Jamu is a traditional health drink that is very popular in Indonesia. It is a very, very healthy drink because it is made from native Indonesian spices
35:40 "Es Sum Sum" is a traditional Indonesian dessert made from a combination of ice, coconut milk, pandan leaves, and mung bean flour, often sweetened with sugar. 48:40 The one you drink is Jamu Kunyit Asam."Jamu Kunyit Asam" is a traditional Indonesian herbal drink made from a mixture of turmeric (kunyit) and tamarind (asam) along with various other herbs and spices. It is known for its potential health benefits, such as its anti-inflammatory properties, and is often consumed as a natural remedy to promote overall well-being in Indonesian culture.
In most cases when Indonesians say “Hati-hati”, it actually means “Take care”. However, sometimes it can mean “Be careful” depending on the situation. The direct translation of “Hati-hati” is indeed “Be careful”, but it often means “Take care”. Hope this explanation helps you, Ken
I found that your smile can melt an iceberg and you make everyone happy! After traveling around the world, I discovered that delicious food doesn’t have to go to five-star restaurants, you can find it on the streets! That hash brown may seem simple, but I’m sure it should be delicious! Thanks for sharing the story of that photo, it was such a magical connection! Congratulations on finding the hair style that suits you best! 👍🤩🙌
As a woman with depression, I am now really interested in doing what he does. Travelling alone across the country with minimal budget, it might be the cure that I need.
Indonesia, or south east asia in general, might be your best bet. Most of us are friendly to foreigners, prices are generally cheap especially in rural areas, and people are more than willing to help if you get lost or confused.
Sure, come to Jakarta. We have everything you call medicine for mental health. you will be grateful with your condition if u compare with people in there but they look so happy
They are not laughing you, but they are show their interest for to try conversation, although sometimes it fail and then they smile and laugh 😅😅 Greeting from Jakarta 😅
And so, we finally arrive here in Jakarta.....Maybe they don't see that many tourists which is why the locals are friendly and welcoming towards you. And as always, the hunt for football jersey in a new country begins..... Exploring local street food and mingling with the locals......Must have been quite an experience...... And I expect a new surge of followers and subscribers to the channels.... Take care and stay safe out there mate...Cheers!!!
in Bali and Yogyakarta they meet a lot of foreigner tourists, but they still very nice to everyone. not all but most people in Indonesia or in southeast asia are very friendly.
If you still in Jakarta, i suggest you visit these place: 1. Monas (National Monument) 2. Kota Tua (Old Town, many museums of Dutch colonial heritage) 3. Senayan (Urban forest, convenient for walks, sports centers such as stadiums) 4. Sudirman Thamrin street (Monument Bundaran HI, if you go to Jakarta you must go there) 5. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII, learn about all Indonesian culture) 6. Dufan (Carnival) 7. Ancol (Beach, many streetfood, cycling along the beach) 8. SCBD (Modern of Jakarta) 9. Tour Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral 10. Museum Macan (Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara) 11. Sea world Indonesia 12. Jakarta Aquarium 13. Grand Indonesia Mall 14. Plaza Indonesia Mall 15. Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK 1&2 Chinatown, Beach, Cycling beside the ocean, the place is very comfortable)
5 to 7 are a waste of time. He learned more about Indonesia just going around than he would seeing some sterile houses in Taman Mini. Ancol and Dufan would be boring for a German guy just going around. Shopping malls and food places like PIK are also boring for European tourists. Old Town is good. They like using motorcycle taxis and trying street food more. He started the video with Monas so I don't even know why you mentioned it.
50:10 , jamu is one the traditional herbal drink in indonesia, those bunch of liquid in a bottles r premade of the drink from either roots ,leaves , seeds and much more. later then they mixed it together to make a healthy drink. i really love that drink !

Hahaha, the lady was so lively, laughing. You officially visit Indonesia when you try jamu, wedang jahe (aka healthy traditional drink) Jamu (the one you drink at the end of video) is original and authentic, usually they make it from scratch from some plants like turmeric, etc, boil it, then sell it in a bottle

The "jamu" you drank in the end of this video I believe is "kunir asem" (And I think the lady seller mix it with "beras kencur" From rice that gave u a little sweet tone. Jamu kunir asem is a healthy drink from turmeric... And the additional drink is jahe with brown sugar/gula jawa... I personally love jamu kunir asem and beras kencur. But there are many more jamu that have a bitter taste, even I can't really stand for those.

