Did everyone hear Raphael say, "Stowe Missal"???? The first comment complaining about the Roman rite or the Sarum rite will win a free copy of Fr. Michael Wood's "Liturgy of Saint John the Divine" courtesy of yours truly. You will be expected to read it, especially the introduction, before making anymore comments. You don't have to stay ignorant, but if you do, that's just stupid. I should be sending that money to help Raphael, who's actually doing something for the kingdom of God, even though he's fighting for his legitimate disability case right now. The provision, before I send you Fr. Michael Wood's "Liturgy of Saint John the Divine" You will need to post a UA-cam video on what Christ meant when He said, "The poor you will always have with you." And since we're going West, you'll also have to tie that to what Saint Ambrose of Milan meant when he said, "There stands your brother naked and crying while you concern yourself with a choice of floor covering."
😂 the sinful urge to complain about Sarum rite to receive free copy of the liturgy but knowing I love the western rite(though I’m eastern rite). Better that it go to an actual complainer 😂
I have a copy of the Liturgy, it's absolutely beautiful. Quite stripped down compared to the Liturgy of John Chrysostom in some ways, less for the choir to do. I really hope it gains more popularity here in the UK, I think it would be great for it to be used as the standard Rite here one day. I am actually thinking about trying to get a group of Orthodox together here in the UK to start writings letters to our Hierarchs asking for this version of the Western Rite to be nurtured here. I think it is the most appropriate of all the Western Liturgies for Orthodox use in the UK.
@@SaintGeorge7 You know, I had you in mind when I wrote this. Actually arguing it out with someone who is really going to be open about it would be good for me too. 😀🙏🏻 I do want people to read and pray these books that Fr. Wood has worked on so lovingly for God. I know people, like myself, who come to Orthodoxy wanting the right way to worship God, and what we are finding is that there is right and wrong, and then there's Rite. As Saint Skobtsova talks about, it's not incantation. The concept of Hocus Pocus is believed to be a perversion of the Latin blessing from the Catholic mass, Hoc est corpus meum, or “This is my body.” I'm always knocking psychology in the West, because we have allowed it to replace real Spirituality and Religion, which means binding ourselves to these Spiritual practices for change, which psychology does not predict. Psychology is for those in society at large, who deny spirituality based on materialism. Every divine liturgy is a Theophany for us as believers. I know my own recently retired Bishop Essay has gone through a lot for the Western Rite and I urge anyone who wants to know more to look up these videos on UA-cam. Or if you are a madman for Christ like I am, you can bicycle across country to Ladyminister monastery Cañon City Colorado and live the Western Rite. It's implementation of the Rite in our life that saves us.
Thanks for this! I'm not huge into Western Rite on a personal practice level, but I think it's really important to uplifting the "fullness of faith" idea that we always stake out in Orthodoxy! As we build an intentional Orthodox community out here in the wilds of Ohio, I'm trying to build in aspects of our shared practice that reach out to the more western - minded people (and church-unfamiliar folks) we hope to host as guests. I can see this being a great bridge-builder - - along with St. Nicholas & St. Patrick! Christ came for everyone, everywhere, at all times! Thank you for affirming this reality through your frequent dips into Western Rite, etc.!
If there were more parishes serving the Gallican Rite in particular, I’d certainly give it a chance given my heritage connection to it ! Not to mention, the New Orleans French Catholics who comprise half my family would go for it, and bring that much more spiritual fervor to Orthodoxy Part of me feels there’s something inimitably mystical about Eastern chanting though
As a convert to Catholicism it is, at times, arresting the profundity of how the western rite developed while separated from the east. Like, it's just arrestingly beautiful, conscious of the human condition, and certainly a means for bringing holiness to a soul. The ancient prayers, the liturgical cycle, the use of Latin, Gregorian chant, the various supplementary disciplines added by various religious groups and regions of the faithful. It truly is a travesty how much of it has been neglected! Honestly, if the west today had as much reverence for tradition as the east, willing to defend uniquely western expressions, I don't think the schism would still be going on. Who knows.
I am a Bishop in Western Orthodoxy and recommend using the St. Gregory the Great Litany What a Blessing in the Western Rite, feel free to reach out to me.
What are the other prayers in there like? Is that discussed in the older video? I have that copy of the Liturgy of St. John the Divine on it's own, it's really interesting. I'd love to see it served, do any Western Rite parishes use it?
Everything being said about the Western Rite historicaly & culturly is right, but what No one is saying is that that existed when the Church in the West! The Church of Rome as a representative of the West per say doesn't exist any more, or for those who think that unity is possible (possible by the Grace of God, and will of man and the latter doesn't exist), then the reason for a different liturgy is void. Otherwise someone can go and say: well why not the WR & ER celebrate Pascha the same way they did in the 1st 3 centuries and it was acceptable! Guess what? A famous WR did (does?) Celebrate Pascha on the Gregorian calendar! We accept Orthodoxy, we accept every bit of it including the liturgical shape which unites us all. Although born in Orthodoxy I was brought up in protestantism & Catholicism.

Fun fact: this IS used in the UK. Look up the author, Fr Michael Wood.

I look forward to the Orthodox development of the Syriac Rite and Coptic Rite. I personally would love a Syriac Rite.

Wow 👌 awesome mini documentary man
Thank you!
The Amazon desctiption says it has the hours (breviary) in it, which, if I recall, the previous edition lacked. Is that so?
Ci, señor
The Chieti and Alexandria documents brought me here.
Wise words. You’ve certainly piqued my interest in the Western Rite

How can I reach you?
Thank you. Live in Western Europe. I am greatly interested in Western rite Orthodoxy.
I'm surprised that you didn't show the insides of the Coleman Prayer Book. Just Saying.
Western rite is amazing, but sometimes parishes are too Catholic, using sacred heart is horrible and heretical

I am looking at two different spellings of Colman in one view.

You may end up having to get a disability lawyer. Find one that specializes and that does not get paid unless you win.
That's all of them lol. They won't intercede here in NC until you've been denied. All part of the game.
@@OrthodoxReview It is a game for sure. My wife won her case. Hang in there.
So much effort to avoid truly studying traditional Catholicism
Since which reformation?
