They looked pretty happy but not near as happy as they were selling off the hoard for $85,000.00. Pretty good return on a couple thousand dollar investment. Thanks for watching. JC.
Pretty sad that is sat for as long as it did and all it took was a little fuel line, some TLC and someone to care enough to get it back on the road. You'd be amazed at how many of these we find that need very little to get them fired up and back on the road. Thanks for watching. JC.
so fucking rad! i just bought my 1974 bay window around June for 800$ . 12 year dream finally coming true. next project hopefully a older split window.. but getting so expensive.. one day. fingers crossed. GREAT JOB! my buddy has a restored 65.. hopefully one day he will realize how bad i want it and sell it to me haha. im in VA so its hard to find a split window. unless i get lucky and pass by a rotted one in the woods of the owner. ive been searching nearby states though. fingers crossed i get one for cheap and i can ride home across the state line.
It was a pretty fun day. Went up to help pull them out of the barn but when the owner kept dragging his feet and just wanted to tell VW stories all day I figured we might as well do something constructive and get the old bus running. I made 3 trips in 2 weeks up to that place for a grand total of nearly 3000 miles and 80 hours spent. This almost made it worth it. JC.
It sure was. Too bad it ended the way it did. I bet you figured you would have at least got a phone call telling you the buses were on their way to Arizona. Better hurry and step up on that Surf Board before its too late. JC.
"Mango" is it? The SoCals have such great imaginations. I have the same color in a 71 bus and I have repainted the lower paint in Old School Bus Yellow (or Old Tractor Yellow/ Old Safety Yellow). It is very much the same color although a slight difference. I wonder if they changed the oil as part of their preparation. Otherwise I can't believe the drove it so far.
Nice work and compassion for them. Will they keep that one now that they have ridden it again? She sure looked happy and might be hard for her to let it go? What about all the others? Will you be getting one or more?
After stringing us along for several weeks the owner sold them to another guy out of Arizona. We had agreed to his original ask price but after a bunch of people started to really show interest in them the owner got greedy and decided he needed $85,000.00 for the lot. Too much money for what he had IMO. We didn't even get a phone call back to let us know he'd sold them to someone else. Found out about it on a Reddit post. I guess it wasn't really that hard for them to let them go after all. Thanks for watching. JC.
It simply stalled. Idle adjustment low rpms...tough to gauge clutch with old brakes dragging, first time moving in 2o+ years, excitement of owner...OLD fuel from OLD tank. Once fresh cleaned runs through NEW filter, OLD stuff comes through lines that they replaced too. Volkswagons seem to be a LOCK, as far as time, $ invested, to LEARN restoration on. Parts are out there. My nephew's FIRST resto, (unknown invested, even in hulk), he recently sold for 30 grand. (So he bought a great OLD bug, that was DONE.) Have fun.
i love the early buses becausse they have nicer i dont know how its in english (that above the lights), thinner trunk, smaller lights and what about that karmann ghia? i love the buses but my favourite is the beetle. we have one vw 1200j from 1975 and engine really is reliable im 12 yrs old and im big fan:)
Goddamn is that a thing of beauty or what!!!, this coming from a proud owner of a 1963 Kombi here in Port Townsend, Washington that I've had since picking "PimpWagen" (as I christened her) up for a mere $1.200.00 back in 2002, as the owner had to sell it as he was having a second kid and needed the money. He was originally asking for $1,500 but she needed some work so I talked him down to $1,200. I'm more than glad to still own her after all these years!!! She gets equal action time as my 1999 VW New Beetle GLS!!! But you guys were right, as split buses are becoming especially tough to obtain, like you said in the first part of this somewhat 3-part segment at ua-cam.com/video/0_5SVgREuYY/v-deo.html, they are indeed made out of what you call "Unobtainium for The Average Joe" nowadays, so I'm glad I own her and will die with (if not die before) her as well!!!
Glad you were able to find one for such a good deal Joe. The owner of these buses went a little sideways on us after we had agreed to his original ask price. He decided the price of his Unobtainium was closer to $85,000.00 and I just couldn't justify that kind of money. Kind of takes the fun out of it when you have to pay that kind of $$$ for these old buses. Somebody paid stupid money to get the bragging rights of dragging these things home. Thanks for watching. JC.
You bet! :) Thanks, I broke her out today, after putting her in the garage for a few days to protect her from the rain and strong winds we've had in this storm that we've had here in the Northwest on this side of the Cascades for the past few days. She runs great as always. BTW, it's Ray although I am (technically) an "average Joe", but it's cool you wrote me back, thanks, Ray Jackson.
New fuel lines, cleaned the carb and it fired right up. Not sure why it was parked and neglected for so many years. At least now it is on its way to being back on the road and loved by someone. Thanks for watching. JC.

We didn't replace them. Went for a very short drive to the end of the lane and back. I don't think we even got out of second gear. Thanks for watching. JC.
great video
and Susan's reaction...priceless
and that setting / backdrop.... stunning!
I said to myself....what a mistake to start it up when not yet yours....you opened their eyes ...
Cracked me up when the guy started it and his wife said " stuff's comin out the tail pipe, Hon" and his response was "It's suppose to!"
Keep those beautiful split window buses alive. Forever classic vehicles.
They are pretty cool vehicles. Thanks for watching. JC.
Boy did you make two people happy!! Thanks for sharing!
They looked pretty happy but not near as happy as they were selling off the hoard for $85,000.00. Pretty good return on a couple thousand dollar investment. Thanks for watching. JC.

Montana's landscape seen from an old vw bus is amazing!

@Shepard Madden I would suggest Flixzone. You can find it by googling =)

Just bought me a all original 1969 bus for 1800 off of Craigslist. It had sat in a concrete floor garage since 1987.

These vans are soooo pretty! Wonderful design.
Beautiful, i love this busses unbelievable that the engine works after al these years!! German quality!

Engines that sit long periods of time need to have the spark plugs removed and oil squirt into the Cylinders before its cranked.
Thanks for sharing...

Why did it shake at 4:36? (I'm only a teen watching this I don't really know about cars and buses yet)

Doug Smith what a shame...
What is the name of this bus? westfalia mango bus?
Nice! Did it take much to get it going?
New fuel lines, cleaned the carb and it fired right up. Not sure why it was parked and neglected for so many years. At least now it is on its way to being back on the road and loved by someone. Thanks for watching. JC.
Volkswear Sweet! Good to hear and you're welcome!
did they sell all the volkswagens ? if so who bought them ?

Volkswear they treated you like that after doing all that for them. Well out of order imo. Some people are very greedy, I suppose that's life.
MarcusTDM money talks.
Sad ending for you guys. Greed... :(
Volkswear man so close you could taste it. This would be a heartbreaker for me
