I am working on a pair of socks using this method. I definitely had "second sock syndrome", so this is a wonderful way to get an actual pair of socks much quicker!!! I don't even want to say how long it took between sock one and sock two before learning this method!!! Thank you Staci. As with so many of your other viewers, I absolutely love your videos and your wonderfully easy to understand instructions.

Watching you knit is mesmerizing! The production of your videos is outstanding. I have seen professional tutorials by publishers that pale in comparison. The camerawork is always spot on, the definition of the video is crisp. So is your teaching material and how the projects are broken down to simple steps. You are a very gifted teacher, and the technical means make your knitting shine. A pleasure to watch!

If you are knitting what is essentially a closed tube maybe it might be a good idea to put the ball of yarn in the tube as you are knitting and in this way it will stop the yarn from gettling tangled

For anyone struggling with tension and working the second pass of wraps, picking up both wraps at once makes them easier to work into than when you pick them up one at a time like she suggested

Such a clear tutorial! I’m a total beginner and understood everything. Prefer toe up because if I go cuff down I’m always insecure if I’ll have enough yarn ☺️

I have been so bored with sock knitting lately, but this really gave me the spark I needed! With this technique, sock knitting is interesting and new again and the best: you don't run the danger of second sock syndrome where you are too bored to finish the second sock. This is a great video, thank you so much! ^___^

Oh, WOW!! Thank you so much for doing this video!! I'm a beginner at knitting and started doing socks on a loom and it took 2 DAYS just for 1 sock! I became better at knitting with the needles but didn't want it to take forever to do one sock at a time and you have definitely made my life easier!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

I’ve only knitted cotton dish rags but have always wanted to knit socks, I spent this whole day just learning this, so I got about 6 rows started, ripped out and over and over, I now got somewhat of a feel for it and talk about exciting that I even got that, I will work more and more each day like this until I get the whole entire concept of it, I know I will get it and then I will order the pattern, I can’t wait!!! My Mom passed away last December and I would have loved to show her, she would have been so proud, she taught me how to crochet,,,Thank you so much for this tutorial, I am loving it❤️

Hands down, 👍BEST knitting channel on YT. I just love your channel. If your a beginner, intermediate, or expert, you can find something on here. I love that you do thorough videos on patterns. I'm self taught knitter, and way back when I knit my first pattern, (crocheter first) maybe just maybe, I could find a video online for help. Mostly, I endlessly searched the Internet for a blog post for help. I did learn but it was REALLY hard. I would cry being so frustrated. You know, casting on 90 sts, by the 30th row, I'd have too many or too little of original sts. Sts falling off needles, (I'd have panic attacks) holding needles so tight, my knuckles were white. Lol. Knitting was suppose to be fun. I had no one to help me. I didn't give up though. The area I lived in, didn't have a yarn store. Closet one was 75 miles. Even now, closet one to me is 35+ miles away. Having you on here, is a godsend. I'm purchasing my first pattern today. 😁 I've been subscribed to you for awhile. I just haven't had the time to really go through your videos. I'm going to be broke. 😉 Lol. Thank you for FINALLY making a knitting channel the correct way. I know there are class videos on other sites etc., but they're a bit $$. 💜

I love this method and have used the self striping sock yarns for it three times. You can use the maximum amount of your yarn if you knit toe up. I have knit from one single ball of yarn using the inside and the outside at the same time. I just pull some yarn free to lay in a loose puddle next to me on either side. (No cats) I turn my needles clockwise on the knit side to turn and counter-clockwise on the purl side to keep the yarn from tangling. Love your videos!

Wow; Your tutorials are becoming awesome entertaining and enlightening! Thank You Stacey for Your gracious insight. Who needs Netflix with Your tutorials to watch? I will have to do this pattern this winter; I really want to try that German short row toe out; I am wondering if the fit is more soothing. So far I have done both cuff down (once) and toe up socks being my most performed sock.. I love knitting socks! I would love, love, love to see You roll out a series of German Short row tutorials. Oops, now I see why You were picking up the wraps!