Selamat datang Ken. Thanks for visiting Indonesia. Although i am not from Indonesia i am very please that you are visiting Jakarta. It has a special place in my heart, my wife and maternal grandparents are from Indonesia. I consider Jakarta my second home away from home and Sabah Malaysia. My new home is located in Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in a small town or kampong as we say next to Lake Superior Michigan. I think of Indonesia alot especially during the winter months! We have lived here for over 30 years! Enjoy your trip and be safe!
hi mr. Ken, thank you for visiting Jakarta, I really enjoyed watching your vlog, starting from Monas to Tanah Abang market, then walking while having street snacks until getting a haircut near my office.... hehe.. I really didn't expect it to turn out at the end of the video. can reach the area every day where I am. hiiii.. thank you very much, always healthy and successful to you Mr Ken 🤍
Wow, what a great start to your Indonesia adventures. It's indeed a wonderful and fun experience at that Pasar/market area. Oh gosh, it's very interesting to see you buying that nice pouch from that jovial vendor 😂😃. Aaah, as always, you with your top notch bargaining skill, managed to get that bracelet at a fair price. Wonderful of you to try those street food, ginger drink (Wedang Jahe) and Indonesian jamu. I love your open- mindedness and how you interact with all those friendly and welcoming locals. Great video with fabulous content....enjoyed watching from start to finish. Good job and thank you very much for sharing this awesome exploration, Ken.

