- This is The Cars Live from their performance at Musikladen on November 29th in 1978 in Bremen, Germany
This German television program, Musikladen was aired on June 7, 1979, and later released on DVD by Rhino Records on October 24, 2000 (just three weeks after Benjamin’s death). The Cars performed in Germany one week after their Rock Goes to College performance, and only two days after performing in France. I love this song, love this performance in my old home country

Warmest regards to you all from Tasmania,
Tia ⚡ 😇 🎸🎼
YES! And thank you- I love this song and did play it a many time's...this one when I first heard it I though Ben and Ric traded lead vocals in the bridge before chorus ... I do love this and bless you for uploading.
Always a fan and always a like-a Big LIKE from B.B.
Hi dear Brett Basil, I am so glad you love this :) I love this song so much. It seems we both have similar taste :D I love you Benjamin and Ric share some of the chorus together as I really love the way their voices sound so perfectly orrsome together. I think this is (to me anyway) such a classy timeless classic performance. I feel mad at myself for not having been there. ;) I was living in Hamburg and we had just left some time before to move to ( what I consider the most beautiful island that I have ever seen, we did travel a lot when I was young) Tasmania. Sadly I downloaded 3
other videos and Mr UA-cam became very strict and I was told straight away that those 4 videos cannot be seen worldwide :( I was very sad as one was Just What I Needed Live Aid 1985
, The Cars Heartbeat City Live Aid 1985 and I am especially saddened by not being able to share from SNL on of the best ever live performances of Drive in 1984. My video quality was not so great, it was from an old video but again I was told it was blocked world wide. I am saddened about this. But at least so far it has let me download and share a lot. Warmest regards from a warm sunny autumn day in Tasmania, Tia :)
@@benjaminorrelectricangelro5493 Yeah , a great friend mailed me a dvd of performances like the SNL and i was never really able to see these things much live. Until You Tube - we never would have got to. The only like event s I witnessed was the Fridays ep's and Ric on SNL for This Side promo
I kick myself because of Ben;s performance in Springfield Illinois. I really had a chance to got but had my own band commitments.
Thank you for uploading and bless you
Tasmania...your friend "B.B" -Brett
@@brettbasil I am so grateful we have the ability and chance to watch them live with UA-cam etc. I am glad to be able to download old videos friends sent me over the years from the old video player , an antique but made to last and convert this to videos to upload here. I remember being young and being a huge fan and just not seeing that much of them. It was so frustrating. I think it is wonderful to be able to share these to keep Benjamin alive in the hearts of fans and perhaps also find some new fans for him and the band as I have seen some young people comment and be amazed at the sound and style of these guys. :D
Best band ever seen them in marquetmuchigan i was 20 66 now and my grankids love them
The look Benjamin and Elliot share at 2:55 is something special, having so much fun up there with your friend and bandmate
EE’s playing is so flawless. I wish he played the ‘Solo’ spot at this show. I believe he did later on in the tour, as it’s so poignant and tasteful.
One of my favorite Cars songs 😊
Ben Orr great bassist
My favorite Cars song.
This is such an interesting song. The studio version has sublime Elliot Easton solos that just ache. It has Beatles fingerprints, it has New Wave touches, it is funky and poignant at the same time. I love the pre-chorus, "something in the night just don't sit right..." What a great hook.
Lots o beatles and others in Cars....way cool
I was the only one in my high school who really listened to these guys. I didnt know I was on the spectrum but something about their perfection and attention to detail spoke to me. Got me through a lot of hard times.
In my top 5 favorite Cars songs. Let’s hear it for Benjamin Orrs background vocals. He’s awesome
Maybe the Cars' best song. Certainly my favorite.
At 2:35 Greg Hawkes adds keyboards that change the entire song as it’s known…I’d like to know why this version was NOT recorded. It’s amazing!
Makes it feel more *climactic* , I love this part alot aswell
Because it's before the album was even released. They kept working on it and thought the studio version was better. Simple as that. Personally I prefer the studio version and Elliot's amazing solo in that section. That keyboard line is basically just the melody line that's played under the chorus. He does the same thing in the first chorus too.
I think Ben is being especially adorable in this video - love this song! Thanx Tia. x
@Carole Barker , I totally agree Benjamin is especially adorable in this video :) I owe you an email , I am so sorry I am so slow. I have been thinking of you and hope you and your family are doing OK. I also love this song so much :) Sending you love, and please stay safe, from sunny Tasmania, Tia xx
@@benjaminorrelectricangelro5493 Thank you, Tia, for your good wishes. Hope you are well too. I will send you some pics soon of some new kittens we've been blessed with. (Come to think of it, Elliot is fairly cute in this video too! What's not to like?! xx)
@@carolebarker2195 Oh, kittens

Good song
Elliot's guitar wasn't turned up enough. Its the real magic of this song.
I think Greg's fingerwork made up for it
EE is playing mostly rhythm here. Maybe he hadn't worked out his solos yet. Perfection on the record though.
Very Nice Video
One of Eliot's best solos was not included with this version. Why? Only the Cars know.
No, I know why too. Because this is pre album. Ric probably hadn't figured out the complete arrangement yet. It's obvious they worked out more details in the studio and Roy Thomas Baker along with Ric got him to play solo's in those sections.
Eliot didn't do his cool little guitar break!!
This is probably a very early version before they recorded the studio version.
Great to see this live version. This song really got in my head back when it was released. I was in High School and it was the typical boy meets girl, boy loses his mind situation. She was the TNT, I was the fuse. At 16-17, life is teen angst and sexual hormonal frenzy. The Cars music was the perfect soundtrack to my life. I knew that girl almost 50 years, until she passed a few years ago. Yes, I'm here reliving old memories. Aloha Ben and Ric.