Wonderful tutorials. Your beginning sock pattern helped me to knit my first-ever socks and I have watched your magic loop tutorial, so you are my go-to for help on techniques. This pattern is truly line-by-line and it's very clear. I did find that a tapestry needle helped me to pick up the wraps when purling - I would pull the right-handle needle out some to secure those stitches while I turned the left-hand needle toward me to get to those wraps. I have experienced my first wrap and turn project now. Thank you.

Having already seen your tutorial for the 10 Stitch blanket- when you do the wraps on the socks, it makes more sense, because it is ALMOST the same concept of shaping the knitting. I agree with the other viewers- you honestly make it more fascinating to learn how to do some of the more difficult level type of knitting. Gives a semi-beginner (me) hope that I CAN figure out those kinds of projects and expand my knitting horizons. Thanks so much!

Oh my gosh, you are the very 1st person that I've ever seen that holds their crochet hook the same way I do. My grandma began teaching me to crochet when I was, I believe 6 years old. She held her hook the conventional way, and I couldn't seem to get the hang of that. I naturally wanted to hold it the way you do.
I've always felt like my "unconventional" way looked, well...not very graceful. But, it's the way I've done it for over 40 years, and I feel like it gives me better tension control than I would ever achieve if I were able to hold it the way most people do. I'm so happy to see that you hold yours this way. Haha, it seems silly, but I admire you so much, and I truly feel better about my crocheting now! Thank you, Staci!
I'm so glad I found your channel, you are a most excellent teacher; I just adore you

Thank you Stacey that is very helpful I told myself through the Lord God how to knit in 2016 and I'm 65 and I'm legally blind but she just taught me a lot of techniques that one day if I get a chance to learn to soften it that would be wonderful I say I'm a beginner too intermediate and I'm learning so you taught me a lot that was wonderful and I'm glad even though it was a long tutorial it was worth it sometimes we need those long tutorials to help us to understand just the basics of things and it's usually the little things that get us all in trouble whether it's knitting or life isn't it so thank you peace shalom

I am one of those single sock syndrome people and that is why I gave up sock knitting years ago. Now after seeing this I'm eager to try it again. Thank you so much for doing this video! I had just finished a knitting project and my husband asked me what I was going to do next. I started working on a baby sweater but I think I'll start a pair of socks now too. I'm also one of those people who get bored very easily trying to do a project like a scarf, shawl or sweater. It seems it takes forever so I am reluctant to start or stay with it. I finally finished the Saroyan Scarf, it only took me 3 months to do it. This looks fun! I love your videos! :)

So excited to try this. Just bought pattern. It's good value, spelling out everything over 12 pages. Ah ha! Very clever, slipping stitches to make the toe. I do prefer 2 at-a-time but have always used 2 needles for fronts & backs, of different lengths or types of needles to have different colored cables. Pondering if I want to try it magic loop, which I am not a fan of but it has its uses. I need some bulky socks for winter so am going to give this pattern a try. Thanks!

Two at a time, toe up is my FAVORITE way to knit socks. It is perfect for my OCD so I know that both socks are EXACTLY the same length. I work a different style heel that can get tricky, but I usually end up transferring to DPNs to work just the heel. Then I transfer back to magic loop and fly to the end.

OMG!! I think my head just exploded! I got so turned around picking up stitches, getting rid of the provisional cast on, then moving stitches over, knitting...I just did a lifeline on one toe, took it completely off, got everything placed the way it should have been done if I had done it right in the first place! Now, to move on! I'm highlighting where I screwed up, & will try to do it right next time! Talk about a hot mess! My brain must have short-circuited at that spot, or my ADD started working overtime! Phew! Despite MY shortcomings, I love this pattern, & am doing it along with this video, watching the video parts over & over again! Here's hoping it gets easier when I get to the heels! I DO like this idea of knitting 2 socks at a time because the wraps are easier this way, at least to me! And it will hopefully be faster once I master this method!😬

You can email me at staci@verypink.com if you need pattern support - but my guess is that you're issue is more with tension. You may want to use smaller needles, make sure you're using wool yarn, and really focus on being sure that each stitch is as tight as the last, with no loose stitches.

