Tech Pick of the Week - Episode 5: RAD Technique
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- This week on Tech Pick of the Week at Rescue Response Gear, Luke Bryan breaks down the RAD technique. The Rapid Ascent/Descent technique facilitates quick and easy progression, positioning and change from a rope access ascent to descent, all of which is accomplished while maintaining an acceptable number of points of contact as recognized by SPRAT.
Using a handled ascender, small pulley, a camming descent device, and a handful of carabiners, a technician can facilitate mechanically aided ascent to a quick changeover, which is free of the chest ascender to descent device procession.

Just wondering why you removed the carabiner holding the pulley and then reattached it to the carabiner at the bottom of the ascender , if you want to remove the ascent system wouldn't it be easier to just swing the cheek open on your Omni block and remove the rope. By doing this you not only avoid the risk of dropping your gear, your pulley will still be in the correct position if you need to convert back to ascent.
cheers
Great observation Peter Marotta...that is a great way to reduce the risk of dropping the pulley system...thanks for keeping a sharp eye.
The downside here is that you're now pulling 2 times the amount of rope through your device, since you essentially rig yourself onto a 2:1. Sometimes helpful in situations where you need to go up a short distance, but overall more work over long distance.
R.A.D. Technique...Luke Breaks down how he sets up his Rapid Ascent Descent system up
"Rapid". I guess "Slow and methdodical ascent and descent system" or S.M.A.D.S system didn't have the same ring.
For the Kong to go down with you, did you have to keep it below you making the fall factor >1? When repelling fast does it lock up
What is the manufacture, length, and size of the safety lanyard attached to the Petzl Ascension?
sure would be cool if SOMEONE came up with an ascender with a pulley built in...
Chris Vinson could that be as simple as building the device with a roller like the DMM Revolver and some kind of locking gate?
Now there is: The Climbing Technology Quick Roll ;)
Is it also safe to do this with a grigri?
what thickness rope is that, you are using??
Sterling HTP 7/16", let us know if we can help with anything else Daniel Davidsen
