  • It really should be getting a few essentials done first, but I can't resist a little 170km test drive in our latest purchase - this 1984 Porsche 928S.

    An S is the sweet spot for performance and simplicity.
    Economy is not bad if you mainly cruise. Even at 100km/hr it's OK. You gave it some welly in the hills , therefore 15mpg ;

    Really enjoyed the scenery, I rebuilt the engine on my 1984 S when living in Melbourne, the first real drive took me along the Black Spur where 80% of the road is in a left or right turn. Great weekend. I have now since returned to the UK and she came back with me. I will have to use her more this year though as last year only drove it to the MOT station and back (roadworthy for you Aussie's) as I purchased my wife a 996. 928 is more comfortable though.

    I have had my 1984 928s guards red/tan for 8 yrs now. Bought it with 59k and now has 77k miles. Great cruising car. Dont even need the stereo. My air conditioner works just fine, but keep it off and just lower the window about an inch or so. Battery around 14 but drops down around 12 if you use the air conditioner or flip the lights up. Btw, you are always getting a thumbs up and have people wanting you to flip up the lights. I always check the oil level coolant level and tire pressure before driving it. Tire pressure on most cars is 32 psi. Look in the owners manual. It is 36 psi. That might be why your ride is harder than you expected. Also you may want to check all of your fuses. The fuse box is a black wooden box in the passenger footwell and has the funky cylinder fuses. Car gets quite hot here in Texas but just lower the windows an inch or 2 and you are fine. Car gets really hot on the inside because you have all of that exposed glass that is also angled. Btw great review and i hope you are enjoying your 928. Just wanted to give another 928 shark owner some useful tips from my 8 yrs of ownership.

      Hi Frank, thanks for the suggestions. Glad you are enjoying your long term land-shark ownership. Main reason for the hard ride is the tyres are cheap, nasty, and 10 years old. They will be replaced shortly. And the ride height has been set to minimum at the front through the adjusters. That also has some effect on ride. Stay tuned to the channel, as I have a lot more technical content as the Grand Poobah of 928s goes into detail on my car. In case you haven't seen it, this one is "must see" for 928 owners. More coming! Keep on landsharking!

    It makes me miss my old 928 S4. Was my “everyday” car for about 8 years and a pleasure to drive. I don’t miss the constant upkeep, little niggles, and resultant bills though. Bruce is the Guru - he worked on my car many times. Hot tip I learned from him and experience….carry a bunch of fuses and spare relays for the fuel pumps. You’ll need them one day… Thanks for letting me re-live the pleasurable side of the 928!

    Totally enjoy my 928 S4 MY89 Guards Red. Have enjoyed it for around 12 years and approx 130,000kms during the time I have had. Not a daily driver and certainly not a garage queen. It gets driven and mostly on long distance (GT style) trips - Qld, Adelaide, Bathurst, Canberra, etc. A great car and one that always puts a smile on my face. Its a keeper for me and will likely get some Bruce attention at some stage in the future (am Melbourne-based). Enjoy the drive Stuart. Cheers Tony

      Yes, slack of me. We are after all a British colony full of suntanned, laid back convicts. If I lapse from metric (which I did in this video, talking about "miles", whatever they are) I should use imperial gallons not US gallons.

      They're both fantastic in their own way. I have to say, 6 in the back with a couple of high boost hair dryers is not as musical but addictive and savage.

    Stop it, your'e actually making me think of getting one, crossing over to the dark side of Porsche ownership. Talking of crap tyres, my first drive in the hills in my 944S2 the car spun around and backed into the vegetation. I missed all the trees and left the scene unscathed, a miracle. The problem with tyres that look good and only 4 years old that if they have been sitting they turn to crap.Have fun CHATTING to Bruce, try and keep the conversation on track haha (he is a great bloke).

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  Рік тому +2

      Glad you survived your spin! For the record, the crap "ZETA" brand tyres on my car are twelve years old and hard as nails. They will be replaced. Just got back from Bruce's. OMG. Andrew, you might change your mind once I start racking up the bills on essential work. I shot enough for 20 videos. Talk talk talk. Fascinating, but an editor's nightmare. Plenty of money to be spent, but overall he and Sean were impressed with the car. But there's no way to interrupt one of his long stories once he gets stared. Editing it all is going to take forever.

      @@inCARnationAustralia When I first got the 944S2 I rang Bruce for some information, the conversation ended up being about the history of Porsche 968CS in Australia which went for about an hour. fascinating stuff even though a bit off subject.
