazy Toes & Heels" socks, by Mary Ann Beattie, who's book from 2002 had this as her claim to fame technique.

If I want to use Judy's magic cast on, would I just cast on 12 stitches (6 on each needle) and then proceed with the increases?
