For me this is the definitive version of the song. It's melancholic and a bit sad, but hopeful and cheery at the same time. It makes me feel like it's ok to keep trying, even if you fail. That everything will be alright.
I always wondered how is this not the official version of Try, Try, Try. It has the sound that can make someone reminisce long forgotten memories, and then cry in the process.
pop tart, whats the matter did you lose what youre after? for your tears im still singing for your fears, i am ringing from houston on a downer buzz like you said, Its just because you'll detonate your long lost kisses wished on the eve of forgotten blessings so start your way for a new impression that try to hold on to this heart a little bit stronger try to hold on try with this love aloud try to hold on for this heart has never been broken try to hold on try to hold on pop tart, did you flatter when they spoke of my disasters at 13, i lost my compass but im sure, its all accomplished as my desires on my ghost trains like you said when it rains its pours down the back of the bitter son desperate for love and loves everyone in my mothers arms, no simple harm conspires to hold on to this heart a little bit closer try to hold on to this love aloud try to hold on and we know if we go under we just can't let go no, no pop tart, will it matter? if I lose and just shatter will you cry, and keep crying will I die, and keep dying in tokyo, the sad tragic blues like you said, its how you use 'cause someday we'll know if this even matters our rings and maze and simplicity when can we laugh and take all the credit and know we'll go free with our hearts a little bit stronger try to hold on for this love aloud try to hold for this hearts a little bit frightened just try to hold on just try to hold on just try
If someone asked me what song captures the sound of the smashing pumpkins in one song I'd have to say this one it's like a perfect blend of the upbeat quality of sisamise dream with the dark messages and tons of the melancholy period really for being considered a b side it is the one song I would have someone listen to too get a feel for there music and it holds a place in my heart where I was always down but looking up I feel that is what this version of the song is being down but looking up
This was only version i knew cause i downloaded covers or alt versions of songs so its funny that this song sounds so reminiscent and nostalgic for some cause this is the version that accompanied my memories
I remember discovering this version of the song as a 16 year old in December and feeling so new I’m 23 now and wish I took better care of myself I feel old lol
I think it implies distance between Billy and the person he’s singing to. He started feeling something for this person he’s far away from while he’s in Houston “on a downer buzz”, and even though they’re so far away and he maybe hasn’t seen them in a while he’s “still singing” for them. It’s a relatable notion and a fine lyric.

superior version
Agreed! I never disliked this song, but I can't listen to the original anymore after this!
How is this the alternate? One of if not my favorite Pumpkins songs. Can’t listen to the original, it’s missing something. It’s missing this
It’s good. But, the album version kinda spoiled me. Much more polished and emotionally charged.
neeeeeveer, but excelent version
I never listen to the original anymore

The official already does that for me, personally
I agree this is sounds better, but the album version is more "radio friendly" and over produced.
It’s tough, they both have such excellent lyrics and qualities about them!
InstaBlaster
Billy must’ve said no, we’re better than this😆
“Pop tart, did you flatter, when they spoke of my disasters” awesome
Just stumbelined across this.. soo good, greatful to be a pumpkins fan. too many hidden gems.
Underrated comment.
When it rains it pours down the back of a bitter sun, desperate for love and loves everyone
pop tart, whats the matter
did you lose what youre after?
for your tears im still singing
for your fears, i am ringing
from houston on a downer buzz
like you said, Its just because
you'll detonate your long lost kisses
wished on the eve of forgotten blessings
so start your way for a new impression
that try to hold on
to this heart a little bit stronger
try to hold on
try with this love aloud
try to hold on
for this heart has never been broken
try to hold on
try to hold on
pop tart, did you flatter
when they spoke of my disasters
at 13, i lost my compass
but im sure, its all accomplished
as my desires on my ghost trains
like you said when it rains
its pours down the back of the bitter son
desperate for love and loves everyone
in my mothers arms, no simple harm
conspires to hold on
to this heart
a little bit closer
try to hold on
to this love aloud
try to hold on
and we know
if we go under
we just can't let go
no, no
pop tart, will it matter?
if I lose and just shatter
will you cry, and keep crying
will I die, and keep dying
in tokyo, the sad tragic blues
like you said, its how you use
'cause someday we'll know if this even matters
our rings and maze and simplicity
when can we laugh and take all the credit
and know we'll go free
with our hearts a little bit stronger
try to hold on
for this love aloud
try to hold
for this hearts a little bit frightened
just try to hold on
just try to hold on
just try
What a beautiful song, so much better than the album version!
This song just makes me lose it. God
Coool!!🤘🏼✨🤍🤍🤍

Been looking for this version. Much better!
shoulda been the Machina I version. this is not an alternate, its infininately better than its overproduced counterpart.
As desires run my ghost trains...
That line alone is why this version is better.
SP is pure poetry 😌❤️

I feel old lol
You're still so young, just a kid still. I'm 36, believe me. You're so young, don't lose hope. The world is yours right now.
I am 19
Incredible song.
Lovely
The original is a masterpiece, but this version has something special.
This was the only version I knew growing up.

Much better than the original

holsht😭
is there any way to make this an instrumental?
Is this on Spotify?
Alternative version hmm... Some of the lyrics are good some awful like "from Huston" wtf is up with that line?

guess im the only one that disagrees. original feels like it has more soul imo. original is better 😖