This is something rare to see a bule (foreigner) walking around in the small alley in Jakarta 😅, anyway many people in Jakarta can't speak english fluently because they are shy or never meet bule (foreigners) before.
Great to see you mix up with the locals! BTW be careful with the ginger, too much of anything is not good. But ginger can cause stomach reset, though not harmful in any way.
Good evening from all wet Wales 🏴 Myself and @undereaten_muffins aren't loving your Indonesian journey. We're always in awe of the way you travel off the big tourist streets and get right in amongst the amazing locals. The lady selling the bags was hilarious 😂 I'm finding myself smiling throughout your vlogs because I'm enjoying them so much. Thanks for taking us with you 👍🙏🏴🇮🇩
hey ken! great vlog as always. i hope you’re not too overwhelmed at the market 😅 indonesians are generally very friendly. i always feel like home every time i visit indonesia because of their hospitality. i love that you explored the more local side of jakarta and kept an open mind. it’s the most authentic indonesian experience you can get. “es sum sum” is a traditional indonesian dessert & “air jamu” is a healthy herbal drink that restores energy, improves blood circulation, good for digestion & many more. some drink it hours before… wink wink. looking forward to see more of ur indonesian adventures 🇮🇩🎉
50:56 after that jamu and the ginger drink earlier, do tell us how was the rest of your day? Was your body feeling really good? I love drinking jamu. The key components are mostly turmeric, ginger and honey. Organic raw eggs can also be requested. Amazingly healthy drink!
@47.34... The lady is selling Jamu, a herbal drink. Jamu is a traditional Indonesian medicine made from roots, herbs, flowers, bark and spices. This version is one of the most popular and includes turmeric, ginger, honey and lime. It is usually boost the immune system. She was asking if you can take bitterness (pahit).
Hai bule ngevlog setiap hari aj spt ini yg melokal. Lumayan bikin ketawa gak nyambung kalo bicara dgn org2 lokal. Seru... Videonya hadir tiap hari yaa Mr Ken...
Interesting to see you are trying almost all types of street food & drink. You know few local words too. You are easily adopting to local people & culture too.👍
Jamu is a typical herbal drink from Indonesia, it contains curcumin, turmeric, galangal, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom. All from healthy and natural ingredients...
I'm half Indonesian from my fathers side. Sadly I wasn't also brought up with the language. But I'm so proud to know that the Indonesian people, just like how I saw it with my family, are so generous, warm, kind and friendly! I've never been to Indonesia, but it's so awesome to experience the country where my grandma and grandpa came from!! Also Ken, please don't bargain at vendors when you already can get their stuff so dirt cheap in comparison to our European prices. They all need their income badly.
I just found your channel and I got to admire your positive attitude. I will be now binge watching your videos and can't wait for it. I've spent quite a lot of time in Germany, mostly in Schleswig-Holstein and along the Kiel Canal and Hamburg but also visited Bremerhaven once and also Bremen and Brake. Keep up the good work and stay positive! Kind regards and greetings from Helsinki.
In Indonesia we say hati-hati to mean take care actually, so if we speak in English we might say "be careful" out of habit. But I think the people in the market really mean be careful though as there are a lot of people there. Nice vlog, you explore the more local side of Jakarta which I like it to experience Jakarta as a whole.
The traditional drinks called jamu - its handmade from 100% leave or spices , the yellow colour it was tumeric that she soft boiled for at least 4 hours before she sell it for drinks , so actually it was good drink that you find .
Hi Ken. Indonesian is almost similar to Malay. but both of them have a little bit different accents. here are Indonesian words: teman: friends halo/hi : hello selamat pagi: good morning selamat siang: good evening selamat sore: good afternoon selamat malam: good night apa kabar?: how are you? baik: i'm good siapa nama mu?: what is your name? nama saya : my name is . . . kamu berasal dari mana/ kamu dari mana?: where are you from? saya dari Germany: i am from Germany ini apa?: what is this? berapa harganya? : how much is it? ini di mana?: where is this? tempat ini dimana?: where is this place? enak: very delicious/taste ayo: lets go gratis: for free kopi: coffee susu: milk teh: tea gula: sugar salt: garam daging : meat telur:egg sayur: vegetable ikan: fish daging ayam: chicken daging sapi: beef daging babi: pork keju: cheese pedas: spicy asin: salty manis : sweet terima kasih: thank you sama-sama: you're welcome sampai jumpa: see you again
Hi Ken...are you from the North or East Germany? ...you are so cheerful and friendly for a German...Anyway, stay safe and healthy...also always be careful with your belongings when in crowded places ...can't wait to watch your next adventure in Jakarta/Indonesia
“Bule” originated from the word “Belanda” in bahasa, it means “Dutch”, because long time ago all foreigners in Indonesia was from Netherlands and now is use to call all foreigners. Other word is “orang Barat”, which means “Western people”.
I think its originated from “bulai” in bahasa, which means “albinos”. Its because Caucasians have white skin and some Westerners who residing in Indonesia find the word stereotypical and offensive, but many Indonesian prefer to use the word “mister” to call foreigners 😁
Bajaj (say Bajay) or Tuk tuk in Thailand used old machine, consume more petroleum, so the price is more expensive than regular/modern transportation. It has no rule about the price so you should bargain to the driver. It is amazing for experiancing the vibes one or two times, but no for daily transportation. In Jakarta, goverment provide massal transportation and cheap enough for the people such as MRT (speed train in South to Central Jakarta) , Transjakarta/TJ/Busway (it is bus, going everyway in Jakarta, you only take some transit here and there), Commuter Line (regular train around Jakarta). All of them using special card payment. You can buy the card in Alfamart or Indomaret, and put your money inside. It is reusable card. For regular transportation we have taxi (many of them such as Blue Bird or Express), that Angkot/Angkutan Kota (it is colorful mini bus/mini car. The color and the code on the front and back glass is differentiate the track/destination). Those are using cash payment/money. Then, we have online transportation, motorbike and car such as Gojek and Grab.
Hai Mr Ken..you should go to slums house area in JAKARTA..Only center of Jakarta look nice due to just do some renovation ..but if you go some others placed further in Jakarta then you can see so many slums house area with very bad condition and dirty with rubbish inside the river..Jakarta has no 2 the largest slums city in asean after Manila..and Bangkok was 3rd placed...so pls explore more about Jakarta...the fact about Jakarta...
Welcome to Jakarta Ken, have a safe trip and enjoy your time in Indonesia. Don't forget to visit Bandung and Yogyakarta. The public transport in Java is very good and cheap. Gute Reise 🇮🇩😎
You will find many german words in Bahasa Indonesia. I believe they come from the Dutch, such as beton, reklame, gratis, foto, strom, tante, bensin (benzin), aula, lampu (lampe), besuk (besuch), stempel, handuk (Handtuch), usw.......viel Spass in Jakarta 😊
Hiya. Ken. Happy Saturday and Weekend. The people are lovely and friendly. Love the street vendors. A fresh haircut looks good. Great video. Have a wonderful weekend.
Grab/Gojek might cost you only 15k, but that experience with the Tuk Tuk Driver certainly worth the price. His english is pretty good and freindly as well!
Very happy to finally explore Jakarta 🙏 Really love the vibes here so far! If you're new here feel free to subscribe and follow the journey, I am going to stay in Indonesia for a few weeks💪

