- Some use DPN needles and I use 2 circular needles to work in the round. Here is how I cast on, get my stitches divided and join the knitting in the round.

I'm so glad to hear! I still have vertigo and have to just deal with it. We did the maneuvers to jiggle the crystals around, doesn't last long on me. So I'm just used to it now. Good luck on your knitting!

Clear, simple, succinct tutorial. No extraneous chatter. Easy to follow with just the right amount of detail. The K2 tog is a great idea. I've been knitting in the round on DPN or one circular for years. This is my first attempt at two circulars.

This is terrific. I use 2 circulars for all my in-th-round projects: hats, socks, cowls, etc. Sooooo much easier than Dps. However, use the same size needles with different cord colors not to get mixed up. TAAT socks are fabulous. Thanks for posting this.

Do you have video on this same technique but with two socks in two needles? You video helped so much. It is clear and organized for beginner knitters.
Hey thanks for your question. I know some do like to work socks two at a time, but for me, it's just too much to track and two balls of yarn, and it's easy to get lost on which needle is next, so I tend to do just one sock at a time. If you can mark one sock as the "first" sock then make a deal with yourself that you won't stop mid row, but always complete a round on both socks before putting down your work, you may be able to track this easier. Find a system that works for you.

I typically use 2 24" circs. But depending on the project I may use one short or one long if I don't have 2 the same length.
I don't know if this is easier than magic loop. It's just my go-to way of doing things. Give it a go with magic loop and see which way feels better for you.

I have tried them. Had to come up with a "system" so that I could track which row I was on when I'd set my knitting down for the night. I also do 2 sleeves at a time when working on a sweater.

Do you only do tight stitches on either end/join for the first row after the cast-on or do you continue doing it as you knit more rows?
I do the tight few stitches on each needle for EVERY ROW. That way a "ladder" stitch doesn't appear between the needles. So yes, do it every row.
How do I know I'm turning it around the right way or if my socks will be inside out? Thanks for your help, Alice
After cast on, and joining in the round, you keep going in the same direction. You could put a stitch marker a few stitches in on the needle you start with. Then you'll know this is always the "first" needle in the round. If you are knitting every round, it doesn't really matter if your stockinette stitches are on the inside or the outside. You can knit the whole sock with stockinette (knit side) stitches on the inside of the sock, and when complete turn the sock inside-out.
Wait but where do you go from there?! You said you were gonna make a sock. How do you do so with that? How do you determine how many stitches you need for various sises? How do you deal with the heel and toe and ankle parts? I am trying to find out how to make dragon scale socks and arm wear for a friend.
This video is for working in the round with two circs, which is helpful for working socks, not a sock video. There are a ton of sock patterns on Ravelry, lots of videos on heels and toes here on UA-cam. I do have a video for knitting with dragon scales that may be helpful.

I'm new at knitting. I am so confused whenever there is more than one set of needles involved in knitting. I have not yet tried to do anything like that. Same with the double pointed needles.
I totally understand. But once you get your mind around it, you'll be making so many more things! Think of it as one needle bent in half, so half stitches on one side, half the stitches on the other side. You have the option to work back and forth like regular flat knitting, or connect it in the round and knit in the round.
Do you have the yarn coming from the ball over your thumb in long tail cast on? Or am I seeing it wrong? I thought tail had to go over thumb...but I am a new knitter, could be I’m doing it wrong. Or does it even matter which way you do it?
The long tail does go over your thumb. In this video I didn’t even start with a slip knot. And technically it doesn’t really matter which way you do it. The most preferred though is tail over your thumb. Thanks for watching.
what size cords are u using ? what size needles ? i only have 2 16 inch cords ...and redheart 4 ply yarn ........how many would i have to cast on ? no sock yarn
I typically use size 4 needles with a 16" or 24" cord. I have shorter and longer, but I seem to grab the 16" the most.
If you are using 4 ply yarn, you'll cast on fewer stitches than if you had sock yarn. You would probably want to use a size 7 needle or bigger. If the yarn is too thick for your needle size, you'll feel like you are fighting the knitting. And that's not fun.
So I would look up sock patterns for 4 ply yarn over on Ravelry. You can sort by yarn weight to find patterns.

Can I use this method to do a gauge swatch?
Yes of course! I find when I'm working colorwork across a row, in the round, my knitting is a little tighter than straight knitting across a round. So it's great to know how your knitting goes compared to gauge. Sometimes I even go up a needle size when doing colorwork just to make up the difference.

When you have to stop for a bit, how do you tell which needle to pick back up with?
Excellent question. The yarn going back to the ball will be hanging off the stitch you last completed. So if it's mid-needle or the end of a needle, Pick up your knitting so that the last stitch worked (where the yarn is hanging) is in your right hand. The first stitch on the needle in your left hand is where you start.

Hi. I need help.
I first knit one at a time toe up GSR heel socks on one 9” circular. And then knit Two at a time toe up socks on one long circular using Magic Loop
Now I’ve bought two sets of the same size tips (2.5) and two 14” cables so I can knit Two at a time; Toe up socks; using Judy’s Magic Cast On.
But on Two Circulars.
I found Magic Loop really annoying
I can’t find a sock pattern or tutorial for that combination. I’ve been searching and searching but can’t seem to find anything exact.
Can you direct me to a pattern with video tutorial (I’m a see-do learner)?

It would be the same as your magic loop. but you would have two needles. Learn the technique using two needles as in the video. once you have the concept down you should be able to adapt it to any pattern. It’s just a matter of working half the stitches on one circular needle and the other half of the stitches on the second circular needles. Just like with magic loop you work half the stitches then you pull the other stitches up on the needle.
I have a project in mind that only starts with 8 stitches in the round but dpns hate me. Would this technique work for such a small number of stitches?
Yes, I work projects where I start with a total of 6 stitches. 3 on one needle 3 on the other. As the project increases, I adjust the stitches and use stitch markers to denote different "dpn" for instructions I'm reading. For instance, I'll be following a pattern that calls for 3 dpns. I'll use stitch markers to let me know if I'm on "stick one" or "stick two" or "three. And it doesn't matter if you half of your stitches on "stick two on circular needle one and the other half on circular needle two.
I use this technique when I'm making knitted knockers... Watch this vid to see if it helps.

Yes you can get them around 16 inches from needle tip to needle tip. I find that those needles are shorter and hurt my hands after a while.

There are Twist Shorties by ChiaoGoo which have short tips and cables in 5, 6 and 8 inch- red are mini US0-3, blue are US4-8 , plus they sell 2” cables to make flexible DPNs too. They are great needles.
How long are the cables on the needles?
Depending on the project, I typically will use 16" or 24" cables. I don't mind if they dangle a bit....and sometimes the shorter cord, like a 9" cord also has shorter needles which make my hands cramp. So I usually use 16-24" cables. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Most people knit right to left, are you left handed?
I am right-handed and knit from right to left. Maybe it's confusing since i'm using 2 circs? After working the first circ, I flip the needles so that I again go from right to left on the 2nd needle. Hope I didn't confuse ya!
