King Sama Guardian and Lingering Will are both Terra. Guardian is his heart and Lingering Will is his lingering conscious, his will to defeat Xehanort.
Putting aside the fact that Xehanort played Terra like a kazoo (a fiddle is difficult to manipulate properly, and considering Terra is even more dense than a pound cake, it wasn't that hard, really), it makes you wonder if there are more like the Lingering Will. Just imagine it; empty suits of armor, devoid of heart, devoid of body. Just horrific suits of armor comprised of only the leftover mind of the keyblade wielder it once used. It could have been a neat third type of enemy for Sora and Co to face at random, since it wouldn't really be allied with either Org XIII or the Heartless. Just random enemies of the past that existed and still persist after the Keyblade War. Alas and alack.
This is quite possibly one of the most important fights in the entire series. Both fights agains Terranort, both as lingering will and as aqua, are what delayed Xehanort's plan long enough for Sora and Riku to grow up, become keyblade masters, and help stop Xehanort. Terra essentially managed to buy them about 12 years of extra time, otherwise Xehanort would have won when Sora and Riku were like 5, and far too young and ignorant to even know what was going on, let alone do anything to stop it. It was truly a decisive battle, because if Xehanort had defeated lingering will, he would have won. The fact that lingering will managed to delay his plans, (and Aqua delayed them even further by whooping the dude so hard he got amnesia), is really a lot more vital than people probably realize. Ventus's final battle is incredibly important for the same reason. He managed to prevent the successful forging of the X-blade. If he had lost to Vanitas, it would have been catastrophic
I like the fact that Both Ventus and Terra who were the targets of Xehanort's plans were paramount to delaying it but neither technically could do it on their own, needing Aqua's help. But in the process since Aqua tried to help both of them out in dealing with the X-Blade and Xehanort respectively, she too couldnt do it on her own either (as in 2 people needs help and she couldnt try to help both AND herself) and thus their entire struggle resulted in delaying Xehanort's win rather than actually winning
3:50 gives me goosebumps every single time i watch it. thinking about what is at stake, identifying with terra in that situation and when the best part of the song starts i see him run, getting hit and then he responds dancing with his keyblade. absolutely perfect.
The classic PSP game and system limitations couldn't handle the cape at all. It was added in as armor detail in the PS3 and PS4 remix versions of the game, since he had a cape in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix
in the original secret ending of kh2 thee was an secrete animation showing 3 key blade warriors in a key blade graveyard. they met in the middle of the grave yard to retrieve key blades as a mysterious figure approached them. this was the first glimpse of the story that takes place in birth by sleep. in this teaser video the warriors were all wearing capes. the lingering will boss fight in kh2 FINAL MIX featured one of those key blade warriors albeit taller and with a cape. later as birth by sleep was being developed they realized the cape render would be hard on the processor. so the capes were removed.
I feel that the Lingering Will fight against Sora was partly because of it's possibly still clouded mind, and he felt som connection to Sora. But also partly becuase he was aware of what was to transpire and wanted to test Sora's strength, and build a connection with him through combat.
I think it's because Sora is wielding a keyblade and it's not Riku ... LW know Terra bequeath Keyblade to Riku, but LW don't know where Sora got the Keyblade ... All LW know, Ventus and Aqua died in that Keyblade War ... And he know Terra killed Eraqus ... So who else Keyblade Wielder that possibly bequeath their Keyblade to Sora ? ... Xehanort ... LW think Sora is with Xehanort ... And only after Sora beating him, he sense Ventus inside Sora so LW become chill again and stop attacking Sora ...
I did not feel like that when I played, I just felt like it was a tough boss battle, since... still had my same command deck and stuff, now if it was like "here's a new command deck specifically for this fight that lets you wreck" then i'd agree
The way Kingdom Hearts closes itself with the clouds over Lingering Will.. as if it was God and was satisfied with the performance Terra put on for it.
7:27 “Alrighty then. Now it’s time to wait for a Brown-haired clone of Ventus, a talking white duck with magical abilities and a talking tall dog who’s silly so I can brutally murder them.”
But, instead, Lingering Will got brutally murdered trying to protect a time traveling Sora. If it wasn't for that, he would have given Xehanort another concussion.
