I love my Rock Island armory m206 one of my favorite guns I own. And like me I see you left your old school wood grips on there. I think that's what drew me to it.
Agreed. That steel I was ringing shooting through the chrono was about 25 yards from that position and I literally wasn't even trying to hit it. This revolver has really surprised me.😎
@@joeziegler1776I currently own the Model 206 and the Model 200. I've talked with RIA customer service about this issue. Their official response to me was -"Our revolvers are Plus P rated. How are you? Just letting you know I was able to find the same ammo (Winchester 110 grain silver tip non +p). I have a RIA M206. I've given up on hollow points. For self defense I carry my own cast and powder coated 158 gr LSWC loaded to 750 fps. I'm sure they will penetrate to the vitals. If they over-penetrate, that's OK with me.
For example, I shot old Remington 158 grain target ammo and after 8 rounds the gun was stuck.I shot hornady ftx critical defense and after 9 rounds and after 12 rounds it wouldn’t move. I shot the Winchester silvertips and after 11 rounds it was stuck again. Each time I opened the cylinder then closed it and it cycled normally. I shot ammo inc 125 grain and had no problems. I’m thinking that gun is being picky about the ammo because dry firing is fine and every worker at the range said it seems all normal. Also shot inceptor arx with no jams except that’s frangible and the bullets fragment before leaving the barrel bc one shot in the paper left 2 holes.thank you.
Sure sounds like a timing issue. You are likely shaving lead off with each shot and it is falling loose when you open the cylinder to inspect it. I would take it to a gunsmith if the manufacturer won't warranty it. If it is shaving lead, it could be real dangerous if too much pressure due to lead buildup.
I recently picked up a new RIA 200. Paid $200 for it. I immediately found a timing issue when I got it home. This does seem to be a very common problem on their revolves when they leave the factory. But RIA has great customer service. I called them and was assured it would be repaired, at no cost to me. I had a shipping label E-mailed to me only 2 hours after I spoke with them. They had the gun for 3 weeks. All shipping and repairs free. It's 100 percent ! Honestly, the action feels like a custom job. Just super slick! I'm very happy with the gun and their service. I'd recommend that you call their customer service. They will quickly and gladly take care of your problems.

Brother you need some forceps to pull them out with a lot less damage to the gel. I just bought a box of Federal Punch 38+P just to have it. I am very impressed with it in 22 from a short barrel, and .38 is my EDC.
I tried 44 special 200 gr silver tip and expansion was terrible.hardly any expansion at all .total disappointing . papa sticking to the tried and true 180 gr xt .
I always love some gel tests! I think my 357 loads would go all the way though that gel and half way through a second one. 38 Special is so much fun, accurate and easy to load, it’s a no-brainer! I recommend 38 as a starting cartridge for new reloaders.
Great video, I just bought some federal punch for my model 15 combat masterpiece which is a 4 inch, I was thinking about carrying it in my chief's special but I've been carrying Corbon 110 grain +p DPX in it.
Loved the video, I have my RI 206 coming in a few days. I wasn't aware it can shoot +p . That's good to know. I can't wait to shoot it at the range. Thanks again.👍
Thank you sir. I actually contacted them about the +P and they said basically the same thing everybody says about firing +P even when it states it right in the manual, "It's fine to occasionally fire +P without any ill effects but continuous firing of it may accelerate wear on the firearm." Basically lawyer talk for it's fine but if you go out there running thousands of rounds in a day, don't come crying to us about a worn out gun.😂
Definitely. It also wanted to start shedding lead splinters which would add to the nastiness. Thank you brother. I think I'm gonna start trying to do more of these.😎
I picked up one of those recently at a pawnshop, decent price. I’m glad to see you run some +P through it. I was under the impression that you couldn’t run +P through it. Thanks for the info!🍻
I think it's pretty much like all of em that they tell you to run +P only "occasionally." It's obviously putting more strain on the parts of any gun you run +P through but i don't plan on running 500 rounds a day through it. Hasn't hurt anything I own at all.👍
@@ToolsandTargets Sounds right, I did a little more digging on some forums and that’s seems to be the consensus. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!🍻
Good work Tools, glad to see this one finally cleared "review". I suspect your two errors on the chrono could be from being a little too close to the unit, sometimes the muzzle blast will cause errors. My chrono suggests something like 16 feet between muzzle and chrono.
Thank you sir. Thats exactly what it was. Not too close as far as distance but too low and close to the actual surface this time. Basically same thing though. You could notice no ring from the steel downrange in line of where I was shooting on those two errors because I shot too low and under it. At least I didn't shoot my chrono!😂
I love mine. Although, I gave mine to my Mothet in law. She loves it as well. She is accurate with it out to about 10 yards. Nothing wrong with these pistols!!