ML always confuses my brain. I'm glad you make a worsted version - I'll definitely try that one first. I've made tons of socks on DPNs and circs but the ML method is a lot like rub the head/pat the belly - which is hard for my brain! You're looking "verypink" btw - which I suspect is from wearing a green sweater against the green screen you're shooting in front of. Thanks so much for making videos!

Adding this to my knitting watch later list. I'm going to go out and buy some worsted weight sock yarn first.

    Hi Staci
You will be happy to know that I am now on my 3rd pair of socks and have nailed it, just finished the heel, got the tension right, got the heel right, closed the gap at the heel and am thrilled. I will continue in 8 ply for a while yet as I am making them in 3 different sizes for men and women in self striping acrylic for a Vegan Market next year. I thank you again for your awesome videos and patience in guiding me through what was at times a frustrating experience. I will tackle sock yarn some time in the future. I would love to send you some sock pics...what is the best way? Thanks again from Australia :)

Wonderful tutorials. You taught me how to do German Short Rows. I had never seen it done before and it makes knitting socks so much easier. I am now watching your tutorial on magic loop, toe up, 2 socks and am wondering, can this be done with GSR? Thanks for your informative tutorials. I look forward to more.

Any short row technique can be substituted for another. This pattern uses traditional wraps and turns, but if you are comfortable with German short rows, you can use those instead. This video explains more about substituting: ua-cam.com/video/52qy8OOb-s0/v-deo.html

What about a tutorial on ankle length socks?

  • @CWatts5LaLa

Hello, love love love all your patterns, your cable earflap hat was what inspired me to knit a few years ago! I have wanted to try socks for ages! and i am defiantly someone who doesn't want to repeat a pattern after completing it so figured 2 a time socks were best for me.
I have got the pattern and knit to the end of the toes but am having trouble unzipping my crochet stitches. In your video the crochet end WITHOUT a knot is on the right, and the working yarn is in the back on the left, when you have the right side of the socks facing you, allowing you to unzip the stitches and pick up with the right hand needle.
However I seem to be the opposite way round??? if I have the right side of the work facing me I have the end WITH the knot on the right and the working yarn at the back on the right. Even if I slip one sock off onto different needles I cannot find a way of correcting this?
Have I started from the wrong end of the crochet chain when I cast on?
I don't think I have missed a row but would kitting across once more on each sock help?
Can I just snip off the knot and unzip the crochet chain from this end and then position my stitches ready to knit in the round?
Please help me I would love to finish these socks and finally get over my phobia!

Charlotte Watts-Wooding - part of your question was cut off, but I think I can answer it, anyway. Even if your slip knot end is on the opposite of what I show in the video, you still have to unzip your crochet chain cast-on from the NON slip knot end. It's not a problem - everything else will work normally from there.

One thing I didn't feel you made clear was that you need to split your yarn ball in half and have different ones for each sock

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 років тому +1

It's all in the pattern - the video is only made to accompany the written pattern, which explains much more than I can in video.

At first your like, "UGH! MY YARN IS SO TANGLED!" Then a few minutes later you said this, "Taking off the provisional cast on is the most fun part!" --Lets just say that the provisional cast on is a pain in the butt. Looks like you having fun making these socks. Great video Stacey!

Thank you for this very clear video, but in the critical places, where you add or reduce stitches, and do something, specifically, it would be clearer if accompanied with some explanation in written, just for us to understand the process, and what exactly you're doing and why.. But GREAT video, so generous of you to share that much of your experience..

Just between us, do you have a favorite needle you knit socks on? It looks like the sets mostly start with size 4. Most sock yarn needs a 1-3. I generally use Knit Picks chromes, but have fallen in love with Knitter's Pride cubics. Unfortunately, they just start with the 4. I'm trying to learn stranded knitting, but plain, I use 2@time, toe up on Magic Loop. Thanks! LOVE your videos!

+Vanessa Carballo - I show all of the techniques used in the video, but I really have to use a combination of written pattern and video tutorial. I'm afraid if I went through every stitch of the sock in video, the video would be HOURS long. :)

To keep yarns untangled, place working yarn on one sock to the front of the work and the other working yarn to the back. Move yarn while working to opposite sides at all times - in back when work on one and in front when on hold.
