    Basically people talking about a band they know nothing about because they want clicks and want to push their opinions. Someone should teach them what Eminem once said, "The funny thing about opinions is that they don't matter."

    Oh btw, I understand where that comment abt idol is coming from, but you should really check out "idol explained" bc there's so much more thought into everything in that MV that meets the eye. Xceleste has a video on it and so does DKDKTV. Thanks for reacting to this one so quickly, I had already heard abt this podcast dumbster fire and when I saw the title and thumbnail from boracity's premiere I was like "oooh she's abt to cook those podcast kpop 'experts' lmao" Borahae 💜

      Well he did say they were "poking fun" at that concept of throwing random things because that's what haters were saying about their MV's (which is ridiculous to be frank) and they were being a bit ironic or satirical with that MV visually speaking even tho we know everything meant something. And John did watch an explained by DKDKTV on Idol. Sadly there are reactors that don't take the time or advice to do that and don't get that the mv is crazy cuz they are kinda poking fun at over the top kpop mv's. I watched one where they literally laughed through out the MV despite watching all their MV's before that knowing that it's not the norm for BTS MV's to be cgi over the top fests so it didn't click for them that that was the whole point BTS were making with the mv (and more of course)

      He should also watch the old video essay from ByStorm. It goes into detail about the traditional instruments, dance, and cultural philosophy. He comes to a conclusion that is just lovely - solidifying the BTSxARMY connection with a concept that is thousands of years old. I'll look for a link.

    I always watch Boracity's videos when they first come out. She's savage in this one. I love it. IDOL was BTS making a point with their music video. They used over the top everything, but it all had meaning, and it was a message to their haters. The explanation video explained it well.

    Thank you for this reaction John and bravo Boracity! It was so entertaining watching her shine a light on the ignorant, misinformed and just plain spiteful and silly comments by this podcaster and guest and totally demolish their assertions. I didn't know K-pop even existed because I was listening to rock and pop greats (Beatles, Moody Blues, Bowie, Queen etc). I was hooked on BTS when I heard their version of "Fix You", so no, I didn't know k-pop. I just knew BTS and that they're Koreans. And I just love how they transcended language and genre as their creativity evolved. I thought that the guest was just trying to belittle BTS because of her xenophobia (you know, the only good Asian is a poor, struggling Asian?) Boracity's concluding statement is right on the nose and good on her for not pulling her punches!

  • @Jimins_Minion
    @Jimins_Minion 3 місяці тому +25

    Thank you so much for expressing your feelings - which mirrors mine exactly. I find her very petty and bitter. Your comparison between her and how siblings lose interest when a young sibling likes the same music is spot on. I don’t understand why she was a guest because there was no added information or professionalism from her. It was all her opinions masquerading as fact. And her saying Jk’s album is not Kpop - I mean… yes??? Is she mad than a kpop artist broke down walls and entered mainstream when BBang did not? So Taylor Swift should have remained a country singer? And how about Beyoncé now doing country? And honestly, I never EVER heard or listened to Kpop until I accidentally saw BTS and became obsessed. I tried listening to other KPop groups to see if I’ve been missing out on other bands, but they realized I only like BTS. Whatever label you may want to put on them… nothing will change that I like BTS - no matter their hair color, the genre, the language, etc. They always make amazing music which is rare in artists. Remember those vinyls you had to buy but really only like one song? I’m grateful that BTS albums don’t have “skip” songs.

    • @roguechevelle
      @roguechevelle 3 місяці тому +1

      Same. I tried listening to other groups and I very occasionally like a song but no other group clicked for me. An issue too is that ever since 2017 (and even before then) other companies have studied BTS and started doing things in attempt to match there success but most took the wrong lessons from it. They would copy the style or sound or a phrase even (like love yourself or love myself) in hopes they would make their groups successful but at the same time doing everything in their power to diminish BTS or tear them down (which is silly cuz they've been their meal ticket so to speak so why try to get rid of the one who makes the trends you follow? it doesn't make much sense). I don't understand who many kpop fans like the guest don't seem to want kpop to be mainstream but also want their favs to go mainstream by desperately wanting them to be recognized by the west by re-writing history like make your minds up. Nobody is denying that no other kpop group didn't try to break in to the western market before or that they didn't have some amount of success in a way but no one has smashed through like BTS has but they did so never changing who they are and have been, they have always branched out trying new sounds but they still do songs rooted in their core hip hop sound too.

But, as an Army I don’t give them any credit, because regardless, I love them as Artists and great human beings. Okay, so they wanted someone who is an “expert” on kpop, but a known critic of BTS on their podcast to talk about BTS, fair enough. I’m sure that there are people who feel that way. But they should have also had a Kpop “expert” who was a fan of BTS on at the same time so that there could be some kind of balance to this discussion. Because as is, you are only hearing one side of the argument that is being presented as facts given by an “expert.” Which is actually just belittling and downplaying BTS’s achievements without anyone to defend them or give ARMYs point of view, because there are tens of millions of ARMYs out there and are these people on the New York Times podcast trying to tell us that we’re all delusional and have bad taste in music?

