      Thanks Bob, glad you enjoyed it. I have a good time showing what a shopsmith can do.

    I liked the camera shot with dust being evacuated. I was wondering how it was working and read the response you gave to Andy Milligan. Good video.

    Had a bunch of mahogany trim that this would've been useful for. Should've remembered, but had the planer on the brain. Good video!

      Thanks Ed. In hind sight I would have used a thickness planer for the first pass then the sanding drum.

    That looks like a useful technique. I hope I can remember it when the situation comes up where I can employ it.

      Same. Remembering what to do and what not to do is half the battle.

    Thanks for the video. I like getting away from the cylindrical sanding sleeves as they are a storage nightmare.

    I like your process of getting new sheets of sand paper. Changing the sandpaper is the one thing I really don't care for. I also use the drill chuck to attach mine.

      Thanks. Agree on changing the paper. I’m finally getting the knack for changing the sandpaper. Paper backed falls apart too quickly, some 3x6 belts are too thick. The cloth back roll is just right.

    Thanks for the great video Tom! I like the idea of the HF drum sander and abrasives.

    Yesterday I tried this out and it worked well. I don't have the micro adjust stop collar and that would've been nice to have in order to really be able to control the process. One observation is to be really careful because there is an in-running nip on the backside of the drum that you really need to be careful of. If it caught loose clothing or a finger it would be merciless.

      Great glad it worked out! Also, great safety tip as we often use these drum sanding attachments with no guards.

    You showed the dust collection but made no comment about how effective it was. It didn't look that efficient to me. How did it do with the most dangerous woodshop dust?

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Рік тому +2

      Thanks Andy! I agree air borne dust is a serious issue. The dust collection was awesome in my opinion. I have other videos covering dust collection and this collector specifically. I've upgraded the hood to a 42 inch rated at 1 micron. I get about 400 cfm of flow at the end of the 10 foot hose. I also run an ambient air cleaner.

    Great adaptation Are you feeding against the spin direction? To would seem like I could use the main table from the shopsmith.

      Thanks Dave. Yes I am feeding from the back side and since from underneath that’s against rotation. On the full shopsmith it would be better to use the main table.

    I have worked on my bandsaw but it drifts so much I cannot cut thin boards on it!

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Рік тому

      Larry, mine has drift too. I assume you have tuned the fence to match the angle of the drift? I used to get a lot of bowed cuts too, until I switched to the Timber Wolf re-saw blade.

      Yep, good sharp blades like Timber Wolf & correct tension for the blade size & good new cooling blocks.

    Okay that's super interesting. I'm always amazed at the processes I would have never thought of without seeing someone else do them. 😎
    Have you had any issues with the table scratching up the back side as you feed the pieces through?

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Рік тому +3

      Tim, there is a risk of scratching the lumber, even in normal table saw operations. I regularly check for burrs and keep wax on the table so things run smoothly.
