Harder ... Faster is the eighth studio album by Canadian rock band April Wine, released in 1979
First time I heard this version, and wow. Shame on my local radio stations for never playing this when it came out.
KSHE 95 in STL used to play this version once in awhile in the old days
@@dougwheeler7277 We in Detroit used to have KSHE sister station like 40 years ago WABX
Yeahhhh! April Wine underrated
They do a great job on this complex song. I have seen AW no less than 10 times and anybody growing up in Canada and particularly the East knows how popular AW was in the 70s and 80s.
Hell yeah! A bag of good smoke, April Wine live....many good memories of the good times to be had then.
I grew up in Texas, saw alot of concerts from '77 to '94.. And I had no idea at first alot of these bands were Canadian! lol.. I saw April Wine open for some band.. Not sure.. Then I've seen them with the headliners like Pat Travers, maybe not the top band everytime but my god they were damn good. Saw them with UFO and Triumph together, I think Triumph was headlining.. No matter, April Wine always kicked ass! Even saw Max Webster a few times.. lol goot Canadian Rock!!!
So I've seen AW (hawhaw) a few times!!! Excellent band. *So cool* to see all these old vids!!!!!

The Midwest, especially Michigan, loved this band. My first live Rock and Roll show. They blew Nazareth out of the water.
It was this version that led me to King Crimson. Well worth the time... both bands are awesome.
What a fucking blistering remake this song is so hard to do april wine killed this shit!
Not only that; A.W. BLOWS AWAY K.C. BY A COUNTRY MILE!!!!! PAY R RITEFUL 2 OUR CANADIAN BROTHERS!!!!!
It is a tribute, and a damn fine one at that.
@@williambandyk327 No they didn't. It isn't bad though.
whoever mixed this album should've gotten a raise after this.
One of my favorite albums when I was in high school. I Like to Rock.
APRIL WINES DRUMMER IS ONE THE GREATEST ROCK DRUMMERS THERE IS JERRY MERCER! HE STILL SLAYED THE DRUMS AT AGE 70 THE GUY IS INSANE!
Vince Gedeon I used to jam with April Wines first drummers son ...got to jam with him to I was playing bass i was 14 yrs ol ...
he still slays!!
Agreed on your assessment of Mercer. I like how he plays the ride cymbal from his shoulder.....whereas most drummers play from their wrist...
The most notable thing about his playing, to my ear, is his tom sound -- always punchy, whether he is playing Sonor or Milestone. That is just good tuning, taste, and talent.
The pride of Newfoundland!
-Saw him in St. Louis decades ago, and yes, he did indeed throw down & bang it up. His performance here is quite remarkable - tasty, bro'.
I can only say this was fucking fantastic...I've been a Crimson fan since their inception and have never heard any group pull off 21st as well as these guys did...kudos...
EXACTLY my feelings; couldn't have said it better (except I got into KC a few years later, after they had broken up -- I was so THRILLED when Discipline came out).
Most bands bail out on the "stop-start" section, it's really tough to play. April Wine totally nails it.
i saw them when they got big enough to headline the Montreal Forum, in their hometown. they played there for 2 nights.
Harlequin was opening up.
they did play this song.
Awesome show !
These guys were smokin' on the guitar and it was 1979. Eddie Van Halen was getting all the spot light! Malmsteen was still a teenager.
This band helped me through many long hours in the 80s
These guys played this live at a free concert on a Sunday afternoon. I was very surprised at how good their cover was!
the whole album kicks.....
Ass lol
Killer guitar riffs!
I saw AW at the Coliseum in LA 11 days before I entered the USMC. Mercer killed it that night.
I love the original, but this cover is damned good!!!
I'm sorry. The only reason I'm listening to this is because i do a thing with my friends where we go to bad song covers, and I have never found a single good 21st century schizoid man cover,
This would be the best of the bunch though
Certainly better than Ozzys cover by a mile
@@wednesdaygeckok.7899 I'm not even a fan of this cover and I SOMEWHAT like ozzy and I Still agree
@@Discogreview thx Blaine me either lol
This cover slams, can't stop listening in 2020
One of the most generated rock bands of the seventies and eighties totally awesome
A killer version.
huge fan of April Wine, being a Bluenoser entering teen years in the '70's, and this song was my intro to Crimson. Became an even bigger fan of KC, with the note that April Wine had three guitarists for this song, and Robert Fripp carried the original by himself... Crimson has always been unique, but April Wine decided to strut their stuff and did this song a rare justice...
Nice cover. The tight middle section proves these guys can do more than just play standard hard rock songs.
