    Hi Jesse, thank you for showing this great piece of gear. I also use the kelly kettles outdoors because they are so simple and efficient. I use the trekker model when I am for my own and the base camp version at home as a backup for example for a blackout or in a larger camp. This is an awesome good stuff! Thank you for showing it and all the best from 🇦🇹 🤠 👍

    The first time I used mine, a couple of months ago, I put my White Box alcohol stove inside as the National Forest fire restrictions wouldn't allow wood burning. I was impressed. I was also car camping so weight/bulk of the Scout were not issues. Good video, thank you.

    Another nice video, Jess. I first started using the KK about 10 or 12 years ago. My first one (base camp) was stolen, and I really missed it. Now I also use a Trekker; it's just big enough for my use and doesn't take up quite as much pack space. The hobo stove component really boosts its utility. I did, however, replace the cook kit with a Stanley 2-bowl cookpot set (I leave out one bowl for solo camping).

    Kelly Kettle is a lifesaver. Bulletproof. I always think of making hooch in it⛽️😂😂😂😂

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 роки тому +1

      😂 That hasn’t crossed my mind, but now the seed has been planted lol. Bulletproof yes, but interestingly they had to change from a solid stopper (which would be ideal IMO) to the whistle, as folks were boiling with the cork in and getting explosive results. Live and learn...
      Cheers brother

    Good watch, thanks. Noted on the use of small fuel sticks once the fire get organized so once the kettle is lifted no timbers fall out of the interface zone, seems backwards in terms of building a fire but I get-it. Still waiting for my base camp in transit. - N Idaho -

    My main issue with my Kelly Kettle Trekker is its volume. A wood gasifier stove nestled in a pot is about half the size and takes much space in my pack.
    It is a good piece of kit though. Very fast for boiling water and also quite stealthy.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 роки тому

      Good insights. It does take up some space. For the size/weight, I think one of the larger models would be better suited for most folks camping with friends or family. For the individual, a small gasifier type has a lot to like.

    Always appreciate. I may pull the trigger. I see they have aluminum option for weight I guess, however it’s 2022 and time for Kelly family to have titanium model. Almost 1/2 the weight. IMHO 😂.

    • @ahabstar
      @ahabstar 2 роки тому +2

      Years and years ago they didn’t do the stove base and it was just the kettle. First add on I saw was two piece cross on top for holding a pot similar to a trianga stove setup.
      Seeing the green whistle cap is new to me as I seem to recall an old cork one 30 some years ago that a Great Uncle had.
      I have always been torn on this bit of kit. I like it and I want it but I don’t want to carry it and only see limited use for the weight and space. Because I refuse to use it to purify drinking water due to too many crevasses where bacteria could hide.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks brother. Its pretty slick bit of kit. You can cook over the top with the pot holder I used on the base plate. I like keeping the center of gravity a little lower personally. Have a great weekend!

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 роки тому +1

      Interesting history on the evolution of the design. I couldn’t imagine it without the base plate. The whistle cap is definitely a recent mod. It sounded like people were using the kettle with the cork in and having disastrous results. I wouldn’t worry about bacteria so much. The fire will neutralize any issues there. That being said, using a good water filter to remove other contaminants is probably a good idea in most instances.

      @@ahabstar you could always put a bit of bleach water in it every once in a while. Let it sit and then pour it out . The residual chlorine evaporates

      Idk. I have an old cheap Chinese lockblade knife that you could hand disable it is so worthless. Places used to put them 4 for a dollar by the register. Has everything I hate: half-serrated/half-straight, nylon plastic handle…the works. I use that thing 99% of the time to cut a box or even plastic clamshell so as to “not mess up a good knife.”
      We all have quirks. I do love it. But for whatever reason just can’t pull the trigger. Stuck on the canteen, cup and lid for the versatility I guess. But for camping or a more permanent shelter, it would be aces.

      @@georgerector9252 The kettle is $72. It can easily be adapted for cooking just as is with a little creativity using something like tent stakes or sticks to hold up whatever you are cooking in above baseplate.
