    Who are we?
We're Eamon and Bec, a Canadian couple who previously lived and traveled full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! When the pandemic hit earlier this year we made the difficult decision to abandon our van in Africa and fly home to Canada. Now we're here... living at a cabin in the Canadian wilderness. We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international travels. We cannot wait to have a place to call our own!!
Our goal here is to inspire you to chase after your own dreams! We hope to create a community of like-minded, positive individuals who will grow to love and support one another on their own journeys.

The pupper is doing his best to protect you, so nothing will get rid of that behaviour. I've struggled with my dog for years, and found that the only thing that helps is talking calmly to her and saying stuff like "it's alright, they're allowed to be there" and "thanks for letting me know, i see them, good girl, you can stop now". She's really well trained and knows what these things mean, it definitely doesn't work 100% of the time but it has made a huge difference. Sometimes when she's barking at strangers approaching, just letting her know that I see them is enough for her to stop, most of the times the barking is just to alert you that someone is there. Just telling a dog "no, stop" isn't always helpful, let them know what you want them to be doing instead of telling them what you don't want, for example "come here" or "sit/lay down". Don't forget praise for any little improvement, even if it is just them not launching but still barking. Hope this helps someone struggling with their protective dog, best of luck!

Our last dog had a lot of anxieties, and it was a combination of minimizing exposure where dangerous And desensitizing. I think he did great with the other pups!

@@eamonandbec I train GSD’s and the best tip I ever received from a trainer is that not every dog needs to be a ‘mingler’ or even be ‘friendly’ for that matter. They are all different and some just don’t like other people or other dogs and it’s not the end of the world. Your role as the humans is to take precautions to not put him in situations that trigger him, that’s all. Just give him a separate space to be on his own, somewhere he feels safe when others are around. Honestly its not that big a deal to him to not be in the big mix but instead just relax away from the action. I’ve had a GSD just like this and imo all the negative feelings around their ‘non-mingler nature’, those feelings live in our heads not theirs. You guys are amazing humans in his life so try not to get too sad or frustrated or beat yourselves up, he’s ok. Better than that he’s living his best super life bc of you two, big up’s! 🙌

My rescue dog was also agressive when I first got her. Her reaction to people was to attack first and ask questions later! ...lol.. no fun for sure. However, over the years as her confidence grew and her feeling safe with me, this issue totally disappeared. I think the best thing I ever did, was to go to dog training lessons with her, it built up my confidence and it was a lot of fun, for both of us and it helped dog and me to connect on a much deeper level. She became the dog I always dreamed she'd be.

We had a Doberman and they are a fantastic breed but their mind never shuts down, they are always looking out for you and your property, which is why they make such great guard dogs. When he meets people they need to ignore him, don't look at him or pet him, a lot of this behaviour is attention, so once he calms down, then the guest can pet him and interact with him. Also, I really doubt that he is 11 years old, this breed doesn't typically live that long and when they are older, they are typically rather grey and much slower than Mossa is. Also consider a training collar, the do work with assertive breeds. We didn't have a shock collar, we used a citronella spray one that was amazing. Dobermans are the best breed!

Thank you for fostering, it makes such a huge impact.
So many people don’t understand how important fostering is, it is crucial for the development of animals that need extra time for training, socialising, rehabilitation and to get comfortable. The point of fostering is to help them find their forever homes. I have fostered so many animals that didn’t have a chance in a shelter environment and they’re all living in long loving homes with their perfect parents, even when it’s sad to see them go, it is 100000% worth it!

Thank goodness he's being fixed, I was really wondering about that! I've never heard of a foster dog not being neutered, I know with my pets that has really helped with aggression. Hope Moose has a speedy recovery and please share the good and the bad! Animals are a life commitment and life has pros and cons for everything.

We were rescue coordinators and a foster home for 7 years. One of the things we learned about neutering was that it takes about a month (or 2 depending on the size of dog) for those hormones to subside. We watched several vigilant, guarding/aggression behavior, dogs calm down after their neuters. We would recommend giving Mossa a good 6 weeks for healing/settling with his surgery.
It is extremely stressful to have an intact male acting on all the drive those hormones produce. It can be nerve wracking when you don’t know that it takes time to see the “less stressed” personality emerge. Even at 11, getting him neutered is a wonderfully kind thing in his best interest. Good on you both for giving him a chance. 👍🏻👍🏻

Hey - the PC Blue Label Organics Steel Cut oats are great, I use them every day (along with the same blueberries you have). Burner to 5, I use 1.25 cup water to 1/3 cup oats. Cover the water with a lid for ~6 minutes, water should be boiling, remove lid, add oats & wooden spoon, reduce heat to 2, set timer for 20 minutes. Come back, dump a handful of nuts in, frozen blueberries, maybe some sliced banana,. set timer for 6 minutes. Come back, mix in protein powder if desired, dump in bowl and add peanut butter.

We make iglos when it snows... I freeze water in a round silicone pie form to make ice windows. Then build them into the side of the iglo when the iglo is finished. They are great because then you have natural light in the iglo.
If the snow is to cold is is hard to build because it turns to powder.. But if you compress, water spray and leave the bricks overnight you can usually use them ok.

Idk who else was crying with you when you got told about Mossa but being an animal lover, I was crying and had to pause the video just in case it came out bad. Im so happy that he is doing amazing. Like him Im an oldie too lol. I have never done the plunge before and now I never will after watching y'all do it lmao. Im crazy but not that crazy :) The cabin is coming along beautifully. I can't wait to see how your cabin turns out. I know it will be amazing and even more of a home than one you didn't have to do anything in. Taking it and making it the way you imagine it to look like is what makes it a home coz of all the love that goes into it. Well y'all, take care, have fun and stay safe.