Just wanted to say, I went to the Nature of the beast tour. J M is one of the best drummers ever. A true pioneer on rock solid timing finest and unlimited potential. In fact, setting the bar for all drummers that fell under the spell, magic, power and elusive rhythms, such Peart, Bonham and yes, Paice of Deep Purple!!😊 you rock Jerry! I love the whole band and their journey they lived, lives on..... God bless you for talent and the passion!
I first heard this on WBCN in Boston when I was a teenager...led me to King Crimson, so thanks WBCN, the greatest independent radio station EVER!
Just killer. Heavy and technical.
i got to say i like the orginal better but this is also realy good
Outstanding rock n roll dudes
THIS REMAKE IS WHY I CLAIM APRIL WINE TO BE THE BEST CANADIEN ROCK BAND! NOT MANY BANDS CULD COME EVEN CLOSE TO DOING THIS SONG AS WELL AS KING CRIMSON DID!
What about Rush? I do love April wine but Rush is unbeatable
Isaac Johnson I'd have to agree. April wine is great, but Rush is Rush. Nothing tops Rush.
As much as I love Rush I don't think I need to hear Geddy singing this, sure Rush could pull this off musically in the studio but they couldn't do it live the way April Wine did back in the day with 3 guitarists. IMO
Rush is the greatest Canadian rock band.
Rush #1 so this #2 Canadian band. Supreme guitars drums bass great song. Still love it after hearing it in 80s
April Wine❤️
Totally Rocks!
From a hardcore KC fan, this isn't bad at all, usually bands massacre this song.
They killed it. Never knew they covered it. Wow.
I also just listened to Ozzy's version before this one which I also never heard before. Was really looking forward to hear what he did with the middle part and he mailed it in. Disappointing. I like what he did with the rest of the song but really felt cheated with the instrumental portion of it. April Wine's version of it was kinda what I was expecting from Ozzy so it was nice to hear their version of it after his.
Agreed. And since they don't play this song anymore anyway, I love to hear other bands have fun with it. Just a classic banger.
@@Revelwoodie Check this version out, it has Fripp on guitar. ua-cam.com/video/R8EOX9k6430/v-deo.html
Forbidden and Voivod have done solid versions. I personally find this one kind of passable.
Wow. I never knew this existed until now. Neat. I always like a few april wine songs but I never dug into them that deep. I may have to check out some of their albums more in depth. This is a fairly spot on rendition of this, though it sounds a little thin with out the horn parts, and the drummer is maybe playing a little less fills, or something. I wonder if there are any live versions by these guys of this. Even King Crimson playing this live, on the few recordings I have heard, never seemed to pull it off as well or as tightly as the album version.
king crimson (1969)
Saw April Wine play this song live and they did a great job of it. Cheers!
A bit late but there's a 1981 London live concert on dvd posted here on YT which icludes a great rendition of this tune
Unbelievable!
Without this great April wine cover who knows how much later I would have discovered King Crimson.
I love this so much it's unhealthy.
An old friend of mine had the Crimson album on the wall in his living room. So always saw those bugged out eyes when I visited - - .Drank a lot of beer with him, smoked a lot of doobies too~~!
Awesome band and awesome musicians. I seen them live in Vegas in 1981. Killer concert!
Holy shit, that is some tight playing!
R.I.P. Steve Lang!
So cool discovering this song from April Wine, never heard this one before although have listened to a lot of their stuff back in the days. This song is probably the best hard rock number I ever heard!
Fuck. Wore the damn grooves outta this album back in the day. Fuckin' tight.
was the encore song at ventura theater, great ! place was packed in the 2000's
Wow. Colour me impressed!
This song just works !

Just works?
Basically this is how it wor-
And that's it. Wait... WTF?!
I'm a true KC fan, but anybody who says this version isn't right up there (in it's own way, of course!) is lying to themselves. Both kick serious ass. Just sayin'.
+chooooook Don't sugar coat it . This is perhaps the greatest hard rock song ever on the merit of this recording . I have been playing guitar since the seventies and I'm telling you this is the greatest lead break of the decade and arguably of all time . Some people who don't know or care to know because they don't appreciate soloing as a high form of art won't get it . I have listened to the original and this version is better in many ways . Especially the sound quality and the arrangement but even if it were lacking in those areas who else was soloing on this level in the seventies . Frank Marino possibly. Shawn Lane hadn't found his musical identity at this point , although his technique was brilliant . Eddie Van Halen was a great guitarist then but this tops anything I've heard him do even to this day . Robert Fripp certainly was never able to solo like this and the thought of it was too much for his snooty musical ego .
+HotRodSixString Frank Marino, eh? :-)
+Aaron Arnow I can't believe I forgot Gary Moore .