Myself and @undereaten_muffins aren't loving your Indonesian journey. We're always in awe of the way you travel off the big tourist streets and get right in amongst the amazing locals. The lady selling the bags was hilarious 😂
I'm finding myself smiling throughout your vlogs because I'm enjoying them so much. Thanks for taking us with you 👍🙏🏴🇮🇩
Ken...I meant "are enjoying your journey " not "aren't" ...typo
hey ken! great vlog as always. i hope you’re not too overwhelmed at the market 😅 indonesians are generally very friendly. i always feel like home every time i visit indonesia because of their hospitality. i love that you explored the more local side of jakarta and kept an open mind. it’s the most authentic indonesian experience you can get. “es sum sum” is a traditional indonesian dessert & “air jamu” is a healthy herbal drink that restores energy, improves blood circulation, good for digestion & many more. some drink it hours before… wink wink. looking forward to see more of ur indonesian adventures 🇮🇩🎉
Having a great time here 💪
50:56 after that jamu and the ginger drink earlier, do tell us how was the rest of your day? Was your body feeling really good?
I love drinking jamu. The key components are mostly turmeric, ginger and honey. Organic raw eggs can also be requested. Amazingly healthy drink!
Kamu sangat ramah bro ,mudah tersenyum.. saya suka kepribadianmu👍👍
Alhamdulillah kamu dipertemukan dengan orang orang yang sangat baik ❤

Very interesting! Can't wait for next video in Jakarta
WELCOME BRO ❤ 🇮🇩.. don't be shy to ask local people for something.. And keep smiling 😄❤
Hai bule ngevlog setiap hari aj spt ini yg melokal. Lumayan bikin ketawa gak nyambung kalo bicara dgn org2 lokal. Seru... Videonya hadir tiap hari yaa Mr Ken...
Interesting to see you are trying almost all types of street food & drink. You know few local words too. You are easily adopting to local people & culture too.👍
This is a country where the people loves their own language.
Great Vlog Ken ❤ 👍👍. Take care & be careful of the pick pocket
Thank you 😊
Jamu is a typical herbal drink from Indonesia, it contains curcumin, turmeric, galangal, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom. All from healthy and natural ingredients...
wow Ken. You did a lot in your first day. Good for you.
Welcome to the channel 🙏
Waaachh, bisa bhsa i ggris si abang bajaj....kerennnn..!! Bisa enak ngobrol jdnya...dg bule...

Hi Ken...are you from the North or East Germany? ...you are so cheerful and friendly for a German...Anyway, stay safe and healthy...also always be careful with your belongings when in crowded places ...can't wait to watch your next adventure in Jakarta/Indonesia
I'm from north Germany ✌️
@@KenAbroad Ach so....that explains it
“Bule” originated from the word “Belanda” in bahasa, it means “Dutch”, because long time ago all foreigners in Indonesia was from Netherlands and now is use to call all foreigners.
Bravo for tuktuk driver.he can good comunicate in engkish. we need. People like you more 😊
Bajaj (say Bajay) or Tuk tuk in Thailand used old machine, consume more petroleum, so the price is more expensive than regular/modern transportation.
Because u nice person I subscribe ur channel Sir , wellcome to my country hope u enjoying ur exploring.
What a fun first day in Jakarta!
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺. Love your videos. So positive and fun. Thankyou
Welcome to Indonesia! We wish you a great time here.

Welcome to Jakarta Ken, have a safe trip and enjoy your time in Indonesia. Don't forget to visit Bandung and Yogyakarta. The public transport in Java is very good and cheap. Gute Reise 🇮🇩😎
Thank you 😊
Weather in Bandung kinda good now. Jakarta is scorching hot past few weeks.
Ken, I think if you look up the word "gemuetlich" in a German dictionary you will find a picture of you there! Love your videos!😊
Hehe thanks 🙏😊
You will find many german words in Bahasa Indonesia. I believe they come from the Dutch, such as beton, reklame, gratis, foto, strom, tante, bensin (benzin), aula, lampu (lampe), besuk (besuch), stempel, handuk (Handtuch), usw.......viel Spass in Jakarta 😊
Yeah I noticed quite a few words here already that are the same or very similar in german😅
Mantap. Satu lagi: “rokok” (German: rauchen, Dutch: rook)🚬
dokter, kulkas
English - Clutch (automobile)
Indonesia - Kopling
German - Kopplung
Es sum sim is very nice , one of our favorite !! You choose great one !!!
