Probably because you follow the new Vatican II rules. He is a "traditionalist," so that is the difference. He explained it in this video. If you noticed, the mass is in traditional latin, versus english.
Thank You so much Ben. I enjoyed this even though I am protestant, I enjoy hearing and learning of your faith. Always be very careful, if you plan on visiting New Orleans. I have an acquaintance who lives down there in outer area. Hear a lot of horror stories. I hope you enjoy Mardi Gras. Love your cooking videos! Blessings & Peace to you 💕
Thank you for explaining & sharing these traditions! Was raised as a Lutheran, so we observed this special season & followed many but not all of these traditions. Thanks, Ben... you explain things very well. 👏 Many blessings to you and your family!☺🙏
I grew up Catholic family always follow the no meat on Fridays instead we had fish and of course for lent gave up things we individually enjoy parent love no tv Saturday morning cartoons
Wow I’m 71 and raised Catholic. We were only told I meat on Fridays and fast before communion on Sundays. What you said was very interesting. Thank you and I will look this up now because I’m interested in this. Love to you and the family ❤
You were probably too young to remember the old laws. Many of the laws that I follow and have discussed in this video were phased out in the early 1960s.
I am strictly Lutheran, but I find that what you are teaching us is very interesting. I am learning things I never knew about Lent either. I remember my dad fasting when I was little, but never understood it. Thank you for the insight,
Great video Ben as a Traditional Roman Catholic I grew up and have followed the same rules. Only fish and vegetables was and is all I’ve ever eaten during lent.
We had fish on Friday’s. and gave up something for lent such as sugar in coffee or treats or tv time etc. i lived in New Orleans (from Canada) for two years. What a magical place, but it has changed since Katrina. Thanks Aben, very nice
Hi Ben, I grew up catholic and didn’t know much of what you’re teaching us. We celebrated Lent, but only obtained from meat on Fridays. And of course gave up something during Lent. Thank you for explaining this. I look forward to more of your videos. Thank you! God bless! From Canadice, NY ❤
I'm A Roman Catholic so I love and enjoy watching all of your videos regarding all things Catholic. Let me edit to say that I also love watching all your videos. I have learned alot from you regarding Traditional Catholic rules. I actually never knew some of these things I had no idea about what meats you could and couldn't eat etc
I never knew the lent rules…except give up an item or food, only the fish on Fridays. Actually I thought you couldn’t eat meat at all during lent. I didn’t realize all the other rules. Thank you because you teach us so much.
Thank you Ben. I took the RCIA program and converted to Catholicism. It is hard to learn so much in a short period. When my daughter asked questions we learned together or she taught me. I look forward to learning more.
Ben, Happy Mardi Gras, a smart person learns about the world they live in, our planet and the people on it so many things to learn and about everything. Keep your curiosity going and learn something new every day-thats what I try to do theres always room for more
Another great reason for following you Ben. Your knowledge and experience to fasting and the meaning of Lent is interesting although I knew a little but now Thanks to you I have a better understanding. Love your dedication and effort ❤
It isa good thing I’m not a Catholic because I cannot fast or I am stressed or skip meals my IBS-D flares up! I’m also 66 years. But I do love fish and seafood!!!!
I think you are quite well-spoken. I enjoy your vocal cadence. Your videos are interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing! Well wishes from Southeastern NC
When I grew up my best friend was Catholic, I don't remember her fasting or doing lint I'd go to church with her sometimes but don't remember her doing that stuff for her religion
@LifeofBennett well she was very young it would be her mom to have her children learn and the sisters that taught her in there schools more, her father wasn't religious well I don't remember him going to church
I will never forget my first dose of learning what the ash wend was all about .. I was working at the bx at Keesler AFB.. in Biloxi, Ms. and this older lady came thru the checkout line and I told her she had a smudge of dirt on her forehead.. she smiled and said her religion was catholic and she was celebrating in Ash wend...... I had never heard of this before so I had no idea..
