Dave Gibson Dave well done. Sorry the notification is a bit late...You win! Send me a message in facebook, postal address and preferred shirt size. Thanks and congratulations. CB.
I have been needing to replace an ailing SkyDat2 EMS display for about a year now... I came across the MGL Xtreme whilst searching for a replacement gauge for a friends machine and have been tossing about the idea of buying one. You think that because its "cheap" (in relative terms) and a small display that it would be minimalist in what it offers. And as you say MGL do not offer much information on their website. Well safe to say I have just placed an order with them, your video shows me all I need to know and more!
Another fantastic video Stewart, thanks very much for making this. I've just bought into a microlight group and our aircraft has the XTreme EFIS installed. You''ve saved me hours of reading the manual and trying to adapt it for my first flight. Now I'll feel a bit more confident flipping through the screens the first time I use it. Love your videos (yes, I've subscribed).... keep 'em coming.
Steve Middleton Glad it helped you out. I was the same when I started using mine. It is quite straight forward, it just that the EFIS is full of so many features. A very valuable tool in the cockpit. I like using its basic nav function too, great for distance and bearing from a waypoint.
Thank you for this very informative introduction to the MGL Extreme!! This coming spring I will be getting a new Evolution trikes Revolt that is equipped with the MGL Extreme. At first I wasn’t sure if this would be what I want, but now I can see it will give me all the function I could need! Excellent walkthrough!
I've just purchase one. The setup to a Rotax 912 is pretty simple. Linking the RDAC XG unit up to the Engine sensors via the 25 Dsub plug then connecting the RDAC up to the display via the low & high Can line. Don't forget to connet the 120 ohs resistor to Can line as well otherwise the unit won't talk to the display screen
Brilliant video! Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together -- it's so comprehensive and really well done. Quick question: For the artificial horizon to function, do you need to put an AHRD module in the wing (as I guess the trike is always hanging level)? Do yo have this installed in your set up? Just got interested in ultralights and found your channel, loving the great content and have subscribed! Best wishes and thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! I do not have the AHRS installed - my EFIS uses the GPS to calculate level etc. As the trike is 'swinging out' in a turn, I guess the AHRS could be mounted on it rather than the wing. But I don't see the point really of having one. If I had the optional compass, I could get wind direction/speed vector calculations on my screen - a tempting option.
Hi, thanks for sharing. Can I ask, do you get all that functionality in a stand-alone configuration or does it have to be connected to an RDAC and external sensors? Thanks!
What is your take on the reliability of your MGL EFIS? Have you had any problems with it? I am interested in the AI (aerodynamics only) no engine monitoring. thanks in advance, best regards.
Actually to me it looks very different. Front panel and display layout. There is no SD-slot on front either. www.aeroexpo.online/prod/suzhou-changfeng-instruments-co-ltd/product-171483-855.html
the best description of the MGL Xtreme that I have ever come across!
I'm not yelling, I'm a microlight pilot and I like CB videos

Peter Wakefield thanks! I won’t be doing it though. Factory install! 😉
@@AV8R_1 ha ha I've just installed a unit into a Flight Design CT. the MGL Extreme is a fantastic unit.
Would be great and educational for the community whos thinking of purchasing this, to show how you connect up the wiring to the Rotax 912.
Thank you. I've found your checklist video. Many thanks

Very welcome
Fantastic video!very informative I'm certain now that I need one of those for my cheetah
Very Very good demo...
Thank you. I might do an issues video soon.
Mate thats awsome. I want one tomorrow
Very handing device/gadget thingy.
Very informative, however I was wondering what nav database you're using for the GPS?
The database is built in from the factory (on SDcard) - it covers Australia very well.

Hi Justin, That and more of an answer coming in a video in the next week - with some unexpected information to report about the EFIS.
@@CrayonboxAviationAdventures Sweet! Subscribed and rang the bell. Can't wait!

It's good - only failure was when I crashed
It seems to cover everything you need, just like a 747!
why does the MGL Xtreme EFIS so similar to the cf2000 efis made in china by suzhou fengchang instruments ?
