  • Returning to our ABANDONED home Cordelia, never did we think that we would find such a mouldy filthy mess. On top of that we also find things that were perfectly okay when we left but have somehow perished, broken or died during the time we've been away.
On a good note, for the first time ever we pick up our new Cruising Car and we are super chuffed.
Enjoy the video and leave us a like and comment, we promise to reply

Oh I have sooo missed u 3 on the boat, I took my cupboard doors off, cut out the louvers and stapled in some Bird wire, looks great easy to clean, great air flow. 🐶💜sorry the boat wasn't cleaned for u, makes it's really hard to feel good about stuff. But I'm really stoked ur Back. Oh I love the new Mercedes, she's awesome, I saw the black one and went Oh Yeah!!! 👍Then saw urs and went, Oh well next time🤣 but she's got a good engine. Xxx hugs 4 Gus, just a tip, thieves look for nice looking motors, so I resprayed the scowling in camouflaged colours, it made it unique and looked like Sh!t😲😆

Haha! I would definitely like to do something about the louvre doors, but that is the bottom of our 'to-do' list for boat work, which seems to be longer and longer. We are really pleased with the new Mercedes 'Woody', never had a new one and its awesome. We lift her out of the water every day and chain her to Cordelia, to keep her safe. I know that Gus would let us know if anyone approached the boat so that's good too.
Thanks for your continued support. Sending. woof woof hugs ❤️🥰⛵🐾

Just found your channel and can relate. We fly in/out of SE Asia and it takes longer and longer to close the boat up before we depart and equally longer to recommission when we return. Mould is a big problem, and we use vinegar, bleach, oil of cloves and anything else to try and slow it down. Like yourselves it takes us a week to re-climatize in the humidity. Our very flash 10-year center console electric start dinghy died last year and literally went to the bottom (whilst we were onboard). A new Highfield was ordered and being in SE Asia we went from a 55kg Honda 4 stroke to a 17kg Yamaha 2 stroke. The old RIB was fiberglass and all up weighed well over 200kgs - the new one less than 100. My back is loving it. Loved the sharp words when lifting the outboard. We set ourselves a 28 day no swearing challenge but never seem to get past day 1. Yes, I'm the 'CAPTAIN' on our yacht. My wife is quick to tell everyone this, but also in the same sentence that she is the 'ADMIRAL'

This is the longest we have ever left our boat and never in the tropics, so we learnt a lot. It has also made us consider where we sail to for next hurricane season and how long we leave her.
BTW, you are sailing in my dream place, its top of my bucket list but with a dog we may have make it a charter holiday rather than sail there ourselves. I really would love to do it in our boat though. Where are you from and have you ever met anyone cruising with pets? I'd be very interested then I can start on convincing Steve that that is where we should head.
Thank you for watching and your interesting comment 🥰⛵🐾
BTW, our dinghy is not as light as yours but we are super chuffed with it. The light Highfield was a little out of our price range but they are lovely.

@@SailingSVCordelia We are Australians (our families immigrated from UK 6 decades ago), based in Fremantle Western Australia. We worked and lived in Asia for a decade with pets and whilst there are quite a lot of folks doing this, bringing pets back into Australia is very challenging (and expensive). One way around this is where Ozzie folk take a 6-month sabbatical to UK/Europe then it becomes quite straight forward. After 25 years of bashing up and down the west coast (25knot sea breeze every afternoon), we decided to return to the tropics and have been in Thailand for the last 2 years. Next season we plan to sail Borneo and Kalimantan before heading down to Indonesia.

7:03 seen a few channels actually remove them slats and fit stainless mesh in it’s place, looks easy enough if you can keep the outta frames and just attach the mesh to the rear with screws then neatly bead it with silicone to stop any sharp edges..
and it actually looks really modern without being overly expensive or difficult, basically you have the timber and either a chrome type mesh, but also looks good in black mesh, (black is far less obvious while chrome is a real statement)

You two are so funny. Loved the Ep and yeah the stifling heat and humidity was what made us leave the Caribbean. Everyone says "but you're from Australia, isn't it very hot there?" Yes it is but where we're from the heat is dry. Over 40 degrees Celcius it's warm but much more bearable than a humid 30 degrees. We'd been in the Caribbean for only 11 months, in St Martin at the time, planning to head south to Grenada but the heat was getting us down so much that we decided to head north to the US instead. Apart from doing the daily basics we were achieving absolutely nothing as far as deep cleaning and organising much below deck or even above for that matter due to the heat not to mention the bloody mosquitoes. Sightseeing was another thing we had no desire for either cos of the constant sweating. I don't like being freezing cold either (I have a health condition that doesn't like cold) but at least you can get some layers of clothes on. But I must admit I didn't expect Europe to be humid. I was born and grew up in Slovakia and guess I either forgot what the climate was like or it didn't bother me when I was a kid although I do remember the summers getting hot and sticky.
Good job on cleaning the mould in that heat Annette......take my hat off to you. That stuff just pops up out of nowhere. Looking forward to the next vid.

    • @SailingSVCordelia
      @SailingSVCordelia  4 місяці тому

Having done most of the work in this heat and humidity I can understand why you made that decision to leave the Caribbean. We have spoken in length about how we are going to tackle the next couple of years in hurricane season, we definitely need to leave Cordelia and go back to the UK or Canada or even travelling somewhere else.
We were hoping to sort out our B1/B2 when we were in the UK but didn't have the time. We'd like to get that sorted so we can spend some decent time in the US, that would help with us going north for hurricane season. Its easier to warm up than to cool down.
Yes, the Med can still get quite humid but at least its only in short spurts.

    • @sailingladyaquitaine

You can still do it and be in the US next year for the hurricane season. You have heaps of time if you start slowly making your way north. We did ours in Nassau but I believe they can be done in Barbados. We couldn't go anywhere near Barbados because of our 3m draft. For you it might be more convenient than Nassau but take your time going through the Bahamas because it is so beautiful but again, with our draft we were very limited.

Leaving a boat in the tropics for hurricane/cyclone/typhoon season is always like this or many times even worse. Its one reason I prefer to sail out of the storm area. I would rather do two weeks sailing than two weeks cleaning mould. And thats not allowing for insect, rodent and even human intruders.

@@SailingSVCordelia many UA-camrs leave boats in the storm area for storm season, or even worse stay on board. As a cruiser and delivery skipper of 40 years experience I have seen this strategy go wrong so many times. At best it's alot of work as you have found out. As this Caribbean storm season has illustrated, the forecasting of tropical storms is very unreliable and any "safe" harbour which has more than a few boats sheltering will be unsafe in severe weather due to inadequate gear or inadequate practices. Just look at what happened in Cariacou this year.

@@SailingSVCordelia None of the islands is absolutely safe. Just because they haven't had a hurricane doesn't mean they won't get one. My personal preference is to go to Panama or the Chesapeake bay. Even Trinidad has had 10 deadly storms in the past. I remember talking to the late Don Street in the mid eighties who advocated for Bahia Honda as a safe hurricane hole. A couple of years later it was hit with the loss of I think 300+ boats. Don then decided that nowhere was safe and I agree with him. Luperon has some advocates, but I wouldn't even consider it. If a storm hit then it would be carnage. Panama is safe, Chesapeake Bay is safe.