This is very interesting Ben. Is this tradition over the years. I love your dedication! Are these church rules? I’ve never heard this! You are very knowledgeable!i think you said this is tradition.keep up your blogs Ben. Very interesting!
There's no need to apologize for how you speak...we are here to learn from you and to get to know someone who - though a walk-on player with ISS and LHL - is an interesting person in and of himself...
Most of that would be ok for me as I’m a 33 year 11 months vegan. However, I’m diabetic. I’ll go ahead and say this while I’m here, my diabetes was not caused by food. It was an unfortunate side effect from 9 1/2 years of prednisone for severe asthma. I hadn’t been told it could happen but breathing was nice, so who knows. Anyway, the fasting would not be ok. Thanks for the explanation. I explained about my diabetes because someone elsewhere wanted to say it was caused only by the way people ate. Not the case.
Ben you're very interesting you have a lot of ideas that are different from mine, I've learned a lot of things from you but at 68 years old I just don't remember all of them LOL
Norma here. I was raised Catholic. Attended Catholic school through High School. Friday was the only day when no meat was allowed. You must be following some pretty old strict rules. We also give up something we love from Ash Wednesday through Holy Saturday. Mardi Gras is also referred to as Fat Tuesday. I don’t think we were spiritually neglected. The nuns and priests taught us all about our religion. It was up to us to actually pay attention and retain what we were taught.
Norma, then you must know that you are following Vatican II rules and not traditional rules. I had to follow Vatican I rules as that was what the Catholic Church taught, including all masses in Latin. I, too, went to Catholic school.
@@aliciareyna4342 Norma here, I was pretty young when Vatican 2 rules first took place so that’s what I was taught and remember. My church only celebrated one Latin mass on Sundays and that was the 11 o’clock High Mass which I rarely attended. The kid’s mass was at 9am and the older kid’s mass was at 10am. And yes, I did know that. Just surprised that Ben was reciting old, traditional rules that the majority of us no longer follow.
I look forward to your cooking video! It’s the Morrow side that makes you think of so much all at once! 🤭 Your brain works faster than your mouth can articulate! It’s not a bad thing! You have a lot of interests! It’s good to know of other religions as well - to know exactly what the differences are.
I went to New Orleans once an I only live 4 hours away in ms but oh my it’s a culture shock so get ready for sure . It will be 3am an you won’t realize it there . The smell on bourbon street is bad tho an DONT wear flip flops bc so much broken glass . Anyways their food is amazing and I loved it but it was 6am and I had no clue.

Jesus is the most Precious Lord & Saviour of my life. I'm sorry but Catholicism is a man made religion filled with rules to follow. God judges by the thoughts & intentions of the heart.
Catholicism is absolutely a God made religion. It was founded by Jesus Christ! Who founded your church? I bet it was a man. That would be a man made religion.
@@aliciareyna4342 it was ONLY because I lived in that religion. I have a lot of knowledge of it. Not judging it, just stated my views of when I was in it. Why did you feel you had to tell me that? That's like calling me judgemental and I'm not, I'm just stating my beliefs because I lived as a Catholic for 35 years.
I don't think you are being clear about your Traditionalist practices. . You are following rules from the Middle Ages, which is fine (going above and beyond is a good thing) but not required and most importantly not considered sin by the Catholic Church today. The basic rules of the Lenten fast are no meat on Fridays and fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. One meal is even allowed on these days. It's important to be clear. There are reasons the rules have been relaxed throughout the years. It can be very discouraging to people when the rules seem too much to bear, especially today when people are so spiritually weak. And one reason for that is that people were not properly taught the faith in the 20th century, as you said. God's mercy is great, he stoops to conquer. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is the main resource for what the Church teaches. God Bless.
Ben has not been preaching. He's talking about his faith. There is a difference. Maybe your conscience is being aroused if Ben's convictions bother you. Perhaps you should examine that.
I'm roman catholic and we never followed those rules. No meat on Fridays that was it. Thanks Ben.
