FYI Palembang is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, In the past there was a very famous kingdom, namely the Sriwijaya kingdom, whose power reached Malaysia and Singapore Prince Sriwijaya, named Sang Nila Utama, was the first person to discover Singapore and create the kingdom of Singapore. There is a statue of Sang Nila Utama with Sir Stamford Raffles in the next Singapore river

And please be careful in Jakarta. on crowded places wear your backpack on your chest. also use wallet with rfid blocking and keep your mobile on a safe place if you use public transportation.
Welcome to Indonesia, Indonesian is the main language so there are rarely Indonesian people in remote areas who can speak English, unfortunately the language barrier is a bit of an obstacle in communicating with friendly Indonesian people...but it doesn't hinder friendship. .. keep going, enjoy and stay healthy

I went through an overland bus trip from Medan in North Sumatra to Jakarta back in the early 2000s. Interesting, challenging and, at times, tortuous. I also did trips across the Eastern islands. Good to see you doing this and yet maintain your easy-going demeanour, Ken. 😅

My own experience of Indonesia is that the longer away from tourists destinations you are, the friendlier the people will be.

Yeah, I'd like to take that train but can't find any information about how to get tickets 🤔
Since it was just officially launched on October 2, the Indonesian High-Speed Railway is still in the trial phase and the public can register for free on the official website to enjoy it until next week. Tickets will be sold from October 17 both online and offline. You can find information on the official website. And you can try the Compartment Suites class train which is the first class train in Indonesia and you can compare it with the train you ride in Malaysia or Thailand.

Honestly there's s direct Bus from Jambi/ Palembang to Jakarta. Even in Palembang there's sleeper Bus to Jakarta/Bandung. I suggest you if you need information ask Receptionist or staff of your Hotel. They will give you the best suggestion to travel to your next destination