Thank you sir. I would take either one of em for sure. I haven't tried the plastic grips on the RIA. I really like the look of the wood on this one but I do have a video coming soon of something similar.😎
I use Hornady Critical Defense after watching a big test series Paul Harrell did a few years ago. T&T do you still have this revolver? How is it holding up? Considering getting one.
OK Tools, In real time E.R. ( yes, emergency room all hands on deck, state ) please evaluate your opinion on dealing with either projectile ( assuming soft tissue not bone ) for survivability and or converse stopping power by user. This is a medical question. Thnx.
I think it would be nearly identical and some nasty tissue damage from both. The one thing I did notice is that the silvertip seemed to wanna shed some splinters more than the punch did. Without getting too graphic, both of these would be a nightmare to deal with and cause a lot of damage to any soft goodies inside, but multiple splinters coming off would definitely compound the situation. You're talking about possible vessel damage that you may not even know about until it was too late to stop it.
@@ToolsandTargets Thank you for verifying my opinion, I'm not certified, but have had to take over some stressful situations for leo's not able to handle such, without being graphic. When I had a business, that at times could become tenuous with certain patrons, I had a .38 spl. Smith, now have a Colt, and a Charter Undercover. I've never felt unarmed or under powered, and those snubbies I have are all very good ccw's. I had, fwiw, two occasions where I'd have been legally justified, but thank goodness, I didn't have to...when the hammer got cocked, chit calmed down, de-escalated. This class of weapon is a very good home and car defensive tool for men, and women alike. People need to realize, when a situation arises, it's more likely to be cheek to cheek, than 5, 10 yards. Been there, done that. That's why I never use dot sights, or pay attention to irons, it read, react, come on muscles, you got memory, don't make me think, that takes time I might not have. ( As Forest would say, " That's about all I have to say on thay-at." )
@@boogerdog5247 I have a whole new appreciation and change of attitude about a little .38 spcl like these being just a "backup" gun after seeing this.👍
As far as pure function, nope. They are both just as accurate and reliable. The one thing I do like about the 856 over this is the ability to swap out the front sight blade if you want. if you never have any intention of doing that, there's really no benefit of one over the other in my opinion.👍

Could you possibly do a Kentucky long rifle gel test in 45 round ball I have yet to find anyone that has done it, and I'm curious as to how much of a wound channel it makes.
Hope all is well with you.I had the chance to test out the Winchester silvertip in the rock island 38 special. Very mild recoil and pleasant to shoot.after the 11th round it jammed.would you have any idea as to why? I shot 5 different ammos out of it and I experienced jams with 3 of them. I’m woundering if you shot more that the ones in your video without any jams? I believe you shot a total of 6 in the video. Would you be able to either do a video or shoot some of the silvertips to see if it happens to yours? I’m carrying with ammo inc 125 grain since I had no jams with that but the recoil is too harsh for me. Thank you and stay well.
I have shot many rounds through this revolver with no problems at all. What do you mean by it jams? It is close to impossible for ammo to cause malfunctions in a revolver unless it is the wrong size/caliber. What malfunction are you having?
I love .38spl and .32S&W. More of a fan of lead bullets at moderate velocity but the special sure is flexible. Looks like those are a little shy on penetration.
It's definitely tricky finding a .38 hollow point to get good expansion and penetration both. I actually have another .38 test on my list for the range tomorrow.👍
@@ToolsandTargets 158gr soft lead SWC can work well. However I think the best bet is a lead wad cutter or semi-wad cutter as you will get plenty of penetration even at modest velocity and the flat point does a lot of smashing, cutting, and tearing. A soft lead with gas check at about 800-900 fps should be a great load I think. The gel tests I have seen of the old 200gr RN super police were quite interesting if you could scare up (or load up) some of those.
That was a great test and to me it was pretty dang similar I would use either one but I haven’t owned a 38 since I bought my first Glock 21 in 1993 but I did buy two revolvers this year and or if prices and availability ever comes back around I am gonna save up and purchase a very good 357 . Awesome test. I really enjoy seeing stuff like this, but you gotta be careful...I don't believe that the M206 is rated for +P ammo.
You sold me on a Box of Winchester silver tips for the 206, 110 gr. But greater expansion!
😎👊
I use Hornady Critical Defense after watching a big test series Paul Harrell did a few years ago. T&T do you still have this revolver? How is it holding up? Considering getting one.
Yessir, it's been 100% flawless still. I need to start using it on some .38 ammo tests.👍
@@ToolsandTargets Thanks. I am also watching M200 reviews.
@@keithplymale2374 That one looks good too.👍
OK Tools, In real time E.R.
@@ToolsandTargets
Thank you for verifying my opinion, I'm not certified, but have had to take over some stressful situations for leo's not able to handle such, without being graphic.