Can we just take a moment to realise that Terras last thought before he was norted was coming to the realisation that the X-Blade had been completed and Ven and Aqua were probably dead? The last act he did before his demise was coming to the realisation that the only ones he had still left had just died by Xehanorts will. No wonder he was too angry to die. Also with Terras heart missing and only his mind remaining in his armor, is he technically the first Nobody ever?
lingering will is an extension of terra's remaining thoughts that were not scattered when terranort was divided into ansem and xemnas, after master xehanort returned those thoughts returned and thats how namine brought lingering will back in kh3. In no moment was terra divided into a heartless/nobody
I still think of this way: Terra -> possessed by Xehanort = Terranort Terranort -> stabbed himself with a keyblade = Ansem (heartless) + Xemnas (nobody) So I imagine Terra's nobody would look like Xemnas with Terra's brownish hair colour.
Just noticed a detail that honestly im surprised i never noticed before The lingering will didn’t say anything when attacking or casting spells. Well, it literally cant since it has no body in there but i just realized that enhances the feeling that Terra really is gone and all that remains is the rage and desire to defeat xehanort at all costs
That's why Lingering Will talking in Kingdom Hearts 3 is BOTH make me happy and disappointed ... I'm happy to finally hear Terra again ... But kinda disappointed because it ruined the "The armor is empty and all it know is beating Xehanort" thing ...
Actually it is possible Keyblades can transform into other Keyblades via Keychains forged from connections Terranort is part Terra, and from that connection forge a Keychain allowing No Name to transform into Terra’s Keyblade So in that instance Terranort uses Ultima Cannon, he transforms No Name into Ends of the Earth to use its weapon cannon form
I think Terranort use Terra's Earthshaker keychain to turn it into Ultima Cannon ... While Lingering Will using End of Earth keychain for his Ultima Cannon ...
Kingdom hearts was summoned by the forging of the X-Blade. When it was destroyed by the combined forces of Mickey, Aqua, and Ventus, it returned to darkness. Terra was right below from where it was summoned. So it makes sense it would dim on him.
That badass moment of triumph where Terra comes back as armor is really contrasted by the hopeless resignation at the end of the fight Such an amazing moment, god damn
Just like Fairy God Mother from Cinderella told Terra ... Don't stop dreaming even if there's nothing you can do anymore, only then miracle can come to you ... Despite losing Heart and Body, Terra still believe in his dream to protect Ventus and Aqua ... His dream what lead to the miracle that his Armor live on its own and carrying on his lingering will ...
When I played Birth By Sleep last year I didn't like it that much because it was made for PSP, but when I saw the ending where Terra (Lingering Will) has his cape and kneels down and then kingdom hearts appear above him with the music in the background then the scene darkened, I had goosebumps all over my body because my mind wasn't ready for an epic scene like this. In my opinion this is the best scene in the entire Series. 7:21
Now when I think about it, Terra might comeback in KH3 and sacrifice himself to save his friends. Perhaps not himself but his lingering will probably. There’s no way Nomura just simply made Terra “Aqua, Ven, One day... I will set this right” then nothing happens.
Even with Terra's younger, stronger, new body, Terra's Lingering Sentiment still managed to overcome Master Xehanort. Why do YOU think did terra-xehanort lose to lingering will?
In reality it’s a game In universe, Terranort is new and inexperienced, Which in that moment, Lingering Will’s Heart is stronger The Keyblade can weaponize the Heart into power, it’s why Sora won against impossibly strong opponents himself, so in that moment Lingering Will won
@@christophersanchez7731 Except... Lingering Will has no heart. Terranort's (and later Ansem's) Guardian is Terra's heart in Heartless form. Terranort's power comes from the combination of Terra's body (which is physically strong) and Xehanort's heart and mind (which give him superior magic casting ability.) Terra was always strongest when he was angry, and Lingering Will is no exception, being a manifestation of Terra's will because he was simply too angry and too strong-willed to just lose his heart to darkness.