    • @roguechevelle
      @roguechevelle 3 місяці тому +5

      The problem too is their "expert" doesn't exactly have any real credentials other then being twitter stan/ blogger that barely has anyone read their articles. There are journalists that have been writing for "reputable" publications for several years and that actually have interviewed kpop groups in person, mind you there is still those with extreme biases there and clearly don't like BTS but they have more credentials then this person has. There's even professor's and academics that have studied the subject of kpop, given lectures or written published papers that I think are more qualified then this person.

    I’m almost 70 and am so thankful that I love almost all music. Of course there are some things I don’t like, but I love Pop, R & B, Jazz, etc. I have heard A LOT of BTS songs and so far there is not even one song I don’t like… even the raps. I didn’t like rap before BTS, and actually BTS is about the only rap I like. I don’t like it when people think they are too sophisticated and above things like Pop. If someone doesn’t like it, that is fine, but don’t act as though it is beneath.
    Do these people not realize how racist it sounds to say you’d rather hear the next Justin Beiber try to sing a Korean song than to hear Jung Kook sing an English song… or that there is basically no place for JK to sing English songs because they already have JT. There are LOTS of pop artists and I guess only JK shouldn’t be allowed to.

    Moral of the story bts exist people hate cause the group they stan can’t compete, it’s not a drag it’s true. Every group has their own success, no one should be compare to anyone and just be proud of their groups journey and achievements. I only like bts but I get really excited when I see groups do well, but I see a lot of the groups fandoms start comparing to bts or black pink.. you don’t need to hate .. don’t need to compare just be proud. There is no next Beatles, no next bts, no next black pink, no next stray kids, not next Justin Timberlake, no next Michael Jackson. They are the next them and hating on any group just is weird especially when majority of these guys are fans of each other and look up to each other. 💜 Side note though I hate when people just hate on a song cause it doesn’t have this deep rooted meaning… let people make music they like 😭 and with jungkooks album “theirs no K-pop in this album” that’s the point he made a pop album. MORAL OF MY RANT be proud of your group without dragging others down and bts will never be confined into just K-pop, they are also hip hop artist, rappers, pop stars, r&b artist ect and your hate towards them won’t change it.

    Well is not BTS fault if they keep put them in the kpop category even when they release pop music or japanese pop music. They are not thinking about the "k" in pop when they create their music. They could realese spanish music and the industry still will name it a kpop song just bc. They want to be free to realese everything they want like every other artists in this world. American artists can't relay bc they don't want to sing in other languages unless are mixed nationality. As a non american all this talk leaves me perplexed. Italian artists sing in english or spanish when they want to promote themselves outside Italy and no one making such a fuss about it. There is almost a collective obsession with categorizing kpop.

      This is an issue we've been having for a long while now, the western music industry is now using the label k-pop to other Korean or Asian artists and keep them in a box away from their artists. It's become a tool they can use to exclude them from main categories against western artists. Every major American Music Awards (except the Grammy's) now has a kpop category and just like BB pulled in 2023 with nominating BTS members to only kpop categories I suspect AMA will do the same in 2024 (the AMA actually skipped 2023 entirely).

    The most stupid thing that podcast girl told was that BH wanted to replace BTS with TXT. So a company that only has 1 group at all, would as a business consider to replace the biggest group in the world with a new group, that noone knows yet, and that a way different style? Like make it make sense.
    Not that TXT was in the making for years, because no company should rely on just 1 artist to make them money, one stupid accident or else and it could be over. And also, TXT is successful in their ways as a Kpop group, one of the 2 leading boygrous of 4th gen, which would also be further down their career if illnesses shortly before their 1st comeback and then Corona didn't cut them off from live concerts and collecting experience. They were never intended to be another BTS, Bang PD is too smart to actually think that way, he like us fans and TXT themselves know, that BTS is an absolute outlier, a one in some decades kind of artist. Noone in their circle talks about another BTS, it's always those from the outside constantly yapping about that.

I was Big Bang fan in 2012-2013, I loved CN Blue, Shinee, DBSK and more, and I am still listening their music. The relation with BB was complicated, can't be reduced like this and I don't think now BB members think the same as some are saying. Competition is normal in this field and dirty games are there too. BB, DBSK, Shinee, FT Island, CN Blue and others were good, their music is still good. BTS is better. If a really good new rock band comes out now and breaks records, it means I won't listen to Scorpions, or AC&DC, or Bon Jovi, or Guns & Roses, or...... ?

    Hello

  • @robwebnoid5763
    @robwebnoid5763 3 місяці тому

    I have said this time & time again ... KPop, its style & sound, was never inherently Korean. It is western musical construct this whole time, 3 decades of it. In fact, it is more than 3 decades, it is rather at least 15 decades, in the grander scheme & scale. Yes, 15 decades. Maybe even 20 decades. So when BTS starts singing in full English & continuing to make music in 12TET, et al, that means they are paving the way back to the origin of KPop, which is the United States & western culture. That is one reason why KPop, & specifically BTS (but also BigBang, BlackPink, etc), resonates with global fans, is because the world had also been inadvertently forced & subjected upon western constructed music.