( As Forest would say, " That's about all I have to say on thay-at." )
@@boogerdog5247 I have a whole new appreciation and change of attitude about a little .38 spcl like these being just a "backup" gun after seeing this.👍
@@ToolsandTargets
Roger that Sir, We copy.
I think the silver tip and the punch is the best two rounds on the market but that's just me good veido as always salute
They are both fantastic from what I've seen for sure.😎
Do you think the Taurus 856 snubby is worth the extra money over this gun?
As far as pure function, nope. They are both just as accurate and reliable. The one thing I do like about the 856 over this is the ability to swap out the front sight blade if you want. if you never have any intention of doing that, there's really no benefit of one over the other in my opinion.👍
how's that recoil on those standard 110s? I'm looking for something more controllable in an airweight...
Very mild. This RIA does have a little weight to it though.
i have the same revolver and the store has some punch ill pick a box up tomorrow
Nice. It's good stuff.😎👍
I do love my Rock Island M206. Currently, it's my second favorite .38! Wahi' Valleys
It's a great little revolver!😎
My rural king was packed today i got a box of .223 200 rounds for 95$ there :D and made my buddy get me some 12g top gun shells too lmao
That gels pretty cool
Nice! RK is the best!. Appreciate you checkin out the vid brother!😎
WHATS UP YALL !!! MORNING FROM CENTRAL OHIO !!! LOVE THOSE BIG OLE ROCK ISLANDS. JUST LIKE THE HI-POINT , OFTEN RIDICULED OFTEN MADE FUN OF, BUT STILL A WELL MADE , GENERALLY SHOOTS STRAIGHT AND WORKS WELL FOR WHAT THAT LIL 2” was made for !!! GUT GUN THAT GOES BANG EVERYTIME
Yessir. I've been pretty impressed with this little sucker for sure.😎
great content brother,I appreciate all that you do.Ithink they both did a great job myself,i havent seen any punch ammo in any cal in my parts.
Thank you sir. I would definitely take either one of em if I needed to take care of business.👍
Could you possibly do a Kentucky long rifle gel test in 45 round ball I have yet to find anyone that has done it, and I'm curious as to how much of a wound channel it makes.
I don't actually have any muzzleloaders. 😆
Good test. Both bullets about the same. Thanks for sharing
Thank you sir. I wouldn't have a problem counting on either one if I needed em.👍
@@ToolsandTargets Both looks do a good job.
Very nice I bought the RI M200 they are great guns especially for the money Thank you Be Safe and God Bless 👍
Thank you sir. I'm gonna pick that model 200 up as soon as my RK gets it back in stock for sure.😎
@@ToolsandTargetsdid you get m200 yet?
For a second there at the intro I thought you were rapping man
😂😂😂
I have an m206 but it has an accuracy issue, shoots a foot high and to the right consistently
Wow, that aint good.😣
I thank its a mind boggling thang, Buddy.
100% support for your Super-Cool Channel and Contraption.
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
Appreciate you checking them out!
Is the Federal legal in CA? If not, why not? Thanks.
I'm not an expert on all the goofy laws they have in CA but it's just a solid lead projectile .22lr.
the m206 isn't rated for plus p, is it safe to use that, or just every once in a while?
😎👍
Feel good about my purchase now. Thanks
😎👊
That was a great test and to me it was pretty dang similar I would use either one but I haven’t owned a 38 since I bought my first Glock 21 in 1993 but I did buy two revolvers this year and or if prices and availability ever comes back around I am gonna save up and purchase a very good 357 . So tools thanks for bringing another top notch video I don’t understand why I didn’t get my notification when it came out but I figure better late than never
Thank you sir. I would have to agree they both look capable of getting the job done. Appreciate you checkin out the video.😎
Thumbs up before even watching!!! Commenting as I’m letting the add play!!
Appreciate that brother!😎
I like the video's using gel blocks. I like to see what the bullets look like after they hit.
Me too. I think it's super cool to see em expanded. I'm thinking about splurging on a clear gel kit but man they're expensive.😆
The penetration didn’t look very good. What’s some of your favorite 38 snub nose loads?
Might be best off going with a solid round.
@@ToolsandTargets do you like wads cutters?
I can't decide what to carry in my 38... federal punch or old school 158 grain FBI load
Hmmm
I decided on the fbi load. The punch shoots low out of all of my guns
I'm a Silvertip fan.
They've been good in pretty much every test I've done except the .380's.
Outstanding!
😎👊
Ima go punch, just bought some today. Overpaid $24 for 20 rds
That aint terrible right now though. This Punch is some great stuff.👍
That's the fools gold loaf right there buddy!
😆😆😆
If you don't mind me asking where did this gel come from
It was given to me by someone. It is actually medical grade gel that is used for filling support/positioning cushions.
Love this nerdy shit. Love this channel
Appreciate that!😎👊