“this heart belongs again to darkness, all worlds begin in darkness, and also end. the heart is no different, Darkness Sprouts within it-- it grows, consumes it, such is its nature” my most favorite Kingdom Hearts quote
I don't think anybody knows how hard this fight truly is. I'm looking for guides on how to beat him, because Xehanort is merciless here. He is constantly attacking, giving you very little room to fight back. You can't even be close to him, otherwise, you get pounded. So you have to keep your distance, and attack when the moment is right. I just can't figure out that right moment.
Y’know props to Terra. It’s all too common in fiction for people to be so stunned that they don’t react. Granted his idea of putting the armour on didn’t work but his reaction speed to try was on point
RIGHT! that needed more screen time especially since they let you play as Aqua against a Vanitas. They did a good job distracting me from wanting to be LW with that cutscene tho
This fight was supremely hard. The first time I played this game was on Proud mode I got to Terra Xehanort and lost multiple times. I lost so many times I hade to go to the Mirage Arena and level up from 23 to 47. That's right this battle was one of the hardest in the Story for me. A easier way to defeat Xehanort use the invisible spell and you'll be able to attack him without having to block and use counter hammer most of the battle. I did manage to defeat him on Critical, I mainly used invisible and ShotLock as much as I could.
Watching this and then him returning in kh3 with the piano version of Destiny's Union playing was quite possibly my favorite moment in the series so far.
Xehanort:I took a body to survive past the upcoming war. Mephiles:I manipulated a hedgehog into killing a hero. He failed, so I killed him myself. Let's be friends.
Is it weird that I'm frustrated because he could have easily ran away or jumped while Xehanort was monologuing? I know people will say something like "But he's high above a cliff", but considering Kingdom Heat acrobatics and that one scene where Vanitas ambushed Aqua from a jump off a cliff, I think Terra would have been perfectly fine to jump in order to distance himself from that "heart shot"
It's still confusing me, I mean Terra could probably just slide either to left or right to dodge Xehanort's heart, but what he did is trying to armor up to block Xehanort's heart? Wut?
Question I only JUST thought of that may have been posited many times before- when Xehanort releases his heart to possess Terra, shouldn't that have created a Nobody for Xehanort right then?
Nobody only created if the said person has a strong will to survive their body ... In BBS, Xehanort never have any glimpse of will to keep his body, because scraping that old body is his current objective anyway ... And Heartless only made from a heart that left the body and consumed by the darkness ... In BBS, the heart didn't stay outside for long enough, and Xehanort surely has a full control over darkness, so there's no way darkness could harm his heart unless he allowed it ...
okay sorry if Im dumb but without Terra's actual keyblade, is Terra-Nort really able to use his Keyblade Cannon? I mean I thought that thing was suppose to change from Ends of the Earth to the Cannon and multiple other equipment that we saw in II FM
Just recently finished his arc in my psp emulator on android, man his story kinda feels like a dark souls boss, being a soul trapped within his armor wielding his weapon against his original body. Edit: minor spelling mistake fix

Terra never gets any love. He is very misunderstood and stood up to protect ven and aqua. Can't wait for the trio to reunite once and for all again.
I can see why people don't like him but they completely ignore the problems that other characters do.
Yes, they need to be saved, the Wayfinder Trio are my favorites!
They are together now :)
Ahh the tears, seeing the trio to reunite again ... :' )
“Breaking news: Man literally too angry to die”
I like after he steals Terra's body he walks in the other direction away from the X-Blade.
the voice actor for terranort is fucking perfect.
The way he says, "You have lost". Its just perfect.
Indeed, Richard Epcar also voices Raiden from Mortal Kombat
3:50 gives me goosebumps every single time i watch it. thinking about what is at stake, identifying with terra in that situation and when the best part of the song starts i see him run, getting hit and then he responds dancing with his keyblade. absolutely perfect.
Something I've been wondering, why does a cape just randomly sprout out from Terra's armor?
