As an aside, I just realized just how good these videos are for you and your family - I can't believe how much your kids have grown! I'm a teacher and have my own boy, but it still amazes me how fast time passes.
Thanks for this series. I may get in to the Fuji system myself, and continue to use my Olympus gear for long lens wildlife/birds. Really, really good to see you back on YT.
I never saw the value in short range zooms and I don’t see it especially in this camera where you can crop in insanely. I would invest in quality primes for this body, since that’s what you’re getting this camera for... I’m planning to start with the 45mm f2.8 which is a good all rounder, then I’ll move to 250mm f4, cause I love the simplicity of isolated objects and last one I will go with the 18mm for my wides. Those three would take me a long way... But I’m a hobbyist and not a professional photographer, so maybe those zooms are required...? Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!
I wonder if you could describe what led you to the GFX-100 over other file formats given that all of them have advantages and disadvantages over the others. In particular, I wonder what led you to pick this format over full frame given that FF isn't that much smaller, but offers a much wider array of cameras and lenses? On the flip side, larger medium formats than the GFX offer larger sensors, but also more bulk and cost. Obviously, there is no right or wrong answer, but I am curious if you can say more about how you got to this "sweet spot". Thanks.
Hi Joseph...thanks for these videos! I got my GFX100S on the 10th of March, and am absolutely blown away with the image quality!! I just sold all my Sony gear to transition to this Fuji system and couldn’t be happier. I teach high school photography for a living, but also do landscapes, travel and portraits on a freelance basis. Like you, I bought this camera for the image quality. I have an Epson 64 inch printer and make huge prints, and this camera will provide me with incredible files for large prints. I went with the 23mm and the 45-100mm lenses, but now looking for a good portrait lens...torn between the 110mm f/2 and the 80mm f/1.7....can’t find any reviews comparing the two lenses...did you consider the 80mm, and if so, why did you decide on the 110 instead?
Hi Scotty, very cool that you’re a teacher. I 100% believe it was a formative moment in my life when on my first day in a darkroom as a HS freshman I saw my prints develop for the first time. I had a 40in wide Epson for years but eventually went to a lab because I hated mounting them for delivery to clients. On the 110mm, I study my LR data from time to time to see what focal lengths I seem to gravitate toward and that FOV was where I seem to live a lot. Also paired with the 32-64 it covers a bit more ground. I do think the 80 is very compelling and it’s on my list for the future. Cheers!
Hi Sir, How you compare Fujifilm gfx 100s to Hasselblad xcd II 50 C? The best and the worst of them. I planned to buy one but still hesitate between the two.
Two questions remaining: during weddings and/orin concerts and performances: can you use the silent electronic shutter? In another video one of your colleagues said that the readout of this electronic butter is so slow that you may get visible distortion even though you are not moving the camera. Have you tested out the high-iso capabilities yet? I am a stage/theatre/opera/ ballet-photographer, and with aps-c doesn‘t allow me to go beyond 6400. now I have seen relatively clean images with 12800? which I may need since I need to rely on lenses, zoom that offer an opening of 5,6 only. Thanks for your info and help Christian
Great questions, I haven’t done much with the eshutter yet. I’ll give it some testing and we’ll see if there’s any issues. High ISO comparisons are coming too.
@@JosephEllisPhotographer thxs. It is quite important for my work since I am using electronic shutter most of the time during rehearsals. So far it only makes life difficult, if theatres and opera houses are using led-lights that cause huge banding problems. Fortunately, fuji‘s mechanical shutter is relatively quiet, but the distortion of straight lines in straight still life photography I saw in one picture was stunning
Great series, the GFX is a great camera whose potential I could rarely use. I wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable with this incredible resolution in my picture, I would have to "soften" this afterwards....
Hi Joe. Thanks for the video. How did the IBIS function for you, especially for those low angle shots in the tulip farm? I want to use the GFX 100 S for garden photography and most of my shooting will be hand held.. I’m a little worried that camera shake might be more pronounced with the larger, higher mp sensor. What are your thoughts about this?
Good video, thank you. But I think you should have told us which Phase One digital back you are comparing it with. Because obviously the quality of of the images you get from Phase will be different based on which digital back you are using.
Only compared to my Phase One IQ160 which I spoke about in a previous video. Sorry for that confusion, definitely not a blanket statement about all Phase cameras.
Joseph I just bought the GFX 100s along with the 45 2.8 and the WOW 80 1.7. My other cameras are all Olympus and the latest EM1 MIII. I shoot weddings and a lot of portrait photography. ThE BIGGEST frustration with the GFX 100s is not really the focusing ability But the EXPOSURE COMPENSATION. With my Olympus M4/3rd cameras the Exposure compensation is on the front or back Wheel and is smooth as silk. On the 100S you have to push a tiny button by the the shutter and turn the wheel (Which is a Pain) and if you dedicate it on the back wheel it is A total Pain You have to push hard and rotate and half the time it does not work.. Is there a work around that is better .... OMD Olympus should make a MF camera

Very fun video of you and the family! Thanks for the Q&A.

Very informative ....

The Fuji GFX is the perfect companion with m43 and Olympus.
Wonderful family.

Hello Joe, how does it feel carrying the camera around with you for whole day does weight of the camera is little heavy?
Great series, the GFX is a great camera whose potential I could rarely use. I wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable with this incredible resolution in my picture, I would have to "soften" this afterwards....

Videographers actually prefer a heavier camera as they are less susceptible to microjitters.
Good video, thank you. But I think you should have told us which Phase One digital back you are comparing it with. Because obviously the quality of of the images you get from Phase will be different based on which digital back you are using.
Great video- cool fam!
How can one make these statements, GFX100 image quality being way better than Phase One ?
Only compared to my Phase One IQ160 which I spoke about in a previous video. Sorry for that confusion, definitely not a blanket statement about all Phase cameras.

Well the GFX and the OMDs are technically all 4/3 ratio sensors, sounds good to me.
No word about AF.
