    Nice fix for the loose tenons matching the curvature of the leg to the stretchers, The dining table sounds like a great project to document. If the legs are turned round and tenons cut in rails. skirts to match mortices in legs a quick video on fitting those would interesting.

    That was a really nice idea, using the rasp after the saw, to flatten the part! I would have tried it with a chisel. Much more risky :)

    Like another person, your method of using a rasp is better than my old method of using a chisel or saw is sized permitted. I've learned a lot from you over the few years I have been wood working. As far as the table goes, yes I would like to see you build it IF you aren't in a crunch for time to meet your deadline. Thank you.

    My first thought was to run a leg proxy with a low grit sand paper wrapped around it... But your way looks WAY more accurate. I'm a beginner and here because I guessed the method, first, then watched to see if I was right. I'm glad I wasn't!

    What about wrapping PSA sandpaper to the spindle leg while on the lathe and pushing the stretcher into it to get that shape? Although the hand tool method is much more impressive.

  • @rickreed123
    @rickreed123 4 роки тому +1

    Maybe a compromise and just make an overview video of the table and any extra tricky aspects to it you had to solve like the stretcher to round leg connection. Thanks for all the great content.

  • @JimPepperTactical
    @JimPepperTactical 4 роки тому

    Thanks for sharing. Don’t you have to account for the lesser distance between the legs now? IF the width is critical

    • @ChadStanton
      @ChadStanton  4 роки тому

      Yes if it's really critical it might be. In my case, it's probably just slightly over a 1/16" less in width now.

    Another nice and helpful video Chad! Thank you. And of course we would love u to film that modern dining table you are currently working on. We would definitely learn more on your proper methods and techniques on how to build it. The rounded legs with angles are challenging enough its already worth watching! Thanks Chad for keeping on dancin for your viewers and subscribers.

  • @brucewelty7684
    @brucewelty7684 4 роки тому

    I like your solution. My problem would be four different recesses cut, getting the stretchers to seat properly would drive me nuts. How did you maintain an exact set of depths?

    • @rickreed123
      @rickreed123 4 роки тому

      I was thinking one could make a jig that attaches to the leg that provides a flat reference surface, so a router plane could be used to insure flatness and make the consistent depth.

    How did I know you would choose Option 2 LOL. Production comes first, but you could always just 'Build' and film. No voice or fancy camera angles. That way, you get some time efficiency and we can look over your shoulder and pick up tips as you go :)

    Easier and faster way: Use drill press and hole saw cutter to those horisontal woods to match the legs. Hole saw cutter's diameter same as the leg.

    • @ChadStanton
      @ChadStanton  4 роки тому

      The leg tapers. So the top of the stretcher (and apron) would be slightly different than the bottom of the stretcher. Would the hole saw trick still work? Do you have a video of it? I'm having trouble envisions the process.