The classic PSP game and system limitations couldn't handle the cape at all. It was added in as armor detail in the PS3 and PS4 remix versions of the game, since he had a cape in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix
What I mean was, was there any significance about the cape?
nope, just added detail to match with his appearance in Kingdom Hearts 2 final mix. That's all
in the original secret ending of kh2 thee was an secrete animation showing 3 key blade warriors in a key blade graveyard. they met in the middle of the grave yard to retrieve key blades as a mysterious figure approached them. this was the first glimpse of the story that takes place in birth by sleep. in this teaser video the warriors were all wearing capes. the lingering will boss fight in kh2 FINAL MIX featured one of those key blade warriors albeit taller and with a cape. later as birth by sleep was being developed they realized the cape render would be hard on the processor. so the capes were removed.
Nepgear Purplesister Sooo flowing hair, falling meteors, And Keyblade swings are fine but a cape is pushing it???? What the heck lol
That boss was hard as fuck in critical mode...
Yeah I know, I remember struggling to beat him on the PSP version of the game on critical mode
Nothing that Ragnarok couldnt fix 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is one of those moments in gaming where you BECOME the boss battle.
I did not feel like that when I played, I just felt like it was a tough boss battle, since... still had my same command deck and stuff, now if it was like "here's a new command deck specifically for this fight that lets you wreck" then i'd agree
BaconNuke it’s more of a feeling tbh
DMC 5 had that, too. Always fun.
The way Kingdom Hearts closes itself with the clouds over Lingering Will.. as if it was God and was satisfied with the performance Terra put on for it.
"One day...I...will...set...this...right
One day... I will set... this right...
I will return to this land
And protect my friends!"
7:27
“Alrighty then.
Lingering Will can sense Xehanort wants to turn Sora into another Xehanort. He is trying to pull a Eraqus.
@bill lamook Was that a Nier reference I spy?
lingering will is an extension of terra's remaining thoughts that were not scattered when terranort was divided into ansem and xemnas, after master xehanort returned those thoughts returned and thats how namine brought lingering will back in kh3. In no moment was terra divided into a heartless/nobody
idk, the nobody is the body of a person without the heart, lingering will is just that, some thoughts and memories
I still think of this way:
Terra -> possessed by Xehanort = Terranort
Terranort -> stabbed himself with a keyblade = Ansem (heartless) + Xemnas (nobody)
So I imagine Terra's nobody would look like Xemnas with Terra's brownish hair colour.
@@LakePlacidBear Well the guardian was terras heartless. So he should have a nobody
Just noticed a detail that honestly im surprised i never noticed before
The lingering will didn’t say anything when attacking or casting spells.
Anyone else notice that even thought Terra still has his keyblade in his hand, and Xehanort just summons it and uses the giant cannon on him. Logic.
Actually it is possible
Keyblades can transform into other Keyblades via Keychains forged from connections
Terranort is part Terra, and from that connection forge a Keychain allowing No Name to transform into Terra’s Keyblade
So in that instance Terranort uses Ultima Cannon, he transforms No Name into Ends of the Earth to use its weapon cannon form
I think Terranort use Terra's Earthshaker keychain to turn it into Ultima Cannon ...
While Lingering Will using End of Earth keychain for his Ultima Cannon ...
I made the grave mistake of going in on this at level 37 with crappy commands. Couldn't get two hits in lol
Hahahaha scrub I did this battle proud mode at level 29. Tried grinding but my ps4 failed me and data was lost
Make Renewal Block.
It's very useful
Lexi Aj renewal block and counter hammer are you friends in this fight
Lexi Aj i beat him at level 34 it just took so long to get his attack pattern down
[GD] Niiue renewal block ftw
Was it ever explained why Kingdom Hearts was shining down on Terra's Armor or why it suddenly stopped?
Amelia Kyle
The way I see it, it’s to represent how close, yet so far terra was in achieving his goals
Kingdom hearts was summoned by the forging of the X-Blade. When it was destroyed by the combined forces of Mickey, Aqua, and Ventus, it returned to darkness. Terra was right below from where it was summoned. So it makes sense it would dim on him.
That badass moment of triumph where Terra comes back as armor is really contrasted by the hopeless resignation at the end of the fight
Such an amazing moment, god damn
Terra dosent come back as Armour its just that xeonort took his body but not his will
Just like Fairy God Mother from Cinderella told Terra ...
*N O R T E D*
Aqua got norted! Noooo!
Hey, try and count how many time Terranort say Dark_ in this scene alone.