+HotRodSixString Perhaps April Lawton of Ramatam?
+Aaron Arnow I likes me some Frank, and let's not leave Johnny Winter out in the cold!
God bless the legacy Myles left us with; yes the King Crimson OG version rocks but the band put a great spin on it…RIP
This version is my favourite I think.
This is an awesome cover!
this was the first April Wine song I heard, friend from high school played it for me i was hooked from then on
This isn't the original version, the original is by King Crimson
Really boils down to
Preferred genre. More into Jazz then King Crimson is 'probably' your preferred version.
I Like To Rock so this April Wine kicks ass and KC is ok but AW owned it imo ✌️
Damn! It's equal parts dive bar, prog rock, Monterey 1967, Rush, and a Paul Butterfield Blues Band album!
this drummer fantastic live in concert w strobe light effects
Steve Lang died Feb 4, 2017
Love the original! But this is on steroids man. I love April Wine's music man fo sure!
I got turn on to KC by seeing this version live in my home town back in the early 80's!
where you at people how bout dem 80's let me hear ya
inthenameof myfather 80s 4 ever rocks!
Very strong cover, IMHO.
Around the 6:12 mark, if you listen closely, you can hear Marilyn Chambers saying "harder...faster". According to Myles Goodwyn, in his book, Just Between You and Me, that's where the name for the album came from. He walked into a room in the studio where some of the guys were watching a porn flick, just as Marilyn was moaning out those words. He said, "Boys, I think we just found the name of the album!"
Love this version
April Wine came of age with Harder... Faster their sound was unique.A great tight band with great depth - Myles Goodwin Brian Greenway, Gary Moffett, and Jerry Mercer.
how awesome this is
atemporal!
Hearing this song, and this band, for the first time 🤯 Got a funky KISS vibe. The back of the album cover is choice!
Like something from Hotter Than Hell
I can't find it now, but a commenter whose handle includes the name Mohican (I think), mentioned Max Webster... Battle Scar is one the best rock songs around, and Geddy really tore it up with his vocals. I'm American, through and through, but I really love lots of Canadian entertainment, Rush April Wine, Bob and Doug Mckenzie, you hosers... love this site.
This is actually the best cove around 👌👌👌👌
Excellent jam
Great memories, awesome
Thanks!
It's an excellent cover.
This entire album is is something special. This song kinda reminds Me of some Parlaiment Funkadelic.
OUT FUCKIN STANDING!
To think when I was listening to this 40 years ago,I didn't know it was a cover???I'm an old fart, wow.😐still that tunes though, can't deny!!!!!can't imagine not hearing this growing up?????2019.
I was listening to this as a teenager in the '90s and didn't know it was a cover. I've heard of the group that did the original, but I'm not familiar with their recordings. I only know of them because I also listened to a lot of '60s groups so their name has come up. The April Wine cover came out the year I was born. A time I'm more familiar with and music I prefer to hear. Rock after the '80s was never as good.
great stuff
After last year, I think I have become the 21st century schizoid man--love the Wine!
Reminds me of teen year angst growing up in Sunset district SF,CA. 70s
Always loved this version... more straight rock. And the great bouncing guitars. Love KC's version too, but each have their special something.
Fucking awesome song!!
When you put real musicians together you get real music.
Played the shit out of this when I was in the Navy
Me as well. Virginia Beach. 1979?
Buen cover de esta rola del grupo April Wine llamada hombre esquizofrénico del siglo 21 la versión original de esta rola es del grupo Kim Crimson.
class
I like this version a lot more than King Crimson's: it's more psychedelic and louder.
and some of the places where KC seemed to get lost, AW found something melodic to do.
Never knew this cover existed.
Jamming ✊🏾
Good metal cover.
classic oldie from king crimson. !!!!
geniuses !
Katherine LAMBROPOULOS this by King Crimson
KIng Crimson wishes their version was this good
This is so killer ... 2nd best band from the great white north of sure
The best
Excellent cover of a King Crimson song!
The drums are pretty good. Overall not too shabby.
wanna see/hear a great version?!! go see king crimson! robert fripp is the man!! 50 years later, and he's better than ever!
an outstanding cover of the original KC
Great cover.
This is the soundtrack to the most epic car chase. Like Bourne Identity on Mario Kart
This Song's Instrumental Has "The Necromancer" ("Caress Of Steel" LP) By RUSH Written All Over It!
Not easy album to find!
Loved King doin his- it's what made me listen to this version back when they came out- and damn if dose Canadian boys didn't nail it, ey? An just cuz I was raised 12 mi south of da Canadian border, ey, don' make me biased! Just Lucky!
