  • DIY video on how to Lower a Mercedes S550 with Airmatic using washers and modifying rear bracket. If you have washers around your garage or tool box, you can give your Mercedes mild drop. The modification will minimize wheel gap anywhere from .5 to .8
    if you have aftermarket wheels and OEM it will give your vehicle a more aggressive look.
    L Notes:
    Rule of thumb To lower Mercedes
    Front suspension
    * When lengthening the front links the car Lowers
    Rear suspension
    * When shortened the Rear links the car will Lower
    The Front and Rear adjustments work opposite directions to lower the vehicle.
    (This video and mod was done on a w221 with airmatic model with 3 links total 2 in front and 1 in the rear. The rear bracket can be adjusted to lower vehicle.
    For Mercedes models with ABC /4 independent links , you will need lowering links because the rears cannot be shortened because of the design of links.)

    Dude…… I added 3 washers to my 2006 CLS and love it. I have an after market module that I can change the ride heights in a flash. My car is lowered at 0 miles an hour but then raises up a 1 1/2” at 9mph. So badass. Thank you so much. Way easier than replacing the links

    so imma say this.... if your fastener doesn't allow the bolt to come through the fastener and just sits on top of the bolt with no threads exposed , youre gonna have a catastrophic collapse of the air struts but go ahed and look cool til the thousands of dollars of repair hit that pocket.... sketchy as hell to be doing on a benz....

    I’ve lowered mine using OEM diagnostics. I used to work at Mercedes. You can get into the airmatic module and recaliabrate the ride height to the lowest allowed setting. The vehicle will still raise to full height with the raise button in the cabin for moments you need to clear big dips and bumps.

      Yes I have also recently used with my diagnostic scanner with my links to lower exactly how I wanted . Works great!

      I know I'm really late asking here, but what model do you have, that you were able to do that with? One of the Mercs I own, is a 2013 S65 AMG, is that something I can do with that car?

    • @GonZaWoRx
      @GonZaWoRx  3 роки тому

      I have to check but if I recall it was three quarters not anything drastic. If you want lower I would suggest lowering links. I have them on mine. Lowering module would also be great but more pricey.

    Any changes in ride comfort with this half inch drop

    • @GonZaWoRx
      @GonZaWoRx  3 роки тому

      I didn’t feel any difference with half inch. The airmatic just makes ride smooth. Even with lowering more with the links maybe a little , but these cars just float.
      It’s more of different driving habits when you approach bumps or curbs, because the car so long. Mainly the rims you feel difference and front bumper when start lowering more than 1inch.

    Did you have to do wheelaignment or was it okey?

    • @GonZaWoRx
      @GonZaWoRx  3 роки тому

      No your fine without alignment. The Mercedes air and abc suspensions constantly adjust up and down nornally
      Unless your removing suspension components or dropping it really low to point you have camber then it’s always good to do alignment.

      @@GonZaWoRx thank you🙏🏻.. does it harm the suspension or is it bad for the struts if you lower it with washers?

    • @GonZaWoRx
      @GonZaWoRx  3 роки тому

      @@LONELYcheeseBOX
      The modification is pretty minimal as far as lowering goes. It’s when you try to over do it and add more washers than shown or adjust rear bracket to drop very low is when things can get damaged.
      I think if you want to go low inch and over you should get links or module.

    • @GonZaWoRx
      @GonZaWoRx  3 роки тому

      @@LONELYcheeseBOX you have the same model car or different model? Also the thickness of the washers also makes difference. Make sure car is on flat even surface and install washers first on then cycle your air suspension button 2-3 times after for it to settle even height.

    What size and thickness of the washers do you use though ???

    • @GonZaWoRx
      @GonZaWoRx  3 роки тому

      I believe they are 1/4 washers 5-6mm thick. Just make sure the hole is large enough for bolt to go thru but small enough area for the nut to tighten down. 5-6mm will roughly drop 20mm. Some cars may vary , but gives you idea

    That's just stupid.. With star or other coding device you can lower it just where you want it. I have the same car and i have coding app in my phone and i can adjust the suspension so much lower about in 10mins..