When you play as the Lingering Will, Its like ptsd but in a good way.
playing Birth by Sleep in the order;
Terra > Ventus > Aqua
was by far the best possible first experience I could've ever hoped for.
Mine was ventus aqua terra. It played better imo you always thought of terra turning bad like riku but shed light to him wehn you use him
1:46 *Darkness!* [Muahahahahahahaha, this body feels amazing!]
Emishimaru - Sama ok I believe you
x'D
X BLADE!!!
*darkness* [what's going on here]
Darkness [Oh my god its the Lingering Will. Time to beat you up good for the hard time you gave me in KH2]
Now when I think about it, Terra might comeback in KH3 and sacrifice himself to save his friends. Perhaps not himself but his lingering will probably. There’s no way Nomura just simply made Terra “Aqua, Ven, One day... I will set this right” then nothing happens.
The wayfinder's trio still haven't completed there mission. When xehanort is defeated they can finally know peace
After beating the shit out of Sora dozens of times, he whipped him into shape so he can successfully save the day. That's how he set it right.
Memesdid420 good stuff happen
Oh boi, do i have some news for you
Even with Terra's younger, stronger, new body, Terra's Lingering Sentiment still managed to overcome Master Xehanort.
Why do YOU think did terra-xehanort lose to lingering will?
@Ironbay Knight G finally someone who understands that
In reality it’s a game
In universe, Terranort is new and inexperienced, Which in that moment, Lingering Will’s Heart is stronger
The Keyblade can weaponize the Heart into power, it’s why Sora won against impossibly strong opponents himself, so in that moment Lingering Will won
@@christophersanchez7731 great truth
@@christophersanchez7731 Except... Lingering Will has no heart. Terranort's (and later Ansem's) Guardian is Terra's heart in Heartless form. Terranort's power comes from the combination of Terra's body (which is physically strong) and Xehanort's heart and mind (which give him superior magic casting ability.) Terra was always strongest when he was angry, and Lingering Will is no exception, being a manifestation of Terra's will because he was simply too angry and too strong-willed to just lose his heart to darkness.
@@christophersanchez7731 thats not true sora wins because second chance and damage syphon
“this heart belongs again to darkness, all worlds begin in darkness, and also end. the heart is no different, Darkness Sprouts within it-- it grows, consumes it, such is its nature”
my most favorite Kingdom Hearts quote
A year late, but you forgot the last part:
In the end, every heart returns to the darkness whence it came.
I remember it took me couple of tries to beat him.
After 10 years seeing Terra regain his body be like
*this shit is good man*
mepphy99 the OST goes good with the fight as well
Xehanort: your body yields, your heart succumbs, so why does your mind resist?
Terra (rising up): I will never lose to the darkness
I don't think anybody knows how hard this fight truly is. I'm looking for guides on how to beat him, because Xehanort is merciless here. He is constantly attacking, giving you very little room to fight back. You can't even be close to him, otherwise, you get pounded. So you have to keep your distance, and attack when the moment is right. I just can't figure out that right moment.
@DeeSmokez Gaming Oh, I beat him two hours after I posted this, but thanks for the tip.
2:38 The only proper answer to this question: *I'm just built different.*
Terra-Xehanort: Your body submits. Your heart succumbs. So why does your mind resist?!
Lingering Will: Because… I choose… to resist.
Best fight of KH. I took great patience and beat him in 30 minutes by pure defense alone and in my first try. Same with Aqua vs Terra-Xehanort.
2:38 so why do I hear boss music?
This fight was so good I'm just so glad and satisfied that in Kingdom Hearts 3 they finally got Tera back in his own body again
2:38 omg this quote lives in my head rent free
So how did it feel to be the lingering will? Lol
Why doesn't he just use his whip?
or his drums xD
that’s a stick man sham reference
Y’know props to Terra. It’s all too common in fiction for people to be so stunned that they don’t react. Granted his idea of putting the armour on didn’t work but his reaction speed to try was on point
Such a waste we didn't get to play LW in KH3 when he fought terranort again
James Anacleto fr that would of been my favorite battle hands down
RIGHT!
that needed more screen time especially since they let you play as Aqua against a Vanitas. They did a good job distracting me from wanting to be LW with that cutscene tho
We will I think.
