Hey, everybody. Today, by popular demand, we are talking about 602 recommendations from Hendron Racing Engines. If you're not familiar with Hendron Racing Engines, they are the biggest crate engine rebuilder in the country, so they work on a lot of these engines and they have a lot of great things to say.
Let's go ahead and kick it off and talk about ignition. They recommend running 34 degrees of engine timing set at 4,000 RPM with a locked-out distributor. If you try to boost your timing more than that, you will lose significant power when timed above the 34 degrees. With that ignition system, before running your engine, check and make sure that your magnetic pickup wires from your distributor are completely isolated from any other ignition source that carries amperage. The mag pickup wires coming from your ignition box to your distributor must be run completely separately from any other wires, and make sure the entire length of your mag pickup wires are run separate, and they do not cross over any other source of amperage. A distance of one inch is plenty enough.
If you're using an Hei distributor, which many of you do in 602s, they recommend locking out the advance curve as well. You must also have a minimum of number 10 wire as a positive power supply. They suggest using aftermarket modules and coils if it's legal to do so in your division.

If you have an NGK number you can also stock Denso plugs. They're the same company. Kinda the same setup where Motorcraft plugs being the same as Autolite. Tried them once... voltage
shot down the porcelain like a sheet of neon.... last time I've ever used them.

I am currently rebuilding a 602 (oil rings) for a street car, is there anything you would suggest changing? I have been told that the rings are set up for race fuel, what would you suggest?

how many "laps" on average before changing valve springs instead of checking spring tension?

For a 604, every 10 races (checking them after each race). For a 602, every 4 races (checking them after each race).

Hi there! We recommend the new break in oil by Daytona 1. Here is a link to our interview with creator Buck Parker explaining why it is so awesome. There is a link in the video's description that will take you strait to the product in our online store. Hope this helps! ua-cam.com/video/dkNu5vneGy4/v-deo.html
