That is the coolest padlock I've ever seen in my entire life and I really enjoyed watching that restoration video! I love all your videos very happy I subscribed, now where can I get a lock like that??
It's not a novelty lock just a primitive design. These were known as smokehouse locks. You're right about it being pretty useless security wise but these style of locks definitely weren't made as novelty items.
@@matthewhopkins666 Well yeah, it's a reproduction that serves no practical purpose in this day and age and therefore has no value beyond being ornamental and visually pleasing.
@@Thematt11 It is identically functional with an original, the design of these locks was not designed to be ornamental. We clearly have different ideas of what makes a novelty item a novelty item. I consider something that was designed as a novelty at it's inception to be a novelty item. This style of lock was designed as a functional item not a novelty item.
Mmmmm, I quickly googled it to compare, yes color matches, but this padlock's star has the sides slightly round while St. Cruz Sheriff's one has straight angles, but yes, I think you are still right to suppose it was inspired in a Sheriff's badge!! 🤔🤔🤯
That really drives me nuts when they do that too!! If I've just bought something brand new I want it to look brand new. If I've bought something to restore, I may polish it up to look nice and give it a handsome paint job, but I want it to LOOK like it's something that's been restored, warts and all. The paint job might be new, but the pitting adds character! PS - nice job on the restoration!
What type of metal is soft enough to hammer like that, to form a seal to hold parts together? I'd like to try restoring things sometime but that part has me wondering.
Great is still was working when you got it but wow that key is thin and looks easy to bend! Looks great!! I like the lock !! Did you cold blue it?? I was going to say it would look great with the dark metal and the bright brass Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
I have a question. Of all the restorations you do, do they all work our od do some fail due to the material being to old or the materials being to brittle or something like that?
Interesting lock. Never saw one like that. Did you oil it or just leave it dry? I think I would have filled in the pitted parts and painted it… but, that’s just me!
How do I contact you? I am interested in talking with you about a restoration project of an old antique riding horse made in England, I can’t find any contact info anywhere and would really like to be able to chat with you if possible.
Bad blueing, you need to smoothen surface before blueing, and after it soak in vegetable oil. You can do better. Add more shine and you deserve for thumb
You are 60% Craftsman, and 40% magician! Great job!
I can honestly say in all my years in the locksmithing industry I have never seen a lock like that. Nice restoration ;)
Ой , какой милый замок с ключом . Такой волшебный , сказочный
It’s SO beautiful when your finished. Lovely work.
Cool lock. Unbelievably simple.
Such a good restoration that I watched twice!!
Wow,amazing work. I love watching someone restore things. I wish I had the knowledge for that. This is awesome.

Спасибо за видео.
I do like the double action of this lock, reminds me of Japanese puzzle boxes, one action leads to the next. Thanks for sharing 😁👍🇨🇱🇺🇸
That lock was swimming in rust. Well done.👍

Wow , this was a detailed job , pleasure to see you work.
I love the double key and dual-lever setup. That lock must be a bastard to pick.
Very nice and beautiful 😍😍😍😍

Curious key. Nice work.
Amazing video 👍
Great stuff 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ahhhh you did soak in WD !!
Tout simplement superbe
That has got to be the coolest lock I have ever seen. Is there any history behind it?
Nice restoration, take no notice of the “experts”.
i loved your work
Nice restore. Novelty locks are always quite interesting as ornaments about the house. I wouldn't trust it to secure a tin of biscuits though...

Ficou perfeito. Saudações do Brasil.
That's a cool lock. Makes me wonder who made it.

Excelente trabajo me gustó que quedará rústico y con piezas pulidas. Saludos desde Venezuela ciudad de Maracaibo. Suscrito y likes.

Great job buddy looks like new .
Very nice project, I have never seen a lock like this before! videos like this inspired me to start on youtube too!
That's awesome, UA-cam is a great opportunity to create what you're passionate about.
Buddy you did excellent work, as always, I really like the result 👍
I'm glad you're enjoying it. I've been putting in a lot of work. By the way your Rusty shoemaker hammer is pretty impressive too.
I was thinking of the 7-sided star, of course! In the very way, this ancient padlock is designed/structured.
8 sided!! 😋
@@pazuzu1072 It's WHAT I WAS thinking. That's the shape and color of the Santa Cruz County CA Sheriff's badge. The gold 7-sided star.
Mmmmm, I quickly googled it to compare, yes color matches, but this padlock's star has the sides slightly round while St. Cruz Sheriff's one has straight angles, but yes, I think you are still right to suppose it was inspired in a Sheriff's badge!! 🤔🤔🤯
Wowsers =) any idea on how old this lock is??
godjob!
good work friend 👏🏻👏🏻🇧🇷

Muy buen trabajo, ahora todos los resortes estarán muy seguros 🇵🇪
I like this restoration because you gave a new life to that lock without making it shiny perfect with zero pit as other channels do.
Thanks, some people don't like it when I leave the pits. I think it keeps the character.

NICE
What goods a lock you tapped broken with a hammer,,,, guarantee no ones breaking it open now 🤘😀
Beleza ..sabe tudo rs
looks like davy jones' chest's lock mechanism had some merit after all.
My favorite part is when he taps out the old nails and screws.
Great is still was working when you got it but wow that key is thin and looks easy to bend!

I have a question. Of all the restorations you do, do they all work our od do some fail due to the material being to old or the materials being to brittle or something like that?
I have a box full of items that failed. As I get more experience, I'm hoping I can fix them one day. Also, I'm hoping the box doesn't get much bigger.

Dayummmm.. it's that easy to open it? Why even have a key?? Awesome job btw..
Good video!!! Watch here! 🔥
Vou adicionar o cromar e zincar à minha lista de atualização!
Shows just how much you can do with not very many tools at all...
How do you keep all those little pieces in order?? I'd forget where they go and which one is which the second I took them off the lock
This one wasn't as bad as the fishing reel. That one taught me how to keep a system with all the parts.
Show 👏👏👏
Thanks Marcello!!!
Craftsman!!
Muito bom gostei !
That lock looks similar to the NYPD shield.
Perhaps a gift for a cop?
Any idea as to when that lock was manufactured?
Who makes that lock how old is it that’s extremely unique and I wouldn’t mind owning one
Another rare item saved...

You should really invest in a glass bead agitator. Better than the Dremel, easier, quicker and you're not breathing in rust
Slowly but surely. I just invested in a sand blasted. As the channel grows I’ll be reinvesting.
That is a very strange lock...Also, it is me, or it really looks like a police badge, especially after the (Wunderschön) restoration?
I thought the same thing when I first saw it.
