  • SPRAT Level 1 Training: Performing a pick-off rescue of a casualty that is in ascent mode. Approaching casualty on an adjacent set of ropes, the candidate performs a change-over of the casualty from ascent mode to descent mode. The candidate then performs a rescue from descent.
The intent of this rescue is to show options for rescuing a casualty that is in ascent on long ropes that will stretch while trying to be transferred over.
The RAD style method creates a mechanical advantage system for the rescuer to help lift the patient. This is ideal if the rescuer is the same size or smaller than the casualty.

Wouldn't hooking up the cows tail and the greon to the sternal, the same point, be a no no? I just graduated class today and we were trained cows tail to ventral, greon to sternal.

SPRAT allows both to go into one D-Ring as long as the harness is in good condition and is secured properly. They see the D-ring as a solid piece that is not prone to human error.

Why does SPRAT require changing the victim to decent mode when rescuing from ascent? It seems like an extra step that just takes time.

Rope stretch when possibly on extremely long drops?