God damit Nomura how many years before i can finally woke Ventus up, rescue Aqua(or whats left of her) and bring Terra back
Jiro Weiler
Well, seems like this year... Unless they save them for the new Saga... Which I doubt they will.
Nomura, you're too late.
29 January. So 6 months
"You're too late"
19 more days

Jeremy: Return to the past now!
Thanks for the advice. I was having trouble with this part. He is unnecessarily hard.
A boss its not memorable if It isnt hard.
Watching this and then him returning in kh3 with the piano version of Destiny's Union playing was quite possibly my favorite moment in the series so far.
When your wondering why terra didn't just dodge instead of using his armor to defend himself
Master Assassin now I’m just imagining Terra frantically running in circles with Xehanort’s heart drifting behind him
@@lilacmoon6 Then he runs behind Xehanort. Making his heart go back inside.
Looks like the heart would only home on him, it was happening so fast, it was Terra’s reflex reaction anyway
After getting thoroughly stomped by this boss in KH2.5, getting to play as it was so satisfying.
Xehanort *steals terra's body*
*Armour starts coming together *
Xehanort : the fuck
Terra : you ain't running from these hands
Xehanort and Mephiles should hang out sometime.
You cracked me.
Nice one XD
Xehanort:I took a body to survive past the upcoming war.
Mephiles:I manipulated a hedgehog into killing a hero. He failed, so I killed him myself. Let's be friends.
With plapatine n Voldemort
Also orochimaru
"Your body submits, your heart succumbs, so why does your mind resist!?"
kino
0:07 voice actor actually sounded out of breathe
That was the late Leonard Nimoy. He really nailed Xehanort in BBS.
That ending tho
I wish we could use those cool moves he does on KH2 FM
He'd be seriously overpowered lol
It takes a game series like Kingdom Hearts to make the hardest boss fight in the franchise, only to let you play as it years later.
Lingering Will: So, this is how I got my cape.
Sora: Why do you need a cape? You are bodyless armour!
Plot Twist : The player is terranort
and you play as the boss
The hardest Fights ever. i'd be surprised if anybody beat these Stories
Wut?
Guess he was too scared and felt like he needed to protect himself instead of dodging.
Remember Terra's slow movement?
Yeah, I think that was the problem lol.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I wouldn't mind if an old guy possessed my body if I became a bad ass suit of armor
Quite the ending..
So..
Truly special
Am I the only one who was bothered that Terra-Xehanort and Master Xehanort were considered two different people in Kingdom Hearts III?
Time travel nonsense, Xehanort posessing multiple people, ect...
Question I only JUST thought of that may have been posited many times before- when Xehanort releases his heart to possess Terra, shouldn't that have created a Nobody for Xehanort right then?
Well if you watch the secret ending, he kinda mentions that he has one.
I just realized. Terra has a keyblade with an eye in it too. So was there another person why watched everything like the other one?
okay sorry if Im dumb but without Terra's actual keyblade, is Terra-Nort really able to use his Keyblade Cannon? I mean I thought that thing was suppose to change from Ends of the Earth to the Cannon and multiple other equipment that we saw in II FM
Literally top 10 Anime Final Battles
Just recently finished his arc in my psp emulator on android, man his story kinda feels like a dark souls boss, being a soul trapped within his armor wielding his weapon against his original body.
Edit: minor spelling mistake fix
Everybody has corrupted into Darkness.
Like I said, Darkness is everywhere.
Rage Awakens theme begins 🎻🎶
*INFORMATION:* "Defeat Xehanort and take back your body!"
Epic! Absolutely epic!
"hey man, this guy is evil and stole your body, fuck him up and you get a baller cape"
I suddenly have a desire to play... Xenosaga. Xehanort's voice actor, Richard Epcar, uses the same voice for Ziggy in Xenosaga.
Bruh when I fought Nort dog on critical he was using cure like it grew on trees
2:38 When Your Sleepy at 2:00Am but you don't wanna go to Sleep:
When you realized that Terranort had pointy ears like Master Xehanort in this game, while in KH3 he doesn't.
